Hello Funky Chicken block makers. Sindy has her new block up on her website: www.fatcatpatterns.com So get your block downloaded and post her photo on this thread when you have her all sewn up. And there's only one more block to go! So if you haven't yet started putting your top together.... I will pull the name of the winner of Sindy's gift on January 2, 2013. Everyone who has posted all 12 of their blocks by midnight on December 31, 2012, will be put into that drawing. On the same day, I'll post a new thread for those who have their entire quilt top put together and posts a photo of it on that thread. Those ladies will be put into a drawing for a fifty dollar gift card from her choice of shops. That lucky lady's name will be pulled on January 8, 2013. I know everyone gets really busy around the holidays, so this will give everyone an extra week to get that top together! Sometimes I laugh so hard tears run down my leg! Lois

Both of your chicks with the gingham fabric remind me of my Aunt who owned a chicken farm, she always wore an apron, gingham fabric or feedsacks.
|
Well, I had 2 days off. And I have plan on catching up on my chickens....and I did. Here's number 11.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/gracieaohio/sets/ http://sewngracefully.blogspot.com/ You've reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.
|
Here's all 11 of them. The only thing I have to do to them, is the satin stitching around them. I have 3 done with the stitching. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gracieaohio/sets/ http://sewngracefully.blogspot.com/ You've reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.

i have a question. how do u turn under those tiny pieces (comb, beak, eyes and that thingy under the chickens neck?) i'm working on the 11th block, i've done the body and that was hard, this is the first time i've tried applique. haven't done the other pieces yet. is there a trick with such small pieces to turn the fabric under and applique it? Patsy, I can't help you. I'm fusing the parts. I didn't want to do needle turn because of the problems you're facing!
|
What great looking chickies, ladies! And look how many of you are FAST this month! LOL Patsy, I think almost everyone is fusing the pieces down and doing a decorative stitch over the edges. Some are done with the blanket stitch and some with a satin stitch. Congrats, Gracie, for catching up. All your chickens look awesome. This message has been edited. I've done lots of applique in my years. This time I'm doing mine in a different manner known as replique (upside down applique) and its definitely not the same. For those doing it in needleturn applique, you can use a needle tip to turn your seams under ahead or a tiny narrow strip of emery board. Don't turn under and sew any further ahead than a half-inch ahead at a time. Hold the turned under pieces firmly in place with your left finger and thumb. Its sometimes easier to press the tiny bits along the seam line you intend, that way they are ready and bending over before you have to struggle to tuck them under. You can finger press them or use your iron. For points, I usually fold under the tip itself, then the right side is turned under it and any excess that would stick out underneath is trimmed off before proceeding around the point. For tiny beaks, I'd turn under the point first, turn under the right side, trim excesses, and then turn under the left side so the whole beak is in my hand. Take a couple of stay stitches to hold it in place if you like. Then sew it down on the pattern and remove the stay stitching. Each appliquer has the technique that works best for them and there are many. You'll find your niche eventually.

well i already appliqued the body down, so i'll try and do the rest the same way. maybe frame the block . i must say the needle turn applique i did came out pretty good for the first time doing it. but boy that is alot of work and time consuming. i think i will do the fusible way for the quilt otherwise it will take me forever to finish this quilt if i applique. Patsy p.s. there is a great video on how to do it on youtube and thats what i used to learn.

I'm trying to catch up. I've got June, July, August & September ready to be stitched. I'll be taking them with me to Magnolia to stitch there. I'm gonna try to get October done, too. Then I'll only have November to do between Magnolia and leaving for the Thanksgiving trip. Gonna be a busy month at my house. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Well, I've downloaded the pattern but can't get my blankety blank *&$@)f*)# printer to work so I can print it out. I absolute h*ate this wireless printer. Computer says its not online. Printer says it is online. Whatever, they refuse to talk to each other so I can't print a thing. Spent hours on this mess with no luck. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

That's why I don't have wireless hardware! I hate it too. Cuts birds ladies Gracie, thanks for sharing your chicks together! It's going to be a great quilt.

Here is my Nov chick.. Mom and I liked some of the same fabric this month. I have wireless printer, sometimes have to turn the computer and printer off then back on. Think I finally hooked usb to it and if don't work do the on/off and seems to see it then. They can be a pain. ![]()

So great to see all these chickies flying in to roost. Keep up the good work, ladies. I've been checking out the variety of fabrics in the sashing around all the blocks. Some of you definitely are on the wild, funky side - and I love those brights and bolds you are all using. I have my November chicken cut out and fused. Just need to do the satin stitch around all her parts. I must say that I much prefer the chickens that have those plume feathers better than the ones like this month's. But it does make a nice variety. Looking forward to seeing more November chickies. And only ONE MORE TO GO!!!!! Sometimes I laugh so hard tears run down my leg! Lois

Dani, I love your and your moms chicks! Your striped September bird is very cute

Just bringing this up to the top so more ladies will (hopefully) get their block done and posted. Wow. Only one more block to go, a little bit of sashing and a border and we're done with this top! Sometimes I laugh so hard tears run down my leg! Lois

My computer is gone kaput. I have not been able to print for a while. I think I did the first three. I hope DH or Santa will bring me a new computer. Maybe I can catch up. Are the blocks going to be available for purchase?
|
Linda, Sindy has the entire 12 blocks for sale on her site. Did you write a nice letter to Santa?? And I hear he really likes cookies. LOL Sometimes I laugh so hard tears run down my leg! Lois

Mine is to be a Christmas gift, so need to get it done as soon as possible to get mailed in time, BUT it's going to be very hard to watch these birds fly out the door! I was cleaning house yesterday and was cleaning out a closet (so I could hide more quilting fabric) and there was an extension cord that had just been haphazardly thrown in the floor. I Threw the extension cord out of the closet to put it where it belonged later. Later I stepped over the cord to keep from slipping on it. When my foot touched the floor on the other side the pain in my back was unbearable. I went to the Dr this morning. After a decadron shot and other good stuff. Wala!!! My letter to Sante!!! Happy Holidays!!!!!!This message has been edited. Last edited by: warm buns,
