Would really like to find a free block pattern that is like this. I have pushed my brain to it's limits this morning trying to figure it out or to find a pattern I could use. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Good find, EvelynB. Only difference seems to be the size of the boughs and that they are split in the middle.

Any idea, goaskmom, how big the block is? That'll help determine how big to make the boughs.

Can you make the block in two stages? Make a full block with the left side colors, make another block with the right side colors. Cut both blocks down the center and switch halves and resew. that would give you a set of blocks with half of them shadowed on the left and the other half shadowed on be right. But if you notice the two blocks on the bottom right of the posted picture, it looks like that is what might have been done.

Found three places where you can buy the pattern, but you did say you were looking for something free. So sorry I couldn't help you. Evelyn's find could be your best answer.

Very pretty, what three places had the pattern for sale? What is the name of the patten design?

Thank to all of you, guess I will need to get my courage up and play! The pattern is called "into the woods". I saw it on pintrest.

No I have no idea how big the block is but I would hope it is a bigger block. The pattern I found says 46x54, so the blocks must be pretty good size.

Just went and looked at another site and the block is 7x12 so maybe it could be made as one and cut in half and put back together.

Lg56 I sent you a PM. Always wonder how close some of us really are!!

Cute quilt. If you cut the block in half you would need to make sure you add the extra 1/2" in the middle. Otherwise you won't get a nice point at the top of you tree.

I tried sewing HST's then horizontal cuts. Move the to the left to get the limbs, then trim. But that wastes a LOT of fabric. Surely this is done by paperpiecing instead. Looks very cozy in flannel.

I think that the block size of 7 x 12 is one half of the the tree only a

Problem has been solved with some help. Yes it is a 7x12 block, which is 1/2 of the 14 inch block. Now to make a sample block and see if it looks like it is suppose to. Hopefully I can do this tomorrow if hubby doesn't decide he has something to do. This retirement stuff sure does cut into the sewing time!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!

One suggestion I would add is to press the seams up on the left hand blocks and down on the right hand blocks then the lines will mesh together to keep the seams straight when you sew the two halves together.

Ya dun good!
