The 10/19 PJ Party is for an easy striped table runner. You may or may not have the right stripes or tools in your stash and supplies to complete this. Posting requirements early to give you a chance to shop (as if we needed an excuse!) Shopping your stash or LQS may be the most difficult part of this table runner.
For approximately 45" runner - 1-1/2 yds For approximately 60" runner - 2 yds 60 degree Triangle ruler Batting, Backing, thread, sewing machine
A Word About Fabric: There are regular stripes and irregular stripes. Both will work equally as well if you can cut identical 8-1/2" strips from them. Below are examples of two regular stripes where the stripes are in identical order from either selvedge edge to the middle. By cutting your stips along the selvedge edge, you can then use the middle section for the Backing! This message has been edited. Last edited by: mcpatches,

Below are irregular stripes where each selvedge edge begins with a different stripe. These will work, too, but you will have to hunt to find identical pieces to cut for the strips. THE TWO 8-1/2" CUT MUST BE IDENTICAL TO EACH OTHER TO ACHIEVE THE CORRECT EFFECT. Note that the same stripe does not start on each selvedge edge. This message has been edited. Now for the ruler. There are many 60 degree triangle rulers on the market. Some names are Fons & Porter pyramid ruler, Marti Michell 60 degree Triangle, Creative Grids 60 degree Triangle Ruler, Clearview Triangle (same ruler used for one-block wonders) or even a triangle drawing tool that is a 60 degree triangle. If you do not have one, you can make a template from template plastic. Below is a pic of my Clearview Triangle ruler as well as a small triangle with 60 degree angle, and a diamond template with 60 degree angle you could use to make the template.

I'll have to check with Sister Sue to see if she owns the 60 degree ruler. She has a Lot of rulers at her house that we've bought for various projects. Thanks for doing this. I'm hoping to be able to attend the PJ party. Pat
That should be fine, Kelly. Just be sure to line up the snowmen stripe, leaving enough for a seam allowance, when you cut your strips (8-1/2"), and that the strips are long enough( 54" or more).

Well, May, if its 6-1/2", that would make a runner only 12" wide. A 9" ruler would make a runner about 17-1/2" across. Measure your table and see which width you like best. That's the only difference.
Mine will be more on the 9" side since I want to get a certain stripe in.

OK, Im confused PLUS I have never used a 60 degree ruler. But Isnt it the 60 degree part that we are using and not the 6 1/2 or 9 inch part? Somebody help me out here.
Thimblelady......The class I saw the teacher used a 6 1/2 X 24" ruler with the 45* and 60* lines on it to cut her strips. It worked just fine. She needed the length to keep the stripes straight for longer than 6".

Yes, Quiltbea and I viewed a demo this summer, but a step-by-step class would be great! Pulling fabrics as we speak. I got the ruler at the demo, so I am halfway there!
All cuts after the matching strips are cut are cut at a 60 degree angle. If you have a 60 degree ruler, that makes it a little easier, if you do not, you can probably use a 6"x24" ruler with the 60 degree line.

I really wanted to join the class on Fri. night, but my son is celebrating his anniverssary and has asked me to overnight watch a 6 year old boy. Oh the hardships of being a grandma. LOL We are going to make homemade applesauce after getting the apples at the orchard. Should be fun. Pat
Paus, if you use 1-1/2 yd. of fabric, it ends up about 45" long. 2 yds. will give you a 60" table runner. Each stip you cut for it is 8-1/2" wide giving you about a 17" across runner. I cut my strips a little bigger (about 91-1/4" because I wanted a black stipe in the center and on the edge.

I would love to do this one; but I must be having a mental block! I just don't see how a regular striped fabric would come out looking as great as this! Guess I'll wait til I see what everyone's looks like and then get some fabric and try.
McP, it might be a quiet well behaved party if I can't make it. I am sorry that I can't come. I bought some Take Five mini candy that I'll send on over for you to share. LOL I sure don't want my grandson to have that much sugar before bedtime while at my house. Oh no, that won't be good.
I think it might be helpful if everyone would post a before and after picture of the fabric we are using to help others visualize better. I love before and after photo's.

You can always use two different prints, one more stripey and another more scenic (edited for spelling error, duh) like your 2nd one, but closer in color families.
This is the one I chose for my first one since its a sample. Its all I could find in my stash that's long enough (1 1/2 yds). This message has been edited. Last edited by: quiltbea,
