Hi- I'm new to this board. I was just wondering if there is any Cross stitchers out there. I do alot of sewing but my first love is cross stitching. I must have about 10 started. I just ordered about 3 more!! Am I alone? I've done a few Lavender and lace Santa's. Won first place at the fair for one of them. I did try Quilting but I rather be cross stitching. Don't mind the sewing of the top, just don't care for the quilting part. But I'm one of these people who has to try everything at least once. Wow I wrote alot. I better stop now. Eek

    Hi Shauna and welcome.

I used to do cross stitch but always liked the large pieces like those Santa's you mentioned and they take forever to finish. Congrats on your lst place ribbon. Those Lavender and Lace patterns finish up so nicely.

I've been sewing forever and making quilts for about 35 years. The first ones I made, I tied them. Then I started sending them out to be quilted by people that owned long arm quilting machines. Now I finish them on my own sewing machine unless it's a really large one.

Your comment about trying everything at least once, makes me wonder if it's like me with my comment of "Oh, I can do that!". hahaha

I enjoy both cross stitching and quilting (all of the steps). I think my favorite is to do some of each every day. Big Grin

Yes I enjoy doing counted cross stitch and quilting both. I haven't done any cross stitch for awhile because of my eyes, but still plan on doing sometime soon.

I cross stitch, in fact it used to be my passion until I got back into quilting last year. But on break every day at work I still work on my xs. At the moment I'm working on Fairy Idyll by Mirabilia. But also have pieces by L&L, Teresa Wentzler and multiple others in the works. Unfortunately now that more of my time goes into quilting my projects are going much more slowly. Check out the boards Pattilynn sends you, some of them are very busy.

I cross stitch. I did cross stitch all the time and one trip to Paducah quilt show caused me to have quilt fever so I have not cross stitched in a couple of years.

The last piece I finished was a Dutch Sampler that took me a few years to finish. I do a lot of Shepherds Bush, Just Nan and Barb & Cheryl designs so I have several started but none finished. LOL.

I have as many or more cross stitch projects started as I do quilt projects. I hope the good L*rd lets me live to be 150 so I can get them all done.

I love to talk cross stitch so do not hesitate to come back and talk to us. Welcome to the boards.

    Hi Shauna, welcome Smile

Can I get a button for joining the "I have 20 unfinished cross stitches in the cupboard" Club? Big Grin I haven't attempted the Lavender & Lace pattern I bought because I just know I wouldn't ever finish that one!

I made a deal with my better half when I started quilting. I said that for each quilting project I finished, I would do 40 hours of cross stitching.

Isn't it lucky that I have started 6 quilt projects and haven't yet finished any? It means I can keep quilting and quilting and don't have to go back to those cross-stitches!

PS.. Quiltsew - that is just beautiful!!!

Wow and Thanks. I'm in good company. I can tell. I love to xs on linen but it's getting harder to see. 32 count is small even though you go over 2 threads. Not like aida cloth. I just bought a kit called Victorian Charm by Sunset. Found out it's 18 count on navy. Could just as well go back to lien! Really have to have good lighting to work on this one. My next xs on my wish list to start is the Lavender and Lace Fairy Grandmother. Pattilynn- thanks for the pm. I'm going to check that out next. Oh and Jane_Kiwi- I might have that many to0- just didn't want anyone to know. They say that's a good sign of a great cross stitcher by how many she's got going on at one time. We must be experts!!! Thank you for all the great post. And thanks for the welcome. I'll be back. Is this the board that had the post about the sewing machine book? That was so funny!! I sew in my nightgown or jeans and a t-shirt but never with shoes on!!

I almost forgot-Quiltsewpieceful and Quiltlady 928 --Thanks for sharing your pictures. Those are great. Quiltlady-I don't understand why you didn't win first. One of the reasons I won first is because they never had one done on linen. Weird huh. Good for me though.

The last project I finished with cross=stitch was in 1976. It was a crib quilt top for my newborn son - giant clown with balloons, etc. Took me the entire prenancy to finish it. He still has it - though it has had several new backings put on. The fabric itself is almost all disintegrated but the cross stitching is still there. I just bought a kit for a table runner I thought I'd play with. Many years ago, did a lot of embroidery and cross-stiching, then nothing - then I picked up quilting and I really love that but now I find I'd like to go back to my beginnings once again. I can do those easily in the car and when spending time with DH as he watches TV.

You all have done absolutely beautiful work!! Makes my fingers itch to get started...

I love cross-stitching also. Haven't done any since we moved 3 years ago. I was looking for something to do for my dining room, but can't seem to find something that grabs me. I didn't know there were any cross-stitch boards.

I use to do more cross stitching than I do now. but I do have a set of pillow cases and a baby quilt I'v been working on forever-the quilting has definately taken over! I like the handwork though-it's very relaxing and portable!

    Welcome to the boards!!!
