Hi all,

Have been a little behind here. This Friday we will start at 8 p.m. E.S.T.

It is a placemat class. I made these out of the COF FQ challenge fabric and I really like them. I will show you the picture of the 4 I made for Branson. I have to admit, after I came home, I was having company and the spare room is my sewing room and I was hiding and stuffing stuff everyone to get it out of the way and therefore, now cannot find the placemates.

So what you will need are 4 coordinating FQ's for the tops and 1 yard of backing fabric. We will be slicing and putting back together and you will have 4 placemates with different patterns.

Take the 4 FQ's, press them, lay them one on top of the other and trim them to all be the same size.

Here are the ones I made for Branson.

And here is when I laid them out to cut them all the same size. And there will be some variation here as all not FQ's are exacctly the same.

Truthfully, after if finished these, I was not as happy with them as I thouht I would be. The pale colors are not my favorite Chr*stmas colors and I am go0ing to make some in more traditional reds/greens.

A.Riba,

The challenge FQ was the leaf material. If you look at the top placemat, it is the material on the top and bottom on the left side. I just loved how they turned out and planned to use them for Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will if I can find where I stashed them.

I want to learn how to make these but I don't have a lot of coordinating fabrics in my stash...it's mainly just bits & pieces from left over projects or just fq's I've picked up over the years that I like. I'll see what I can find that might work.

My stash is so big I'm bound to find 4 that coordinate together.
I want to make these.
I've marked my kitchen calendar so I don't forget. Will hunt for fabric in the morning.
They look good.

I like your fabrics, quiltbea. I have some a lot like your backing fabric but not quite the same. I'm looking forward to making these. We don't use place mats but DH uses a kitchen towel when he sits at the kitchen bar & eats so these will replace those "grungy" kitchen towels. Wink

I was wondering the same thing as SueB only I need 8 placemats...

Unless I just make four and give them as a gift since it looks like StepD and family may be purchasing a new home and moving soon...

There is a similar pattern in the Quilter's World latest issue called "Stretched Nine-Patch Placemats" using nine coordinating fat quarters which makes six placemats.

If I'm going to try to do these, I better find some fat quarters tonight.

Good morning!

My mom, Fishingwidow, has had company this week so she wasn't able to get to the boards as much as she wanted. I will try to address a few of the questions.

Final size is approx 13 x 17,without borders/binding. It really depends on how big you cut your initial rectangles as the placemats will end up about 2 inches smaller in length and width.

I don't think the pattern could be adjusted for 6 placemats. You would have to make 2 sets of the same colors, ending up with 8 total.

Layer your fabrics light alternating with dark or medium values.

I can't wait to make mine this evening! See you all!

Hi all,

Will be starting at 8 p.m. and will start a new thread. Have had company all week and haven't been on the computer. They left today and then I had a Garden Club holiday luncheon to go to. So I should be back to mostly normal for awhile.

Sue B. You will have to slice and shift layers and sew so I can only give you instructions for 4. There probably would be a way to do 6 but sometimes I am mathematically challenged.

Ladies, those are all gorgeous fabrics. See you at 8 p.m.

Thanks for stepping in Ang for those questions.

I have some wine and cheese for snacks. So see you all later.

Mary

Got my fabrics all the same size, Sue found some great matches in my stash. Love it when that happens. Supper is done, dishes done, dog has been out, now to find some snacks to share.
Pepsi, of course, how about some nice Wisconsin Cheddar cheese and crackers. I some of those flipside crackers that go really well with cheddar cheese, see you all in 30 min. Pat

I am here for fun and sewing... my four FQs are squared (rectangled off) and ready!

And, I am wearing my comfy house shoes that my mom, our hostess, says are "ugly shoes"!

Woo hoo! It's going to be a great night!
