It is amazing Sandie, I knew there were many variables of arranging the blocks, but I am still amzed at all the beautiful quilts from one pattern.

Chris I just love the second quilt you showed q the yellow center blocks really pop for me in that layout

Jean that Pam Bono design is just gorgeous too! I love her patterns! All that gorgeous quilting in the cream background makes me drool.

Liked reading that you pp'ed the log cabins. I've done that also. I've made two LCs and on the first one I learned me and consistent straight stitching were not friends, so pp it was for the second one.

All of the quilts are beautiful.

The LC is such a versatile block.

Trish, do you have any thoughts on how ambitious a quilt you're aiming for?
I guess I'm one of the few who haven't made a Log Cabin Quilt. Have got some patterns, does that count? My first thought was a lovely Quilt in a Day Eleanor Burns has recently done. Of course there are videos and books. Sometimes you don't need the pattern since her videos are so thorough. You can view the video links, can't you?

This is a striking quilt and appeals to me more that some log cabin quilts. Not sure why. Eleanor has several versions of a Log Cabin, this one is called Orion's Star. Design for jelly rolls and layer cakes, I believe.
I also have some photos of friends' logs shown at our guild meeting. I think I'd get really tired of making mountains of the same blocks, over & over. Scrappy, and an alternating block looks more doable for me, maybe you too? BTW, in the photo, 5 quilts(except the upper center, scrappy w/braid border) were made by Bev.(yellow top in 2 photos) A quilting dynamo!

Hi Karen Thanks, yes watching the videos while I'm typing...LOL...I am loving the barn raising log cabin because it reminds me of happy times at grandmas... of course noting is set in stone yet, but I sure have wonderful inspiration from you ladies.

I'm drooling over Elenaors ruler with the slots for cutting.

I have two log cabins in progress right now...need to resize then will be back to post...

this quilt is made with the shabby chic log cabin blocks from Talia's swap several years ago...the border is partially hand quilted and the blue pen markings will wash out. I hope to finish quilting it this year.

This quilt top is made with fabbies from a kit I purchased on shop-hop several years ago. It was the first kit I had ever purchased...normally I like to use stash and go more scrappy but the fabbies were perfect for my DIL. I ended up designing the quilt myself because the pattern in the kit didn't appeal to me anymore when I finally got the kit out of hiding. Hope to get this one quilted this year also.

...very pretty - very 'girly' is it for you or a gift for some other special young lady?

City/Sandie, I do just love this quilt...it is very soft looking in person and the border fabric I used is a vintage piece of cotton that is very soft and worn...love it! It is also a very nice rememberance of Talia...she was my roommate for the New Hampshire retreat. I must admit, I do want to keep this one but I do have two little granddaughters now and it might have to go to one of them sometime. I have made them both baby quilts and one of them a little girl quilt when she was two. The other one still needs her little girl quilt. We'll see. Maybe I will keep this for the little girl in me!

..... Just my HO .. but i think some nice little girl right there needs that one .. Granddaughter can have it 'some day'... maybe when she has a little girl. It's so like us to give away all the lovely things we make, it's just who we quilters are .. but sometimes we really need to just give them to ourselves. The black and white Stack n Whack I made has been coveted by all my kids - well I used it on the table for my daughters memorial service - so the fight amongst them is over - it will go to one of her sons someday. Note I said SOMEday ... meanwhile it hangs folded and over a divider screen in my room near my bed.
Keep the quilt.

Your thoughts on your own Blk and Wht quilt come close to my heart...I didn't have a quilt for my daughter's funeral but I do have all of her T-shirts yet and am going to make myself a quilt with them. I was thinking I should divide them up and make my remaining three kids each a quilt as a rememberance of their sister but I think maybe the mom is the one who needs the quilt. Thank you...

I've been puttering about in EQ6 with designs and layouts...I'm still hung upon the curved pattern (barn raising) but have designed one that is really starting to appeal to me,it just needs to be tweaked a bit...famous last words
