My mother has always loved Raggedy Ann! She has a few Raggedy Ann books that my siblings have given to her in addition to numerous figurines.

Now I would love to make my mother a raggedy ann quilt for her to use in the nursing home. I am looking for a quilt size from crib (she can use it to keep herself warm in the wheelchair) to twin (she can use it on her bed). The type of pattern I envisioned allows for a feature fabric, but I'm completely open to any & all designs. I'm hoping that I can find a pattern that isn't too horribly complicated & goes together reasonably quickly. I've got an idea as to two of the fabrics that I'm hoping to be able to use (I couldn't find a picture of them to post with this to give you an idea of what the fabrics look like).

My mother recently got out of the hospital after a two week stay for pneumonia. Because of other health issues she has that have been complicated by the pneumonia, I feel a sense of urgency to get this done. Any help that you could give me would be most gratefully appreciated!

Susan...I too love Raggedy Ann...

The first thing that came to my mind after reading your post was fusible applie in the center surrounded by feature fabric blocks, either a 9 patch or snowball blocks that could be strip pieced... with the right fabrics and blocks it should go together fairly quickly. There are so many wonderful Raggedy Ann coloring pages you could enlarge to use for the applique...

I found some Raggedy Ann fabrics several years ago and made this quilt for my grand niece.

It looks like a bicentennial fabric. Don't remember where it came from. It's only 12"x38". The dolls are 5x6", tip of flag to bottom of shoe.

That is a wonderful thing to do for her. My mother, in a care facility also, can no longer distinguish colors or fine details. You may want to add dimension like trapunto, hand embroidery or fuzzy hair. Appliqué an apron or other raised detail. And don't forget a label - for yourself down the road to remind you of the memories

The pattern that came to mind for me to suggest was "Warm Wishes". You could fussy cut the square part.

I made the Kaye Woods' Six Hour Quilt for my mil when she was in a home. It was made a lap size. Bil on one visit said the quilt was on her roommates bed. When he asked her about it, she said that mil had given it to her. Mil wasn't herself, so bil said she didn't understand about giving it away. He got it back for her.

A wonderful project for your Mom. Sorry she had a bout of pneumomia. Hope she improves with all her health issues.

Btw, have never made a Warm Wishes, but have seen some lovely ones posted on this board. Hope some of those who have made them will post photos.

Also, the Six Hour Quilt works up quickly. Could do it without a serger if you don't have one. Basicly, it is a rectangle log cabin. start with a 18 x 6 inch piece and add 6 inch pieces around it starting with the two long sides, then the two short sides. It is with all layers, so a sort of quilt as you go.

Susan - I think Warm Wishes would be a great design that would show off your focus fabric.
Also, I have a 1/2 yard of Daisy Kingdom RA&A in a checkerboard design #4512. Each square is about an inch. You are welcome to it if you could use it. It's been in my stash for years! Send me a PM if you could use it. No charge.

Jayardi - I just used up the last of this border in some scrap blocks. It's so cute.
