I am so excited!

A couple of years back SIL and I were antiquing/junking. I was waiting on her to pay out for her purchases...turned around and there sat two Featherweights. I hollered at her...she picked out the one she wanted, bought it, and we were on our merry way.

I didn't 'need' one. Therefore, did not want to 'waste' the money on one. SIL could not believe that I (1) showed them to her, (2) did not want one, (3) and let her get the best of the two. (She did have to buy a case though.)

I helped her find a manual online...get the machine greased and oiled. Put in a new needle. Etc. Sewed like a dream!

Then I had non-buyer's remorse!!! Okay. It passed but I was still a bit envious.

Since my DMs death, I've been thinking about what I can buy me "from her" that she would want me to have. Ring...earrings...hmmmm. Then I thought FEATHERWEIGHT when I saw luvthosequilts' post about her new Featherweight.

So...yesterday and this morning, I watched as I had the high bid on one on eBay but the reserve was not meet. Picked out machine #2 going off in 56 minutes. I watched and waited until the last seconds. Placed a bid, was high bidder, and held my breath hoping the former high bidder didn't up me by $1.

It's mine!

I called SIL. If you can believe it, she's never named hers. Roll Eyes So when mine comes in, we're going to have a formal naming ceremony complete with margaritas!

(I don't know its age yet, but it's a model 221.) Photos will follow in a week or so... Big Grin I feel like an expectant mama!

KYiS It is so GREAT that you decided to honor your mom this way.... I have been pondering what to name her...I'm going to name mine after my mom, she loved and I do mean LOVED to sew!
So my 1951 (created same yr. as moi) baby's name is Zorene! THANK YOU for making me think about this!

Sherry - congratulations. Your mom would be very happy I'm sure. I haven't named mine either - but then, I haven't used her either...guess I know it's a "she" Smile

Definitely! Mine will be named Shirley Anne...or perhaps Shirley Ruth to honor her mother too.

Online, I found a 1953 model...same year as moi. But it would've cost me twice as much so I did feel the need to be somewhat frugal. After all...I can now buy more fabric. Big Grin

A funny:

I didn't tell DH that I was buying a Featherweight. After all, I didn't know myself until 2 days before! Yesterday SIL and I decided to meet for Mexican food...of course the DHs came along. I made my announcement after we were all seated and had our drinks (tea and water...no margaritas yet). I said, "I have an announcement." Everyone looked at me. "I'm expecting." Husband looked me full in the face a bit bewildered. BIL cut his eyes at me. LOL "I bought a Featherweight on eBay and am expecting delivery in 1-2 weeks." Bwahahahaha!

Love it-I would have loved to be at that table and seen their faces!! LOL!

I just got my Featherweight back from the shop. Had her oiled and cleaned-she smells so much better!! I named her after my Mom-Helen Frances.

I want to get one of those tables and insert made just for her.

Have fun with your New "baby"!!

I'm on the downhill slope to a 59th birthday in August. (LOL I typed 49 first...memories!) I have no idea what was going through DHs head and am glad we were in a public place so it wasn't loudly vocalized...before or after I explained.

Of course he knows me well enough to know if we were going to have to be buying diapers that I would be sobbing hysterically and somebody better be finding me a tranquilizer real quick!

Congrats, great story and memories when you're sewing of your mother. Lucky there wasn't a medical emergency when you made that announcement... Big Grin

Sherry LOVE the story of "the announcement" Big Grin
Priceless! I spent a lot of time pouring over the pics of Featherweights on eBay until I found one that looked (in the pics) like one I wanted to come home many times I sat with my finger poised over the bid button at the end of the auction only to be out bid in the last second... of course I only bid in the last seconds....I didn't want to up the price before the end...most went way past my $ limit before the auction was even close to ending...
I was so happy my wait for delivery was only 4 days! Peace be on you as you await the arrival!
I am not really a searcher on eBay so it was a fun experience.

Shipping was stated in 6-9 days. And I bought on Friday so don't expect it to go out until Monday at the earliest. So...I'm telling myself 1-2 weeks so I won't get too antsy. Riiight!

KYIS, I got my baby on e-bay as well. It took tons of trys to get one in my price range. Dolly has a few worn spots but she purrs like a kitten. This past weekend was the first time I really gave her a good workout. I learned to sew on a featherweight and it was really fun to sew on one again. I was amazed I remembered how to thread it and how to wind a bobbin without looking it up in the directions. Have fun with your new baby.

Sherry also leave a plastic bag if you don't have a protected area for USPS man to leave your baby.

Pickup would be 50 miles away. Frown Next time I will have delivery made at my job!

I have to go to the dentist in Paris ooo-la-la! tomorrow. DH said if it hadn't been delivered by the time I had to leave town (1:45), that he'd stay home and wait on it for me. And I know how badly he wants to eat at Capize's.

Okay. I confess. Paris TEXAS!
