need help on triangles
I want to put a triangle on each end of a table runner and can't figure out how big to cut a square. Can someone please help me? It is 16 1/4 inches long x 43 1/8 wide. Thanks. I did the 16 1/4 x 1.414 plus 1.25 (I think that's the formula)and it comes out 24 1/4. This seems way to big to me. I need your help. Thanks.

If they are for the two ends(HSTs), then you need a 12 3/8" square cut diagonally once (2 pcs).
For side triangles (QSTs) you need a square 24 1/4" cut diagonally TWICE giving you 4 pcs.

I always cut them a bit larger. Its easier to trim your finished piece to fit than have it run too small.

Edited to add:
Formulas are as follows:
HSTs (2 halves for end cuts)
divide by 1.414 plus .875
QSTs (4 side cuts)
multiply by 1.414 plus 1.25
