I watched the Bonnie Hunter webcam last night. Lisa-TX got me excited about getting these blocks out and finishing something with them.
I put these on my design wall and this is how I'm going to lay them out. It's kinda hard to tell, but the quilt will be square and I want to use black for the corners.
Here's my question: do I fill all those corners with black squares equal in size to each of the blocks?
The only other way I could think of to do it would be to add corner triangles and then one big triangle to each corner. I'm not sure that would look good.
Can you put(float) some red on the corners of some of the black squares to replicate the secondary block in the blocks already laid out? Hope that is clear

You mean that you're not making any more block parts, right? Just want to make sure that we're on the same page . I think that the easiest solution would be like what Jean recommended. Red binding maybe?

Lisa - yes, I'd like to NOT make any more of these blocks! I really want some sort of red binding!
Jean - I like the idea of strips and not blocks...
May - I thought about (and tried) putting three of the four blocks in each corner. I wasn't so happy with that look. I realize that isn't exactly what you were asking...
It's not exactly straight, and I need to make one more block, but this would be another option.
I really like Jean's suggestion of red sashing strips and then red binding. The red would make your blocks "pop". Mak a few red strips and lay it out to see what you think.
Pam - I'm a little confused...I don't see where Jean recommended red sashing? If you sash the blocks, you lose the secondary pattern with the red and white blocks.
How about this ... and a red plaid binding to play off the plaids in the quilt fabrics.
Of course, you would have to play with the measurements on the corner pieces so they would be equal .. I just cropped your image and fit it back in as best I could just to give the idea...

This is going to be interesting to see what you do.... I have some of these blks (I think?? ) and really like the idea of playing with them in a fun way now that I have seen what you have done!! Instead of just a 'normal' square top with the blks interlocking, make them stand out! thanks for the ideas!!

I do like the look of what Q posted . . . not too many more blocks for you to make. Yes, the beginning of March. I know that you can do it! Now I need to get started on something so I'll have it ready for show and tell that night.
I think that Jean's recommendation was to use strips of black to fill in around the pieced block to avoid the big triangles of black like Jill mentioned.
It will be fun to see what you come up with, Jill. I will be excited to see it in person .
I like the layout Q did. I was thinking of a different layout and yes you would lose the secondary design so scrap that idea-lol! I would make the plaid larger though-maybe? Hmm this is where an EQ would come in handy.
