I have some drapery fabric only a small piece that I wanted to use. But it is musty smelling. It is not washable, shall I toss it? I tried putting it in the dryer with a wet towel and fabric sheet also hung it out in the cool weather overnight.

I'd Try to wash it before I tossed it out. I always wash my 'dry clean only' items on delicate & then hang them to dry.

If you are going to throw it out there is no harm in washing it. If the musty smell doesn't come out you haven't lost anything.

Can you hang them on the line in the sunshine?

If not, try crumpling up several sheets of newspaper and putting them in a carton with the drapes. It might help after a few days.

Try washing it in cool water with vinegar. Let is soak for a few minutes, then rinse and roll up in a towel and squeeze water out. Air dry.
If it doesn't come out, then you won't have lost anything.

You can also use charcoal, similar to the newspaper trick. Maybe even a box of baking soda to help take out the smell.

Good ideas, I will try washing it as you said I have nothing to loose. No sun here this time of year lots of cool damp air and this has not helped hanging it on the porch.

Toryam, My friend and I started (well we started in Oregon) but in your town for the state to state yard sale 2 years ago in May. What fun we had.

I suggest the sun also she can move mountains. No really that's what I do.

Spray with Febreze

I let the fabric soak in cold water and white vinegar. Still has a teeny tiny smell. I ironed it and it seems to be much better. I am working on some other fabric and will come back to this tomorrow for another sniff test. hey I may even through it in the washer with soap if it still is unacceptable to my nose.
