Drawing lines over quilt using EQ6. Sign In/Join

Over the years, a few people have helped others deciding on how to quilt their projects. They seems to copy the photo from here, and then paint/draw white lines over the quilt to make suggestions, and then posting the quilt.

I do have EQ6, but for the life of me, I can not find out how to do that. I have a quilt I need to quilt, but I need ideas. At least with drawing on top of the quilt, but able to erase the lines, I could get an idea of how I want to quilt this project.

Any one remember or can help me. Maybe it was a different program than EQ.

thanks

I use EQ7 and one choice is to overlay stencils or embroidery. But since I have to save the drawings as jpg's to post I save them in Paint and draw the lines in that program. I like having the ability to draw them wider so they show up.

I just got this quilt sandwiched and ready to quilt but can't decide on the pattern. I thought that diagonal lines would be wonderful but after a few trials with Paint it's obviously the wrong way to stitch.

Look under Library and there's a stencil choice.

i learn something everyday on this message board. Today I taught myself. LOL After you choose the stencils you want to try out, you can put them into the top of your quilt in Layer 3 and then you can change the color of the thread from thin black to thick colors. Be sure you add the button Thread on the right side. EQ tends to really listen to their customers regarding features they want to use. Obviously lots of people like to use stencils. Under help, searn for the word stencil to help you.

Ok. I followed through add thread button, picking my thread color, thicker lines. When I try to place the stencil over the block, I get the message, "use shift + drag to set block". I tried shift, right click and shift left click, I still get the same message.

Although I did learn something new, I haven't accomplished what I wanted. Other suggestions, or should I contact EQ?

thanks for your help

This is fascinating. I have never heard of EQ. Is this available to anybody? Is there special equipment necessary to get it? Maybe I should just google EQ to learn what this is.

EQ is short for Electric Quilt software. It can do easy and intricate quilt designs. Much faster than crayolas and graph paper.

When it says shift then drag it means put your arrow on the corner of the block you want to lay the stencil. Hold the shift key down while you move your mouse to the opposite corner of the block. It will draw tge stencil design in thin black lines. Then choose Thread, chose the color, thickness you want then click inside the stencil you drew. Remember the program comes with amazing tutorials.

I got it. thank you so much for helping me. Wow!

And Lori, do check into this software program. Even though I don't quilt much, getting ideas and learning the lessons have really helped me. Check it out.

Is this a program that you have to buy. I did take a look at it, but didn't know if I had to have some special software on my computer in order to use it.

Yes, this is a software program you buy. If you like designing quilts instead of paying $10/pattern it's well worth it. I've never bought a kit quilt because I love the creativity of making mine unique. It's also very easy to copy quilts that inspire me.
