    So...LET'S SWAP SOME BRIGHT F8's

They will work for several summer quilts posted in Transcriber8 post on flip flop quilts; and for some other summer type patterns in the LQS this year.

    Here's how we'll do it:

BRIGHTS are just that...BRIGHT!!...You should need sun-glasses! They can be geometric, stripes, tone-on-tone, floral or whimsical. Please no holiday prints...the intent is to use these in a 'summer-time' related quilt...

    1. We will be swapping 100% cotton fabric that is LQS quality. If you don't know what that means, please, don't sign up (not trying to be mean, it's just that simple).

    2. We will be swapping sets of 8 Fat-Eights since you can get that from 1 yard of fabric. They do not have to all match to be a set, just don't send more than 8 of any one fabric.

    3. Wash the fabric first...I advise you do it before cutting...

    4. A fat-eighth is half of a fat-quarter and measures about 18 x 11 (can also be cut from half-yard pieces)...(not 9 x 20 as some sites indicate...)

    5. Send in as many sets as you'd like to receive back. Limit: 10 per person (unless we get more than 10 swappers, then we'll go to a limit of 15).

    5. Put your sets in a Ziploc-type baggie, no need to seperate the sets out. Enclose a card with your name and address on one side and mine on the other. (In case your package should get torn in the mail.)

    6. Enclose enough postage to send your swapped sets back to you.

    7. PM me with your name, hgtv name, phone number and email address to join...and I will send you back my mailing address, phone, and email.

    8. MAILING DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY, 28 MAY 2008.

    Here are the participants:

    1. SHAWKL
    2. Brinnsmom
    3. Quiltingnewbie

And...thanks to Paus4Quilts for this link to a free flip-flop and bathing suit pillow...which could be used to make a larger quilt.

    Great for Brights!

    Sorry for being remedial, but a fat eighth is 9 X 11? I thought it was 9 X 22 or maybe 11 X 18, but I don't work with them much.

I'm very interested in the swap, but will be cutting my own and want to make sure I have the right dimensions.

Also, are batiks okay? Bright batiks, of course.

    Thanks.

    Smile

Transcriber8, send Kathy a PM in order to join. If you read Step 7, you'll see what she wants to know in order to sign you up. As I'm sure you've figured out, we're a little picky here about our swaps. The hostesses generally create a set of rules and ask that you adhere to them.

To send a PM, left click on her name (above that precious picture) and select "send SHAWKL a Private Message". A new window will open up where you can type all of the required information.

Just posting this reference for two different ways to cut F8ths.

Will look in my stash and see if I should join. I love brights, but am trying to control myself on joining new swaps Roll Eyes . We'll see how long I hold out!

I appreciate all the thoughtful folks on making sure we get the sizes of the FAT F8 correctly...and yes, technically we could go with an half of a fat quarter (11 x 18 about)...or half of a 1/4 yard strip (9 x 22).

Personally, I think we have more flexibility with the 11 x 18...which is why we have that size in the rules...but, I will certainly bend to the likes of the group as a whole. So, if you'd prefer that we go with 9 x 22...then please voice your opinion...thanks Smile

    Transcriber8...would love to have you!

If you would put your cursor over the face of my name...and LEFT click...you will see a pull-down menu...select to invite me to a Private Message...and provide me your name, address, e-mail, and phone.

My rule is...if I'm going to send you mine...you should send me yours...one, so if I have any questions or information I can reach you. And, if you have any for me about the swap, you can reach me.

    Smile

p.s. You have a PM from me...from this morning...you can read your private messages on this board by scrolling to the top...and selecting the little "flag" that should be flashing next to the message board tool bar.

    Kathy

I prefer the 11 X 18 size. That way, I could use the fabric for a finished 10" background square if I wanted to and have scraps leftover for whatever. But if the group consensus is otherwise, well, it's all good.

Novelty is okay; just no holiday themed. They might not work for flip-flop; but will work in so many other bright quilts they are not limiting like the holidays are. Smile

    Shawkl,
Sent you my info via PM. Can I be included in this swap too please?

(my 2 cents worth).....I prefer 11X 18 pieces. That is what I will send. Though I am not sure haw many sets I plan to commit to just yet.
