During 2008, participants will try their best to use only their existing stash to make their quilts and quilted projects.
You also must keep a written record of all quilts you completed from your stash during 2008! This is not something that you will need to send in the mail (so you're saving on postage!). There will be no stash-busting police to check on your honesty!!
If you have a finished project for our Stashbusting Challenge please post stating "I have finished xxxx". I'm asking this because I don't always get to read the postings. It would help Pat and I out alot. thanks..
Got a couple of blocks made - gifts - and something for someone here I can't say because it's a surprise, and I gave the patriotic wallhanging to my VietNam vet friend on mothers day. She has no family to celebrate the good person she is - so she is part of our bunch .. and mama liked her, my parents were good about taking in 'strays' of every kind
I have the binding done on the last of hte charity quilts for my guild! And started doing more of the abc bindings... I have one more at that point to finish up. I did quilt another one (got a bit more batting) and am 1/2 done quilting the peek a boo quilt for the principal. =) I am gone all day and was gone all day yesturday.. sinus stuff is kicking in and I'm hoping my voice holds out this morning. Tonight is our new mom's tea at our twins club and I signed up for 1/2 hour massage and I can't wait! Tommorrow morning I'm at home and can do some more sewing =)
WHEW! I have been running around non-stop for the past 2 weeks. I have been at the kids' school every day! I helped in both classrooms, had meetings, PTO stuff, reading tutoring, After School Enrichment classes where I taught sewing and cake decorating, worked 30 hrs each week, laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. And I think I slept for about 20 minutes too. I'm TIRED! Got to sew for the first time today. I've been working on my patriotic show&tell table runner for Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully I'll get the top finished this weekend. For now it's nap time!
Funny things: Me: "It's time for bed and I want you to be quiet." Son: "Well... I don't know... but I'll try."

Yesterday I finished the last of my blocks for the "choose your own color" string swap. If you haven't played in that swap before, the next time we do it you should join! It is so much fun- and a great way to use up your scrapes.
Thank you so much for my little April surprise, gardenpat! I just laughed out loud when I saw it! I have a plan in mind and hope to work on it now that I finished the CYOC swap.
Bindings on two quilts 3 pillow cases 30 tissue holders 5 30's string squares Made a diaper bag with my mom (too cute!)
Ok that is all! Things are starting to settle down with Sophie and the house guests and welcoming parties will be gone on Monday so then I plan to spend at least 15 min each day in the sewing room. She seems to like taking a mid morning nap so hopefully I will get a few more minutes in there!
Thank you so much for all of the well wishes! I will post some pics when I get a chance to take and resize them!
More than a year ago, I decided to use the ideas presented on this site to use up some of my scraps. It took a while to do the cutting but once that was done, all I did was use the pieces as leaders and enders. Recently, I started putting the four patches and HSTs together. Here's what I have so far (blocks are not sewn together yet).
Today I finished the peek a boo quilt! I'm so excited and I have it to the kids principal who's just beside herself because she loves it so much!
I also gave another teacher a set of 12 bibs adn 5 little pairs of fabric shoes. She's just a sweetheart of a lady and is adopting from Russia and is finally going over Memorial Day to visit her new little boy for the first time...and she wanted to take some things to donate to the orphanage. She had tears in her eyes about me giving her those to take. Made me feel so good!
So now I'm working on a few of my mom's projects and a table squares that have been on my UFO list for a long time ..since I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it to go together. Well yesturday I figured it out so I'm fixing it and hoping to get it done in no time. Oh and I think I figured out what I'm going to do with my little fabric cuties from you Pat!
I thought this thread was a special thread for members of a Stashbusting Club or something so never wanted to intrude. Never realized, until today, it was about using up what you had in your stash this year. I've been trying to do that myself this year because I won't be able to use up my present fabric in my lifetime.
I've made some things already so far this year from my stash. Should I post the pictures and dates here or how does this work???? Or am I too late to join the group????
In any case, I just finished this wallhanging today from my stash of 30s repros and other fabrics from my shelf. Nothing was bought for it, not even the thread. This is "Quilting Bee" 28" long by 31" wide.
Quiltbea you can join anytime. Send gardenpat your address via PM.
There really isn't a list ... we're very flexible. Post in the Stashbust thread that you finished a project using your stash and if possible a photo.
The idea is to use fabric from your stash. Yes there are times that we have to buy fabric to complete a project. We're trying to stop ourselves from buying willy-nilly
Welcome, welcome, quiltbea!!! (And anyone else who wants to "join up"!!)
Anyone who wants to use their stash to make wonderful projects is welcome!! And when you complete a project using your stash, if you send me (in a PM) your snail mail address, I'll send you a prize! (Don't get too excited- the prizes are small- FQs, etc. that doesn't take a fortune for me to mail!)
Se let's get sewing! I say that knowing that it will be tomorrow afternoon before I can get to my machine. I have a gardening class I'm in charge of from 10 - 1 pm. so I am not letting myself get distracted by going into the sewing room yet!
I have to say I'm being so good so far this year and not buying any fabric just using what's in my stash.... I even didn't buy any FQ for the Bingo game or for any FQ I've sent my SS this year.... I've only used my stash for CQing too oh and what came in my box from the CQ embellishment swap.... Opps I did have to go buy some clear beads yesterday for a CQ heart...

A pillow case with old fashioned red tractors with a bright red border for grandson.
I guess he was feeling a little neglected, as I have been sewing summer clothes for both GDs. He was watching me make baby bibs and saw the tractor fabric.
Will you make me something? I said sure not having any idea. Then i remembered the pretty pillow cases I have seen on the board. Problem solved.
Pville...I just love your Leaders and Enders quilt, such a great idea.It looks so planned.Wonderful.
Qbea...Your sewing bea WH is really cute. Nice fabrics.
I have not been sewing much for me. I Have been finishing up projects for my Quilt Guild and mushroom hunting. My big project was organizing a Class and Trunk Show for members and non-members with none other than the 4 Patch Stacked Posie originator,Mary Lou Hallenbeck. It was sensational and we had to turn people away. I have never met a more talented, generous and down to earth person before. She taught us so so much more than expected and literally gave away hundreds of dollars in free patterns and fabric and even kits. If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of her classes you will not be disappointed. She is very reasonable for classes and Trunk Shows. She has many more new patterns and ideas. I did get a B/W wall hanging finished I'll have to post pictures later, computer is not playing nice tonight.
