What are your crafty/quilty goals for this week 1-11-13?
This is our new weekly thread. Share with us your goals for this week. They can be as simple or as complicated as you wish- they're your goals.

I found this thread motivating last week. My goal was to cut up a huge pile of jeans into 6 inch squares. Because I'd written it down, I didn't let myself get sidetracked, which is so easy to do. I finished the last square last night!

This week's goal is to put the binding on a couch quilt that I finished at least a year ago, and is to be a retirement gift for a friend who has since retired.

So how about you? Did you meet last week's goals if you had any? What is your goal for this week?
Holly

I wrote what I accomplished on our last thread... I did meet three out of the four goals I had listed.
My goals this week:
Try the chain block I think I'll use for the HGTV MB BOM.
Sort the three bags of T-shirts a niece gave me to make her a quilt and start to cut out logos and make some decisions. This will be an on-going goal until the T-shirts become a quilt!

My goals for this week:

Sylvia block, at least 1
Catch up with Barbara Brackman's Grandmother's Choice
At least 1 block from Carol Doak's Mystery Quilt

Did I meet my goal? Hmmm. Partly. I did get out and get the fabric I needed for my QOV and I did reorganize my sewing room but I did not work on my QIV quilt as hoped. So my next goal is just that.

I met one goal and worked on the others. New goal for this week is to get all my projects ready to take to camp next week. We are having freezing rain today so schools and my office is closed so that is what I will focus on today. Then will continue to work on borders for 2012 BOM. Anything else I might get done will be a bonus!

Keep calm and carry on

My goals this week are:

To make myself a new skirt. It has been cut out and waiting to be sewn since last winter.
To start on a quilt using my vintage kitties blocks.
To buy a new printer so I can start on my Shabby Fabrics free bom.

Finish January Sunshine Quilters block
Think about finishing my 2003 siggy swap quilt. Top is done, have backing and batting so why don't I have it completed?

I did get my HGTV 2013 BOM finished , and the chain blocks all cut out. I have the borders on the baby quilt and I have some of the sashings on the chicks. I will make the last two my goal for this week. It is nice to see all of the projects everyone is working on too.

I didn't get ten blocks done. Frown I think I got 5 or 6 done tho... So I'm gonna see if this week I can finish up the 4 small ones an at leaf one, if not 2, of the bigger ones done.

Oh, and work on retreat stuff Smile

I made the initial mug rug, and got it mailed.

I came across a posting EvelynB had about a boot themed tree skirt, so getting started on that is my goal for this week. Pull the fabrics, and start cutting the pieces.

I finished part of mine. School has started back and my sewing time will be next to nothing. BUT I hope to work some more on the leftover goal-a new to me pattern-using stash. So far it is looking pretty good. Would like to at least get the blocks all made this week.

Kudos to everyone on meeting some or all your goals!

Thanks for this thread. Here's what I hope to do this week:

continue making flying geese as leaders/enders to use for a border on my Easy Street

continue working on the hand applique and make some of the pieced blocks for DGD's quilt

make more blocks (4 or 5) for the raffle quilt

get samples ready for the mini lesson I'm teaching at guild meeting

If I get that all done, I'll also start on the binding for my Dresden plate quilt. I don't have much on my schedule for the next week so I should be able to do this.

As you can see, I usually have several projects in progress at the same time. I tend to get bored if I work on one at a time.

I have a goal for this week too. I really want to make a decision on the BOM chain block, I keep going back to the original idea. But then I can't picture how it will look. Hmmmm
The other thing I want to do is to finish the 2 QWL quilts that Sue and I are making for the challenge. We have both of them cut, one has all the squares made, just need to put the sashing on and turn it into a top. Yay. we are liking how neat they are going to turn out.
Good Luck to all with their new goals. Pat

ok, well got 2 of my goals from last week done, got three couch pillows done, and 1 redwork swap block done.
Still need to do my CQJP pieces, but have it sketched out, so will make that my goal this week, and one more redwork block done by Friday.

I also am adding to my goals, to clean out one drawer or basket of clothing a week to throw away or donate anything not worn in that last year!

Got 4 mendings done for hubbs. Basic stuff. But washed one of his vests and all the stuffing shifted! (It said machine washable! So.......apparently I must get creative, and slip open the insides to either repack, re=arrange or re quilt the (expensive) thing. Well, I like challenges!!! making so l dier blocks too. Really just want to cross-stitch a sampler, eat dessert and read a novel...

My goal this week is going to have to be a little less, because I have Jury Duty starting Jan 14 for the week. With that in mind, I hope to complete the BOM for Jan and help Patty J with our QWL quilts. Will see how much time jury duty will allow me. LOL. Anael, love your blocks. Sue

This week I want to square up the hourglass blocks I made previously. They are going into a QWL quilt top. And I want to cut out the focus fabric squares for the same top - whoohoo I found the fabric last week, hiding in my stash.

Last week I also got all the Christmas paper, tags, bows and ribbons off the cutting/sewing table. This week I hope to get the sewing machine back on it, thread it up and get it ready to rrrrrrrrrr.

My goals this week are to get at least 1-2 chain blocks done and get started on the Initial Mugrug. I have several appointments this week, so I hope to get this much done. I did make my goals for last week. I'm going to keep my goals simple each week so as not to overwhelm myself. If I get more done then I can feel good about myself.

I got some of goals from last week done. I still haven't finished the witch wall hanging. One of the girls at work had a critically ill father who passed away today. So, I worked about double my normal days. I'm happy with what I accomplished!

Next week: work on finishing the witches. I bought fabric and a pattern that I want to work on throughout the year as a 'leaders and enders' project. Another goal for this week is to get the fabric out and cut into strips so they will be ready to actually use as leaders and enders.

Whoever started this "goal" posting --THANK YOU! My first UFO is totally done after languishing since JULY. Finished the quilting, label, and binding. Woohoo! Second UFO is almost done. Decided to hand quilt the high contrast blocks only 3 left to do. They should be done by bedtime tonight. Especially if I get off this computer any time soon. Next week's goals -- 2 guild blocks done and packing up my bookcase and everything on it for my room reorganization. Anything else will be bonus.

Well, I had two things listed that I wanted to get done this past week - a chr*stening blanket and a sweater for me. The blanket is finished, but I'm still working on my sweater. The reason - I crocheted a cute little white sweater to go with the blanket. I've also decided that the sweater that I'm working on for myself is going to be way too big. I followed the instructions for a 1X (which is what I normally wear) exactly, but I think that the sweater is going to be either a large 2x or a small 3x! Anyway, I've started on the second sweater that I wanted to make for myself and I'm doing it in the Large. We'll see if that's a better fit. I also was able to get the material for my COF row robin and I am putting that on my list for completion this week. I plan on doing the cutting tomorrow.

I really like this thread 'cause, as was said before, it really helps to have your goals out there instead of just inside your head. I think that we all can concentrate on completing items if we tell others that we're going to have them done (don't want to disappoint anyone). Wink

You could say that I met my goal from last week.
I got the quilt on my longarm quilted and the binding half done. I got half of the 2012 MB BOM sewed together. and I got DH garbage bag for his truck done.
This next weeks goal is to finish the quilt for my DGF and get the 2012 Bom done. Also to get a quilt top on to the long arm, and start to quilt it.
Tomorrow I have a long arm quilting class.

I think this is a great topic! It is fun to see all your plans and ideas for the week.

My goal this week is to restart working on my Winter Wonderland redwork quilt. I haven't touched it in proabably two years. I just had surgery so I think this will help with all the resting I am supposed to do, lol!

I didn't meet last week's goals: 2 mug rugs and COF row robin...I have one almost finished - managed to lose the perfect fabric I need! How do I do that, set it out right where I could find it and it disappeared, sigghhh....I was making a sample block for RR and have decided on color arrangements, but it just wasn't coming together right...around 0300 it hit me why!! now, to figure the math to get it right..It, along with the mug rugs, will be done and in the mail by Tuesday. What I did manage was 10 more 4 patch for Easy street (doing as leader/enders), finished up 4 pillow cases to donate 16 locally so far this year, and did more unsewing (mug rug) than I did sewing Frown once last weeks are done and mailed, my goal this week is to border at least one, or two, UFO that I stitched together before the holidays. I'm finding time management is going to be the biggest problem of mine initially with retirement!!!

I got my goals done for last week. I'm heading out of town this week, so I'm just going to keep working on the border blocks for DH's quilt. I'm hoping i can get quite a few done.

Same one as last week. I intended to finish hand quilting a quilt this past week. I was cleaning out my closet and found a box of Mill Hill cross stitch Christmas ornaments and the rest is history. I stitched three of them this week.

Ok the cross stitching yearn is out of my system for a while so back to what I have to get done.

Good luck ladies on your goals.

Well, I completed last week's goal, but not till this afternoon. It was to get a top quilted. I'm showing the minkee backing which shows off the quilting nicely.

So this week's goal is to take it shopping for binding fabric and get the binding machine stitched onto the 1st side. (Baby steps for me.)

Don't think I posted my goal last week, but I made it. Smile To finish making the folded dimensional bow tie blocks from one of the threads on here a few weeks ago. It was all handwork, my favorite thing.
Goal this week is to cut the plain blocks to go between the bow ties and plan it all out. Maybe even sew some, together.
Will probably use my featherweight for sewing together. I haven't used it much since i got it. Red Face:

There will be 12 blocks Patty. This mystery BOM started last year May. I have some catching up to do as I became a member of Carol's Yahoo Group in October. That's where these mystery blocks are posted.

Anael, you do beautiful work.

SeeingStars, that is some gorgeous quilting.

I met my goals: I got the two fleece blankets for the women's shelter done, washed, and ready to take. I was so inspired that I put a binding on another quilt so it's ready to go as well. I worked on the design for the Sandy Hook Commemorative Quilt, and tomorrow I intend to start on the initial work on the top.

My goal this week is to finish the appliqued leaves and perfect circles for grapes on a paper-pieced round robin I started a loooonnnnng time ago. Once the leaves are done (96 of them) I can do the flowers and grape clusters.

Okay, if I get off here, I can go back to leaves.

To clean up and re-arrange my sewing room! today I managed to make a bigger mess and can barely get in the door. I have a lot of stuff in there other than sewing and way too much furniture. hopefully tomorrow I can get the furniture where I want it and then star going through fabric.

I pretty much met my goals- I got the pants hemmed for the girls at work & I got my butt out of bed early most days this week, so I got the mug rug made.
I didn't tidy the sewing room though & I also still haven't decided about the BOM! Roll Eyes

This week I plan on working on some blocks for the Sunshine Quilters.

Worked on cutting and sergeing pillowcases. Have a few to serge yet and quite a few to run the thread thru& turn and then get them all pressed. Then start on the next batch with the fabric I found when I cleaned out the spare bedroom yesterday... Chris

I got my mugrug finished and mailed and the Sunshine blocks done for Jan and Feb. They will be mailed tomorrow. Didn't get the two donation crib quilts quilted and bound. That's my least favorite job.

This week I MUST get them them done to free up room for more. But my crumb bucket is overflowing and all I want to do today is easy free sewing.
I have a set of hand appliqued heart blocks and a set of teddy bear blocks waiting to be put into tops, so if I can pick coordinating fabrics for them, maybe I can get them out of my UFO bin!
Joan

ps - I find this thread to be very inspirational and motivational. There's something about putting it out there that makes it more necessary to get it done.

When I read what everybody has accomplished this is really working!

I thought I had to do a few Carol Doak blocks to catch up but I only had to do one and that one is finished. So only the Barbara Brackman blocks are left. Maybe I will set myself another goal for this week, like the applique Sylvia blocks!

I did get my thread organized (last week's goal) but that went along with a landslide of cleaning & rearranging & reorganizing my sewing room. Now I need to track down some proper-sized storage containers & finish the job. I'm also contemplating moving a bookcase from another room to my sewing room, but that means a major unpacking of the case & figuring out what to do with its contents (which do need to be weeded out). IF I have the energy this week, and IF I don't have too many medical appointments, I may tackle that.

I'm also surfing the web & gathering ideas for new projects. I can do that on any given week til the printer runs out of ink & I've gone thru a ream of paper! Eek But it really helps me to see what others have done -- that's when my creative wheels start turning.

So if I don't get the bookcase moved, maybe I'll work on getting what I've printed into a notebook this week. A mini-goal?

We've got TONS of days til Christmas again, right?! So it's OK if I don't sew presents this week? (I say that every January... Roll Eyes )

Waaaaaaaa! My sewing machine died!!!

l did get the quilt finished for the baby shower but l did not get my DGD's late birthday quilt finished b/c of my machine quitting on me.
l also finished cleaning off one shelf in my sewing closet so that leads me to this weeks goals......

1. l plan to fill up that cleaned off shelf with new fabric (already purchased!)
2. Clean off the table in my sewing room.
3. Cut more squares from scraps.
4. Put away squares.

I LOVE football! Well...not really, but my DH does, so I had all da in the sewing room & i already met my goal for this week! I got 6 blocks made for the Sunshine Quilters- 2 each for Jan, Feb & Mar.

I need to get some birthday blocks made for for some friends, so I'll try to work on them the rest of this week. Of course, it will involve dragging my butt out of bed early again Roll Eyes

ok, so today I was suppose to go to the dentist, but she has the flu and cancelled. I was so sad! NOT!! lol
Anyway, I cleaned out one dresser, and cleaned off the top, (piled as high as the mirror)sorted out the clothes, 1 bag to Goodwill, 1 bag to trash. Also in that mess was a set of Power Rangers sheet set, that my son had and the grandson will love getting them.
Working on my redwork block, 2nd one 1/2 done.
Still need to pull fabrics for CQJB, but will do that this afternoon.
Holly, thanks so much for setting this up, it really helps me focus on what I want to get done each week!!
