Half the people I work with live on Long Island. I can ask around. I just asked the Thursday guy and he said its probably going to be hard finding anything with so many displaced people. He doens't know of anything avail.

Our apartment in Brooklyn is about an hour away, but when you add wait times for the Long Island Railroad, subway and walking between stations it's probably more like 2 hours. If he will have a vehicle, mapquest lists our apartment as 37 mins from Valley Stream and 1 hr 9 mins from Babylon, so that varies quite a bit - do you know where he will be working?

If he is interested in Brooklyn, I can ask around my area. If our mortgage comes through, we could even wait an extra month to give notice to management on our apartment and he could have that, but thats $1300 a month for a 1 br and might be more than his expenses allow.

Tory, why isn't his company booking him a place somewhere close to where he will be working or they shouldn't expect him to go there?

When both of my sons travel, all the hotel and flight arrangements are taken care of by their companies, and they submit an expense report for restaurants, other expenses when they return.

Jane- Thanks for asking around! Seems like a good way for folks to make a lttle extra cash, there are hundreds of these guys coming to the area. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your mortgage, regardless! I'll ask him specifics about his area tonight. He mentioned getting an apartment but he'd rather not have to deal with searching, making the down payments & setting up utilities just for a couple of months so that would be great if it works out.

Down south- I think it's because he's an independent adjuster. He hasn't been impressed with the overall organization of this group but they're a big company down here. Of course, he's comig from a 20 year military career so he's pretty organized, lol.

One guy at work knows of someone who did have an apartment that is furnished and was set up ready for a friend to move in, but that fell through.

He believes it might still be vacant as the guy was hesitant to rent it to strangers, especially since it is above his house. My work week starts again on Thursday and i will be finding out then if its still vacant. It is on long island btw.

Thanks Jane, he came home. Between the disorganized company he was with, gas rationing, sharing a bed with another guy & a four month commitment he decided The cost of staying up there was too hi. I really appreciate you looking out for him!
