I love the Stampington & Co. magazines. Their website has a section with lots of project ideas:
Remember, just about anything "they" can do with paper, "we" can do with fabric. Many of their paper projects use stitching anyway.
I've really been interested lately in printing images & text on fabric. Those magazines & that site are great inspirations for me. Take a look & let your creative imagination run wild.
I haven't gone to the site yet but I agree, inspiration does come from other mediums. Just because a site is a craft you don't do, check it out anyway. You never can tell.
Interesting ideas!!! TFS!
my philosophy: there are no real mistakes in quilting, just design opportunities!!
I'm delightfully surprised at how "loose" and "free" the sewing is on many of the projects in their magazines. Here we are fussing about precisely staggering intersections & making perfect 1/4" seams, and there they are, stitching down fabrics w*lly-nilly and encouraging raw edges to fray. It's refreshing to think that I can loosen all those Quilt Police "rules" and still come up with something amazing. Seems I skipped right over the "art" side of quilting & sewing in my hurry to get to the "traditional" side. Both can co-exist!
wow, there's some neato stuff in there...I'm on inspiration overlaod...
"It's bad to supress laughter. It goes back down and spreads to your hips."
Great site TFS!!!!
I LOVES inspiration!
"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
I don't know if all the projects there have been published before, but I think I recognize "Pixie Place" from a magazine I just got over the weekend!
I got on the Stampington bandwagon after they'd been publishing for awhile. They are wonderful magazines and as I said, I look at the projects with "How can I do something like that with fabric?" in mind. The projects with unstructured fabric use and free-form sewing are refreshing for me to see, especially after staring at my quilt block pieces for awhile.
... have you guys tried ZENTANGLES?
I'ts literally doodling with fabric instead of ink and paper ... looks pretty nice
I've only seen the paper & ink (like in art journals) zentangles. In fact, they remind me of exactly how I doodle when I'm stuck on the phone on hold! Never saw any with fabric. Will have to look that up...
... Will Quilt for Chocolate has done some, maybe we can get her to show us a bit ....
Here's my Zentangle inspired quilts
Then I decided that I wanted to throw a little color in there!
And then I just kept going...
and this is one of my favorites... (the pink that looks like a heart)
With this one, I used the stack n whack technique too
And, this might be my other favorite!
... WQFC .. thank you so much for sharing those - they are all so unique .. I especially like the 4 panel with the ORANGE .. ahem.. someones fav color that one is O.T.T.!
