Sure, you go fabric shopping and grab a couple of FQ's....and they sit and sit, never to see the light of day. Quilty, as charged!
In an effort convert that collection (or mountain, in my case!) of fat quarters, how about a swap of 10" squares? These would the same fabric guidelines as we usually use for my other swaps-washed, no solids, etc.
Since we are using FQ's, you wouldn't have the normal "set" amount. That's okay. Each set would be 10-10" squares of various prints, but you cannot use the SAME print in another set. For instance, if you had a piece of yardage, you would be able to get 10 pieces out of the same fabric, while using FQ's you would have to cut into ten different FQ's to get one set. If this isn't clear as mud, just let me know.
Of course, Owie, you can use whatever fabric you currently have. It's just a lot of us buy those token FQ's without a thought of what we will do with them. I'm all for using what I have in stash, whatever it is, and USING it for quilts instead of storing it. Besides, the more fabrics I cut into shapes the more room I have in my fabric cabinets (for MORE yardage!)
I'm trying to wade thru the mud.... I LOVE this idea.. Question to pull me out of the mire: 1 set will be mixed fabrics 10 inch squares? or 1 set will be one fabric of 10 inch squares? Thanks Oh, I like all the choices This message has been edited. Last edited by: califshrimp,

Either way is correct for THIS swap. If the ladies use only FQ's, you can only get one 10" square out of that, but if you would like to use yardage, you can only send ONE set (10 pieces) of the SAME fabric. Okie dokie?
stashbusters is my first choice but I would also be up for dark prints in addition to that. That would really "bust my stash" - at least make a little dent

There is no reason why we can't do two themes for our first swap. I just wanted to stir some interest and get the old brain cells cooking! These squares would be great for the 10-minute quilt block or twister pattern. And, of course, you can trim down to a smaller size, such as 5" squares!
This is interesting to me, I do love layer cakes. I had purchased 2 from Keepsake, but didn't know what to do with them, until I saw this tutorial from Missouri Star. http://quiltingtutorials.com/a...cake-quilt-tutorial/ I used a Holly Taylor Classics to make the first one. It is so easy to do, looks great, and I had a top in about 4 hours. (and I am a slow piecer!!! This didn't include borders, had to order more fabric to do that.) I then purchased a Papillion layer cake with extra yardage for the borders, and it made a stunning top. So I guess that where I am "on the fence" about this is, using this pattern, stashbusters would make a really scrappy quilt or florals would work too, but I would like a real mix of either set of the fabrics. Does that make sense? When you buy a layer cake you do get duplicates sometimes, and it is hard to get the placement right. Here is my first one.
I voted for stashbusters, but have always wanted to do one of those floral quilts. I've seen a couple variations and they are all beautiful--guess it's hard to go wrong with flowers!!
OK, the mud is clear now.... I'd love any of the swaps or ALL of the swaps! : KC: would love to know where you got the pattern for your Mother's quilt. Thanks. This message has been edited. Last edited by: califshrimp,

Well, it actually started as Tuesday's Flower Club and ended as the flower bed quilt! It was supposed to be a snuggler for mom's couch in her office and finished up as a king-size bedspread (and some!).
Be aware that it has many tiny half square triangles in the quilt. I used the Thangles papers to do mine without stretching on the bias. You can just use the 10" squares and simple strip sashing with a cornerstone to make it easier and a snap to make. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KC1930,
I am sooooo weak. I already voted for tone on tone, because it will help with projects I am already collecting for. But then ya had to go and mention florals and post that tempting picture.... What would the time frame be?
Looks tempting, but it appears that this summer is going to be even busier than I anticipated. Will have to pass on this one, but I hope to see pictures of your lovely creations!
But, I have a lot of yardage, so would love to take 10" off of several for a swap of stash. I want to try the double layer cake pattern that Sara spoke of.
Thanks KC for organizing such fun swaps!
