Sew & Tell is our weekly sharing thread. Tell us what you've finished, what you're working on!

Last Sew & Tell of the year! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, Channukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, or whatever holiday you celebrate! Just a couple days left of 2012.

So what are you working on?

The recent thread about log cabin quilts got me thinking about making some sort of log cabin mini. That's still in the thinking stage but I did finish yet another mini with Sun Ray's star blocks.

Wow, Bozie, that is beautiful. I love your color choices too - Go Meeechigan! Your quilts never fail to astound me. How tiny are those four-patches? Wonderful!

I am working on a king sized flannel quilt for my DD & SIL. I have the blocks finished but have to put the sashings on and the borders. I also have a another dress cut out for my DGD that didn't get finished for Christmas. Nothing to show just yet but maybe by the end of the week. Love this thread and Bozie you always amaze me with your beautiful work.

LOL. Actually they were my high school colors. Big Grin

The four patches finish at 1/2" - 1/4" per square.

● ● ● It's amazing how quick things can change around here. One day I'm happily working on the t-shirt quilt. And then, the next day I have to put together a whole bunch of Christmas presents. No time to actually make the presents, but I had to make something. Gift bags to the rescue. Big Grin

Gracie, that scrappy quilt has pulled me in.
I've been wondering what pattern to use on all my 2 1/2" scraps, now I have an idea (well not mine exactly). It's really wonderful!

Love all the ideas I get off this board, some I've tried, others on the to-do list.

I have been working on finishing a hand quilted stamped cross stitch quilt for a friend of mine. She did the cross stitching and a long arm quilter quilted it with pink thread. She did not like it so she took it all out and I have been working on it now for over a year. I hope to finish it before 2013. Maybe by next Friday I can post a finished picture of it.

Bozie, blue and yellow combo is my favorite quilt colors and I love your mini.

The Christmas quilts and the recipients are just gorgeous!!!!!!!

All the wall hangings and baby quilt and the bags are just wonderful.

This is my favorite thread. I sure look forward to it for 2013.

Well, last Friday (12/21) my cheap Walmart Brother sewing machine (maybe 10yr old) seized up on me so Saturday on my way to work, I bought myself a new machine...I got a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 835. Big Grin It looks really nice, has a 10" harp (compared to the 6" harp on the Brother) & a "floating" FMQ foot (not one of those spring type FMQ feet). Can't wait till I have an opportunity to actually try it out Frown

● ● ● Congratulations Angela! You're going to LOVE your new machine. I have the 830. Yours should have both the spring action and the floating. Personally, I prefer the spring action over the floating.

Have fun with it!

DGD will be 2 the end of January. I've got her baby made and dressed. My ex-SIL saved my old metal baby doll bed that I gave her DD, my DN. DN returned it a couple of months ago. I've got to sand and repaint it. And...I've got to make a "mattress" for it and a doll quilt.

DS is here on his Christmas visit. He named his new dachshund Kirk. DS bought an emblem. We raided my stash for the appropriate green for a bandana. Now the aliens know that Kirk is not a red shirt and will be returning to the Enterprise. If you're a Trekkie, you understand.

Sherry I have my babydoll that is about 70 yrs old. She needs her eyes made stationary (the band broke) and a new dress but really in good shape. I've tried several times to get somebody to make her new again and they say it's simple but they never get to it. Her name is Mergatroid. I have no idea where as a small child I came up with that name.

● ● ● Last night I had a chance to work on the last challenge of the year for the Free Motion Quilting Challenge. Wasn't sure if I was going to get it done in time.

I plan to play with this one a little bit more. Going to fill in some more color. Not sure WHEN I'll get to it though. Need to get back to the T-shirt quilt.

The part that looks like a continuous rope with another continuous rope wrapped around it is really cool! Do you mark the design ahead of time or are you just skilled enough to draw it with your machine as you go? (I ask because I don't see any sign of missed marks but didn't think it was humanly possible to do something like that freehand - without an eraser.) Big Grin

● ● ● There's no way I'm that skilled, and I even used the eraser a few times to get the curves flowing. I can't draw, so I used a wave ruler to mark the inside one. The one that goes around it was all free hand.

I guess it's sort of like one of the braid border designs except that one strand has much sharper curves than the other to give the wrapping illusion. Tricky stuff. It does make a fascinating design.

Hi all....I don't think I've ever checked out the sewing boards here so I guess I would qualify as a newbie. Enjoying looking around, here's a project I just finished up for a Christmas gift. I'm trying to insert an image via my iPad and I can't see it so I'll post a link until I figure his out.

Cheers,
Ellen

I finished my snowman quilt wall hanging just before Christmas. I temporarily hung it over a picture so the top border isn't showing. I really like the way it turned out. My GD & GS are making a smaller one.

Yes, it is a pattern called "Snowman Paper Dolls" from www.going2piecesquilts.com A year or so ago I was in a snowman and snowflake 10 inch swap, I used some of the 10" squares for my background.

Thanks,

Great projects and yes I could open the link...very nice pillow!

Mollie - To the best of my memory I think I had a Mergatroid too...she had a plaid jumper dress and orange-red hair. I think I gave her to a younger cousin. I hope you can get yours to the correct optometrist Wink and get her eye problem repaired. I still have my Tiny Tears, Betsey Wetsy, and a cloth doll with plastic-type head, face, and feet...she had a bladder in her that squawked "mama" when you turned her from tummy to back. Oh...I still have Barbie, Ken, Midge, and Allen too and the clothes DM made for them.
