Funny story about the quilted scarfs I made |

Some of you may remember that I made some quilted scarfs for the gals in the office this year for Christmas. Well, one of the gals (who I work directly with & who I dearly love) told me today that she is using hers for a table runner during the holidays & then will wear it as a scarf later. Talk about "dual purpose"...that's great. I just had to laugh when I heard that & she says everyone who sees it on her table just loves it. She said it looks beautiful as a runner. I made them out of batiks & put that beaded trim on the ends. Here's a pic of one of them. Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.

That's a pretty cool twofer or dual-purpose use. I love it and they are so pretty... May "In Michigan"

fun! i like the beads. i made a scarf for a girl at work who doesn't have much, including brains, lol. let's just say she is an odd one. i matched it perfectly with her coat. i gave to her and waved my hand when she asked how much i wanted for it. i said, oh nothing, because u figure it is made out of scraps. two days later she said, "oh, you know that scarf you made me?", i said, hmmm yah....she said "well my cat ripped it to shreads, i can't leave anything out". i was pretty angry but didn't say so; more angry that she actually told me her cat did it. i would have never known becuz i don't see her come or go to work. the gal that sits next to her said to me "that will teach you not to be nice to her" lol.

Well, Nikki, I'd say your co-worker is a pretty smart lady. It is a beautiful scarf for either table or person. mandy.....O! M! G!!!!!I have to ask if she is blonde? I really don't think a blonde could be that...whatever.

The scarf is so great! Asking for permission to shamelessly copy your idea -- right down to the trim

KQ, of course you can copy my idea. I found the trim in Jo-Ann's over in the drapery fabric department. I put flannel on the back side. It finished out just under 6" wide & I made it 60" long. Below is a link to the instructions. We learned how to make these in one of the Friday Night P.J. Parties a couple of years ago. https://docs.google.com/folder...MmYtMWM0MmI4NTBjZjYx Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.

Nice scarves Nik. Don't you just love it when a handmade gift is truly appreciated. I hate to see anything put away in a drawer, never to see the light of day again - or used as a cat toy! Sorry Mandy! BTW - I was just given a scarf for Xmas from a UK relative. I know things are more expensive over there but the price tag was left on and it was approx $36. Velour on one side, silky the other. No embellishments. Look at the money you saved! Happy New Year Joan

I loved the first one you made!! Looked for the multi-colored bead embellishment at our JA's but there was none so I had to make do with different beading on the one I did for my DGD last year...I may just look again.

What a striking scarf to either wear or decorate with. Talk about thinking outside the box! piney
|
Thank you for the how-to info. Really do love your scarf!
|
nothing like dual purpose. i sent a friend a bed runner and she said thanks for the table runner. it can be used for both but i thought i sent a note with it. perhaps i forgot.

For a wedding present once I gave the couple some romantic crystal candle holders that were kind of pear shaped at the bottom that fluted out at the top. I'm sure they said candle holders on the box. She sent me a thank you note for the lovely wine glasses. They probably could have been used for a flower vase too. hahahaha! "It's bad to supress laughter. This scarf/table runner is gorgeous Nicki!!! It also reminds me of the long scarves our Presbyerian pastors wear when they are in their official robes...black robe with thin long white scarves that hang around their neck and down the sides on the front. Our new young, full of life pastor just wore his tartan scarf with his a couple of weeks ago. That looks like a three-fer to me! Ecumenical Robe Scarf. ***This message has been edited.
