• • • No, no, not for me, but for ...

The Masque - see photo below.

I plan to enter this into more shows and will need a better name for it. I really do like the name, but I also want to make a series of masks and I very well can't name them all the same or just add numbers (not my thing). True, it may be years before I get around to actually making another, but just in case can you help me out?

• • • I'm drawing a blank, but as I type this something has popped into my head: Lady in Waiting

Let me explain that. While I was making it, I kept asking Dan for his opinion. During the early stages, he thought the outline of the mask shape looked like a woman. That was not my intent, but ever since he said it, that's all I could see until I added the eyes.

Can you help me name this quilt?

.

Looking at the second picture you posted, "Running Free" came to mind.

I like the name "running free" for the second also. That's the first thing that came to mind the second I saw it. I love your first mask, it looks like a sophisticated lady to me, but I'm not good at naming things.

• • • Thanks for your input ladies. Let me clarify the second photo is not another quilt. It's the same one before I added the face components to it.

Ooh, I like that Quilting Wifey. It sure made me laugh. I have to get the registration in the mail today, so I need to choose something quick. I think I may use part of that and just name it Cruella.

I can always change the name again, so keep those ideas flowing.

Hmmm, maybe the Masque of Cruella?

When we saw it at the retreat, it reminded Mother and me of an artist's pallette. Polka pallette....artist in waiting.....

The first thing that drew my attention when I saw it was the eyes-they look like cat eyes- maybe something along that line.

As EVERYBODY knows, naming things is not my thing, LOL. But I don't let that stop me sometimes. I think it is a she, it has a definitely evil look. So I would suggest Lilith or Face of Lilith.

Masq-erade. Because the eyes and designs look like a Mardi Gras mask to me.

MasKara? Mas-Kara? Mask-ara? Cause the eyes have it. Sorry,it's the end of a long day and I'm being silly.

I'm not good at names but how about "Windswept". I just know this is going to win very top honors everywhere you take it.

You say you are going to to a series of these quilts; will they be the same style? You don't want to use the Mask as the name because of the additional pieces. I looked at this and thought Feathered Mask. You could do use Mark with any other pieces just pick a specific attribute and name it that way.

When I saw the basic shape, I, too, went for something 'wind' or moving but I can't see that in the completed item.

A beautiful piece of art, jayardi.

• • • I sent the registration off, hope it gets there by Friday.

I have to tell you, I still like the original name and that is what I called it. Some of the names you all came up with were very cool. I really do like Cruella and Windswept, but I was thinking more of a jungle type scenario. The background is quilted with blades of grass (sort of).

When Bozie mentioned Lilith, my first thought (and Dan's too) was Frazier's ex-wife. Big Grin I had never heard of the mythological being. That was a very interesting read, thanks Bozie. I don't get an evil feeling from her, but she does look mean. Which is why Cruella seems to fit, plus that light streak, which was not planned whatsoever.

As for the series, I really like the background shape and want to try a few more pieces. This particular mask is not my original thought. It changed a number of times as I was trying to draw it. There were a few other variations that need to be explored when I have more time to play with it. Thanks for all your input, and hopefully I won't have to keep the next one a secret while it's in progress.

Jacky, I hope this hasn't kept you up all night. I am looking forward to hearing what you come up with. I think these names might help me create the next ones.
