Has anyone used these side threading needles? I like the idea of how easy they are to thread.

I just saw the ad at the top of the main board. I'd love to know if they stay threaded.

I haven't seen these ones. I have tried the ones that have a small opening at the top. I never had problems with them not staying threaded, but it did kill my finger when trying to push the needle into fabric. (it had a groove in the top where you would lay the thread and then tug it into the eye). I'm sure these ones are better.

Hi, my name is Pam Turner and I invented the Spiral Eye Side Threading Needle you have been writing about. The one with the top opening was invented in 1850 and has never worked well, but technology had not found a better way until I did it. Mine do not shred your thread or come out when you sew. I am coming up with new sizes all of the time. My website is www.SpiralEyeNeedles.com

This is spooky. I just noticed an advertisement for strange looking needles at the top of the page and now here's a thread about them.

I had never heard of them but will probably give them a try. I do have some of the ones with the slit in the top that I sometimes use to bury the ends of threads when machine quilting or short ends of embroidery floss in cross stitching. The opening in the side sounds like a much better idea. Smile

Missed the ad but visited the website. It would be great if there were machine needles that were easier to thread. I guess I should get me a magnifying glass to thread the machine on my frame. I have no problem threading my machine on my sewing table.

Welcome Spiral Eye Needles.

I had an opportunity to see this in action this summer at the MN State Fair - I couldn't come back to pick up the needles as DD had a meltdown near the end (planned to buy it before we left for the day). NOTE TO SELF: buy right away instead of at the end of the day even though it means carrying it around all day Smile

I seen the ad at the top of the page and it got my attention, because I hat, hate trying to thread needles. My eyes are not good and I struggle with this. I have even at times sit forever trying to thread a needle before I figure out I trying to thread the wrong end. It's sometimes tough to see which end the eye is on for me. I thought 10$ was a bit high for 2 needles but if they worked well and are easy to thread. I would probably treat them like they were gold. So I would just have to look at it like I was paying 10 for 2 gold needles then I wouldn't feel like such a tight wad.

Even with this spiral, I'll still have trouble seeing that eye on #10 beading needle. LOL! Thanks, hoping it is soon. Libby

Looks like a lovely idea, and would save lotsa time. I need to find a thimble I can use properly, instead of having a dish of them that collects dust Roll Eyes

I am glad so many of you are interested in my solution to the age old problem of trying to get a limp piece of thread into a hole you cannot see. I will be at the Origianl Sewing and Quilt show at the Minneapolis Convention Center should you be in the area stop in and say hi.

Currently I am only available at events and on-line. I have only been in business a short time and it takes a while to get the glitches out so things like the beading needle is in process now, but may be a few months before it is perfect. I hope to have it within a month. Right now we are perfecting a quilting needle size 8. (Couldn't get a size 10 to work yet).

Yes the price is high compared to traditional needles. But I had to reinvent the way a sewing needle is actually made. That is why no one has done it before. Needle manufacturing is a well guarded secret kept overseas and the industry didn't think the sewing market needed a better easy to thread needle and worried they wouldn't get their return on investment to retool their equipment. I am trying to prove those men wrong. A tool for a women's traditional task is just as valuable as a newly design screw or nail.

Mine are the only needles made in the USA. Americans get paid better for their labor as opposed to those manufacturing in Asia and India. I am trying to make a change in how we view outsourcing to overseas. Buy American, creat American jobs.

If we can spend $5 for a latte that is gone in 20 minutes, $5 for something you will use to save you time for years to come, it is a cheap investment.

They are also the only ones that are made of surgical stainless steel and not plated with nickel.

I love input, suggestions and comments. Thanks, Pam
