Here are my twosies ready for 4-patches...didn't think I'd ever get all these cut nor that it would take me so long,of course I had to nap after all my shopping at Joanns the last 2 days.I'd still be cutting if it weren't for my Shape Cut...

I have all my "twosies" done and 20 4 patches finished, hopefully I can sew tomorrow.

I have been cutting my strips and pairing them up.

Went through my scrap box and found many individual odd B/W pieces I could use so it is taking time to cut each one and pair up . But I think that will be fun cause it gives me a variety of squares.

Hope to sew tomorrow and at least get started.

I get so antsy cause I want to finish them all in one day LOL

I have all my 4 patches done, tomorrow I'll check each one to make sure they are all consistent in size and no wonky seams. I have them all ironed too...picture tomorrow I'm too tired tonight.

Whoah! That looks like a thousand of them...at least a couple hundred! How does she (and you) do all of these parts so fast!!! No wonder you're tired!

May - Which shape cutter are you using? Looking at all of those pieces makes one want some HELP!

So out of my color zone but this is going to be fun!
This is what I came up with. When I went to Joanns Friday a lady next to me asked about the paint cards and why I had them. I mentioned about the Mystery Quilt and she mentioned she was an artist at a local gallery. She was helping her friend pick out fabrics to make quilts for Xmas.

She looked at what I had picked out so far and she was sooo helpful, eliminated several and told me why. Then she added some and the change was noticed immediately.

So my strips are cut and today I sew 4-patches!

Carry on "East Street" quiltzillas!

I'm going to be in the "print it out for later" camp as I have way too many UFOs to finish... but I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of following along vicariously online! I love the suggested colors but it is also fun to see the alternate choices made and it will be exciting to see them all come together over the next weeks. Carry on!

texana...great colors,terrific you got such great talent to help choose you...I'm not using those colors...I'm waiting to decide which I'll use until the next Step is posted. I love the teal,greens together not sure I want the purple and I don't have that much purple.I want to use my stash without buying fabric so today I'll pull some other color choices and wait and see which I will use.

May I like how you kept your 4-patches constant, that is what I would do also.
But for this quilt I decided to go rogue, pulled what I had then got some more for variety.
The green and purple is so not me, I am more Civil War colors but I just may have a new DIL soon and she is a graphic artist. After I bought the fabric she was over at my son's house and looked at the cards and fabric. She was excited, said she likes modern art. Soooo....shower gift maybe! woo hoo

OMG May! Thanks for the thump to the noggin LOL! I have had this cutter forever. I automatically assumed you were talking about something like accuquilt...

KC ... I had some fabric that had some red print on it but mostly B/W. think I could work some pieces in there for interest?

Congrats on getting them done. We were with the grandkids and just started sewing today.

I finished sewing my 4 patches today. Now to spin the seams and iron. can't wait to see what part 2 is. I used the colors Bonnie used... my grey is a little lighter as I am using what I had in stash.

Well I went digging through my stash and I do have purples but still not crazy about the color. So what other color goes with teal and green ???? and the black on white/grey patches.

I also found a stash of polka dots,hot pink ,lots of green and a soft yellow with the same dots on all hummm maybe it will be dots

lol, the only shape cutter I could find when Googling were the shape cutters used for scrapbooking. I am so happy to know that June Tailor calls it Shape Cutter because I have one. I have not used in it a while. Sometimes I use it when I am cutting fringe on fleece throws. Now where did I put this cutter? I must find it. I can see how it makes cutting go faster and easier after watching the video. Thanks for the heads up.

texana do you have any orange in your stash? That would go well with purple. In fact when Bonnie teaches another mystery class at the end of Dec. in Dallas she adds the color orange to the already mentioned tuquoise/aqua, green, purple, etc. The only difference is the background color will be creams/beige/tan. This I do not see but she knows better than me.....lol....

I am all excited to start as soon as I find the SHAPE CUTTER. Maybe I will have a "find it dream" during the night....lol One can only wish...

Susan ... did you get in on the classes in Plano? I had a friend sign up, we will go early Sunday morning and share a room at the Holiday Inn Express where Bonnie stays!

I am so excited to finally be able to take a class from her. I wish I could go to the retreat she and Mickey Depre are putting on next year.

All done with step 1. I'm only doing 1/2 the units, but I have a good excuse.... I'm making this for my first grandchild.

These are the colors DD has picked out - with my addition of brown for the background because I just dont have a lot of neutrals or B/W's.

I finally, earlier today, printed off step 1 for this project.... have not started it yet!

Love what you all have done so far!!! I love to see what other fabrics people choose to do these in. I was not sure about the chosen colour choices, but as I look at them, hmmmm, I think I like them. ??? I like the brightness, the happy feeling, but I do not have alot of them in my 'collection' as my GF calls a her stash!!

Texana, it was neat for you to have met someone who ended up helping you with your fabric choices and then telling you why she changed some of them. It is nice when you meet the right person at the right time and that is what happened to you!! I love your picture of what you purchased!! See! Bright and happy!!!

Now to go figure out if I start this now, or wait..... I have it printed so, at least there I am ready to make this mystery!!!!!

I don't see why using a bit of color in your b & w four-patches will hurt! I had a lot of lime green with b on white and if I used her apple green suggestion I would have used it.

Can't wait to see everyone's color combinations!

I hope we will need more 2" strips of the black-on-white (creams in my case) for one of the steps later. I got carried away and cut too many!!! LOL If not, I'm sure I'll find a use for them in another project.

WooHoo! My four patches are finished!

My guild is going on a shopping trip next week and I thought I would be looking for more FQs for Easy Street. But I pulled out what I have of the colors I plan to use and realize that I will have plenty. Of course, if I see something in these colors that shouts "take me home", I'll add to these.

Bonnie's limey greens will be replaced with my darker greens, her turquoise/aqua will be my blues, and her purples will be my reds. I thought that keeping things sort of in the same color family would make it easier for me to remember what goes where.

I am enrolled in Bonnie's Mystery Class in Plano, TX over New Year's and she has really picked some wild colors, so unlike me! Hot Pink,Orange,Lime Green , Deep Purples wow! Thank goodness I have some of them in my stash for Easy Street!

Well I've narrowed it down to either the dark blue or the purple with the teals & green

but I made this mess while looking through stash then added recent buys from Joanns and the True Value Hardware(yes they have fabric) gonna' have to relocate that darn couch...

A hardware store with fabric--now that's my kinda store, lol!

and twice a year they have a 50% off sale on every stitch of fabric in the store...just like black Friday sales....they even serve refreshments while you are waiting in the cutting line...it is sooo cool to go there...oh and there is a bakery on the other end of the store...well worth the 45 minute drive there.

LOL this reminds me of way back when I made my first quilt. We lived in Western Kansas in a town called Greensburg, fyi the town was leveled by an F5 tornado several yrs back, and the fabric stores were in the back of the plumbing stores in the little towns all around.
I loved going in these places, everyone was so friendly.

I was very surprised to hear Bonnie say on quiltcam tonight that we won't be using any more of the grey (constant)unless we use it for binding or borders. The directions called for two yards. 40" of fabric will make 200 of the four patches. If all the fabric amounts are this "generous" that would explain the 14 yard total which some people were questioning. At this rate my stash will be growing by leaps and bounds!

I would imagine that her yardage figures are estimates due to pulling bits and pieces from our stash. I'm so happy to be pulling everything except the gray from my stash. I wonder how many "mystery" quilts I will have to make in my lifetime to use up all my fabrics!

Not too worry KC you seem to churn them out as fast as Bonnie thinks them up.....besides I never have the right color it seems no matter how big my stash grows...this time tho' mine is all from stash...

May, think of the satisfaction you will have to complete a whole quilt entirely from your own stash! If I only had another yard of that perfect gray print from my own stash I could claim the same!

I did see a really nice grey at Joanns Saturday...did not buy it...now I can not stop thinking about it...especially since looking through my new McCalls mag and seeing the most wonderful quilt in grey to light blue in it...I'll probably be back at Joanns tomorrow for that grey

Well call me crazy but I'm excited for the next clue tomorrow and I'm not even making the dang quilt!!! I love seeing everyone's colors and progress - and it's only going to get better right?

That McCalls pattern is stunning TcMay. I don't think I've ever had grey in my stash but just ordered a light grey Bella solid for a table topper neutral since I've seen so much of it around the net. It's grown on me.

last nite on Quilt cam Bonnie said that we are all done using the grey unless you end up wanting to use it in a border or something

Have my 4patches all done, actually yesterday. Don't have much in her color selection and not a lot here in the stores either. Guess I will start with 8 of each color and see how it goes. Depending on timing here...may just be doing printouts for later. It is exciting to see all your choices and progress! Joyce

Is it time for step 2 yet? I'm ready now! I'm leaving mid-morning tomorrow for a two day trip so won't be able to sew until Monday. My trip is to see DS, DDIL, and 3 DGKs perform in a production of "A Christmas Carol" so I really don't mind waiting to sew.

TcMay - i was going to order that kit on Cyber monday an they were already sold out! I was so bummed! That is a gorgeous quilt!

Yeah...I tried to order also but it was gone...I may try it since I have lots of greys and blues etc....after I get caught up....

The McCall's site now says the kit will be available towards the end of December. This is one pattern that paying for a kit would be worth it to get all of those pre-chosen fabrics.

As always, I am behind on getting this done. I am wondering, how much fabric did you have leftover from the gray?? I have cut my black on white strips, and started the gray. I just wanted to know how many strips did you cut of it? Tks,

I think I got a 2 1/2" yards, and I have about 32" left. Now that I have both steps complete, I will take the extra pieces leftover and make a mini quilt.

Blue Skies...I cut 19 WOF strips of each color for the 4 patches

I'm giggling reading this and Part 2 posts... I'm probably not making the full size quilt, I've been cutting the grey as I finish a strip, all my blk/whi are bits and pieces from other projetts (or KC swaps grin) ... have been sewing the twosies leader/ender between other projects due...I have a whopping 10 done!!!
