I bought some fabric that has the factory set in wrinkles, you know, you see it in lots of things. It is like the fabric has a "memory" and reverts back to the wrinkles even if you press it. My question is this. Would you leave it all wrinkled like that to cut something out? I don't know exactly how to treat it. I am afraid it will turn out to be huge on me if I leave all the wrinkles in but on the other hand, that is part of the charm of the fabric. Any ideas?

I am. BUT I have bought blouses at Dre*ssbarn with all the creases. They DO shrink up. Leave the crinkles as is and cut out. Is the pattern specifically for that kind of fabric?

I personally would avoid a crinkled fabric, but leave the crinkles in when you cut it.
Here's a link that might help you. http://swn-archive.sew-whats-up.com/archive/t-18519.html |

I thought that is what I should do. No, the pattern is not specifically for that type of fabric. Actually it is kind of a fancy fabric....but thought it would make a nice Christmas jacket. Has some sequins and embroidery on it. I will go ahead and cut it out as you both suggested.
Well, I just read the article you suggested Downsouth, and sounds like I might be swearing before I am done? LOL It was really a bargain fabric so if it is too bad, it might go in the garbage! My mind is a garden. My thoughts are the seeds. My harvest will be either flower or weeds. --Mel Weldon |

Leave the crinkles in, then stay-stitch the edges of the pieces before you sew them. That way, they stay the same shape as the pattern. Or, if you don't mind doing LOTS of tracing, trace around the pattern pieces on cutting line, stay-stitch BEFORE cutting out, and then cut on the lines you traced.

Since this is for a jacket, the lining will probably stabilize it for you. If it is unlined, I would either put in a lining anyway (they are pretty easy), or do the stay stitching to help stabilize it.
