Quiltslots, I try to leave about 1/4" - 3/8" past the the white or holes...

Sometimes I use the scissors but can also use your rotary cutter.

Do you have a piece of scrap paper handy? I use it when I'm applying the glue stick to the back of the selvage strip {so it doesn't get all over my table}.

Take a small strip of selvage and lay it wrong side up on the scrap paper and apply glue stick to it...have your muslin laying on the waxpaper so the ends of the glued strip doesn't get on your table.

Yummmy dipps...thanks!

Now lay the glued side on the corner of your muslin...kind of eyeball it so that it is at the right angle.

Notice I have a larger selvage laying the opposite way in the very corner....

I try not to have the same color writing next to each other...but sometimes ya just can't help it though!

I've been colecting slevages & friends have been saving them for me as well so my bag is getting big! Big Grin

Hi Smile no selvadges here, but I have pples and peanut butter and fresh baked brownies to share.

gonna watch Lynne, and start collecting my selvadges again, I was going to cut some from unused fabric, but was afraid I'd need to know the name of fabric if I ran short for a project..

OK! Quiltslots... here's what ya do next...

Carefully peel it off the wax paper and turn it over so you can trim off the excess selvages that are hanging over the edge of muslin...I use my scissors for this part...just cut off to the muslin {w/o cutting the muslin}

Then take it to your ironing board and press the muslin side. It helps the glue dry so you aren't sewing thru wet glue, k?

I didn't trim off the excess in this pick but it helps to cut it off b4 ya iron so the glue doesn't get on your iron...AMHIK! :/

I will pull out some ribbon later and give it a go Lynne...I love chocolate covered rasins...but my son is allergic to the sulphur they dip the fruit in, so unless it states organic or no sulphur..I don't bring it in the house but DH and I love it...sometimes I wonder if his allergies might be result of him being a preemie or just all of the additves they use today

Patty, you use the wax paper to lay your muslin on when glueing down the selvages so that the excess glued ends {of the selvages} doesn't get on your work surface.

I'm following you so far Lynne, I've used glue instead of fusible if I was out for my hexagon coasters too...and a dry iron does help dry the glue relly quick...jamming up your machine and needle with wet glue is a pain to clean...I know this too well Razz

After you have the muslin ironed and the glue is dry, take it to your cutting mat and trim it to 10.5" x 8.5". I usually have the selvages side up for this.

Then zig-zag the edges w/ a narrow stitch!

Hanging head in shame...I forgot...and I'm so tired I can barely hold my eyes open...I read until 1 a.m. this morning then woke early and read another chapter before getting out of bed.

I've already brushed my teeth so can't eat any chocolate anything. RATS!

Oooh! Sewn on the diagonal so short pieces will work. Big Grin Great!

Sorry to be a party pooper but since I can't have any chocolate...Wink and can barely keep the peepers open...I'll catch this tomorrow after the Jefferson quilt show.

NOW, you can zig-zag the edges but check to make sure all of your selvage edges are sewn down...check on the back {muslin} side!

Oh drats Lynne...sorry...I think you could have just edited maybe

I'll sit here and eat brownies and try not to be too disruptive...but sad to say I was rarely teachers pet in school cause I couldn't be quiet...

funny...everyone keeps saying my son is just like his dad...but oddly he ended up being moved all over the room last year at school, then in front of the teachers desk...cause he couldn't be quiet either... Razz

I have the same question as SH, are the strips sewn down at any time? It looks as if they are on your picture.

Trish, I did delete a few posts cause they were out of order... {hanging head in embarrassment here}.

HEY Paus, glad you could join in!

After you have your selvages sewn down & the edges zig-zagged take it to your iron and iron down 1/4" on the long side. Check to be sure that your writing on the selvages is going the way you want cause this will be the TOP of you bottle cover!
