Holly in South Jersey
Hello all
My new knee and I are in rehab! Yesterday I walked to and from PT with the walker, about 1000 feet!

They have a piece of equipment in pt that looks like a sewing machine, but it's an arm bike.

I will probably go home Wed, I am doing so well. I get the 29 staples out on Tues.

Thanks to Bozie for starting sew & tell!

Hi Holly, glad you're doing well. Bet you can't wait to get back home!

My outpatient PT actually does have a sewing machine...sometimes they have to "modify" things for a patient. Just recently they modified a bra for a shoulder patient!

Holly, I'm glad to hear that all went well with your knee & that you are back to walking again. I hear that PT is the most important part of getting back to normal. Be a good girl & listen to the Dr. & therapists!

GLad to hear your surgery went so well! Just make sure that the stapled area stays totally clean so it doesn't get infected! Every day will be a little better if you keep doing your PT!!!

Holly, take care. If they send you home with a machine that exercises your knee, be sure to do it just as much as they say. The knee will lock up if not exercised.

Also take care in rehab. DH Dr. doesn't believe in rehab as half of the people there come out with pneumonia, so stay healthy... Chris

Chris, my doc doesn't order the CPM machine- he said studies show it makes no difference long term.

No pneumonia here- I cough and deep breathe a lot, and I am up and down constantly.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Holly, doing the "happy dance" for you and your new knee. Glad everything is working out so well for you. I had an Aunt who had a knee replacement and she called herself " Bionic Evelyn" thanks for reminding me of that--I miss her.

Holly - you must be a very good patient - going home so soon Smile Glad your new knee is cooperating with you. So, did you think "why did I wait so long?" Seems that is all I hear from people who have had knee replacement. Good to "see" you here - thank you for the update, I was wondering about how you were getting on.

Glad you're recovering! My son used Press and Seal to wrap his knee when he showered after his surgery, kept his staples dry like a charm.

My FIL just had his second knee replacement and says his post-surgical pain is less than the arthritis he has lived with for 20 years.

Keep up the good healing!

So glad to hear you're doing well! I have knee replacement to schedule, originally was putting off for a year, until right before retirement. Well I went to the Retirement Office last week, to find out I can retire this October, can you hear me squealing?!?!?! Somehow I miscalculated about retirement possibility. So, plan now is, AFTER Branson, surgery in October, which will use up my sick time, and retire Nov 1, or perhaps, surgery in Nov and retire Dec 1...still debating...anyway, any tips on pre-surgery preparation??

Glad to hear you are doing great. I had a replacement in March and am doing great also. The most important thing is to do your exercises. I still do mine everyday and it is so nice to be pain free.
Aliquilt- my Dr. gave me exercises to do before surgery for about 6 weeks. I think that helped- also he glued my incision. I didn't have either staples or stitches. Good luck.
