What size quilts do you make? I have a problem........ I start making a quilt and just can't stop. LOL I have a lot of bed sized quilts that all need to be quilted. I start out thinking I'll make a nice size couch quilt and before I know it - BAM another big one. If I like a pattern it just happens. LOL

Vicki, Sue and I are currently making 2 King size quilts for Christmas, boy do they take the time. Usually we make big laps or even smaller ones to go on the wall. It just depends on the pattern we are making or the technique we are trying to learn.LOL

I make lots of lap sized quilts although I make a fair share of bed sized quilts too. Lots of patterns look wonderful when you just make a portion of them (some don't especially if their main design is a square). I did an online sampler last year and decided I didn't want a large quilt, so I split the blocks and made two generous lap quilts. You can play with different settings and borders for each quilt. Sometimes it is nice to have a coordinated pair of lap sized quilts.

Bed quilts only. Most of my quilts are made to fit my bed, a double pillow top queen...so a bit larger than a normal queen. I also make baby quilts. Now that the grands are growing, I'm making three youth bed size ABC quilts for them for Christmas.

I have some of my GGMs quilts that I use on the couch so no need to "waste" my time making more of those.

I'm not much on wallhangings. I was in a swap and have one for every season - that's enough for me.

Mainly twin or lap size if i quilt them myself. If i take it to a quilter, then i make a full size. never attempted one bigger than that.

I quilt lots of baby quilts to give out, same with lap quilts and many, many bed quilts. While my short-arm is indisposed, I've been quilting them all on my regular Janome! Almost finished with a queen size!!

I've found that with the 505 basting spray, I'm getting better and faster quilting even big quilts on my Janome!

I can start making a lap quilt and it turns into something bigger. Finished sizes that I plan are always estimates.

I have a hard time making anything smaller than bed size. My whole concept of a "quilt" is tied to quilts like I grew up with, on the bed. I have made one king sized quilt and don't think I ever want to do that again. I'm trying to do generous lap quilts and do baby quilts. Just can't get interested in wall hangings, although I love the way they look when displayed.

Most have been queen except what I made for QWL.

I've made 2 kings and nope not gonna do that again. Even when I had my longarm the quilting was difficult! If I like a pattern I have a hard time putting it down and it just keeps growing! LOL I've made a lot of queens and twin quilts. I'm working on one now that I just don't want to stop making it. It's a beaut! LOL I need to get some extra $ to begin quilting the 20 or more quilts I have sitting here to quilt. I just can't get the machine quilting - I wish I could.....

Oh. I too have made ONE king-size and quilted it on my regular machine. There won't be another.

IF I make a top for one of the kids, I'll send it out for quilting.

I am presently working on Piccadilly Circus from the August/Sept issue of Quilt magazine. I just love it in 30's and want to keep going. LOL
KeepYouInStitches You quilted a king on a regular sewing machine? Now that is a super woman kind of thing!

I have the opposite problem, I find a pattern I like and it's either lap or wall size. I try to figure out what I'll need to make it bed size and nearly always come up short. Of course, they are always out of the fabric I need to finish. Some of the patterns give you the quanity you need to make it bigger, those I really appreciate.

I live in a small house with my parents... so lots of smaller quilts (36" or smaller), but some lap size as well.

I know the feeling of running out of fabrics! LOL My 30's quilt may end at the pattern size after all - I'm not sure if I have enough to make it larger. I still have to cut out the circles for the middles so need to do that before I run out. LOL Love 30's - so happy!

Along these lines....how do you determine what size your quilt is? I am considering entering a quilt in our local county fair. The premium book has different categories for domestic arts. Under quilting, it has bed-size or larger, then lap sized. My quilt is 61" x 77". I found a site that listed twin as 54" x 90" and lap as 54" x 72". If I multiply the measurements, my quilt is smaller than a twin, but bigger than a lap! I am sure if I take it to the fair, the group in charge will help me determine which category to enter it in. I've never entered a quilt before so am very nervous already and the fair doesn't even start until August 17th!

Vicki- I feel your pain in so many ways! One of the last quilts that I made was supposed to be a wide twin size- the person I was making it for is a tall individual & I wanted to make sure that he had plenty of room to use it as a lap quilt. When I was making it, I just kept going on & on & on. He now proudly keeps it on his king-size bed & it goes over the sides of the mattress!

From the time I started cutting the fabric to putting on the last boarder was 9 weeks. I even went so far as to call my sister in NC & ask her if she wouldn't come visit because if she did, I'd have to put my sewing machine away & I needed to get that quilt top finished! She chuckled & agreed to help me out by staying home. I will NEVER put myself on such a time crunch again!

Stm - that's one of my problems too - cuz when you start enlarging then you think oh it could be a bed quilt now and how am I going to get it the full size. LOL Best of luck on your entry - that is so exciting! Woo Hoo!
Susan - what a great sister! LOL King size are such a pain! I'm not going to make anymore, well until the next one. LOL

Usually queen or twin bed size. A few crib size quilts but latly I have been doing a BOM for the Carol Doak site and they are 60 X 60 I may make them bigger or leave them that size just have to wait and see.

Mostly twin or queen size quilts for me...

Bed size quilts that we use. I have made a couple of baby quilts though & liked working on that size because they finished so quickly. When I work on a larger size I have been known to take forever to finish.
