Happy June!! We are halfway ladies!!
WELCOME TO THE 2012 HGTV FORUM BLOCK OF THE MONTH!
The theme this year is MAKE IT YOUR OWN!!!
ivy_cottage (Camilla) and I (CBQ, Little Red Hen) are 'egg'-cited and thrilled to be working with you on the BOM this year!
You are not swapping, exchanging or anything else, just make the blocks we suggest every month, show us a photo of your work, and be entered into a drawing for a wonderful prize. ALL board members are welcome to join us!
SEW ... each month, we will be doing a block from Quilter's Cache. We will also reveal some smaller blocks that you can make and join to your 12 inch block.
Credit: Marcia Hohn has graciously said we can use blocks from The Quilter's Cache again this year. Please read her Terms and Conditions at: http://www.quilterscache.com/. And follow the below guideline. "Should photographs of items made from Original designs be posted on your group website, they should also be clearly marked with the name of the pattern As I have it named, and that it is from The Quilter's Cache/Marcia Hohn." (Since you'll post your pictures in this thread, you will be covered by that statement.)
The smaller blocks are totally optional~ you can make what we suggest, make something else, or not make any at all! Make it your own!
This year we will challenge you to stretch your skills, ideas and creativity, while sewing and even trying new block patterns as well as methods. We are here to help! Use this thread to post your questions, problems anything related to the BOM~ and we will try to answer them for you.
One other important note~ we are NOT presenting you the blocks in any order. January's block will not go in the upper left hand corner of your quilt! Just to mix things up we are presenting them in no particular order, but if you join us for the year, in December we will reveal the layout we have chosen.
Now ... without further clucking ... HERE'S the JUNE BLOCK ~~
Step 2~ the mini blocks will be posted below this post~~
SO Y'ALL COME ON AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!
AND DON'T FORGET TO POST THOSE PICS WE LOVE PICS!
NOTE: If you have trouble posting pictures, or have a challenge with resizing them to post, you can SEND THEM TO ONE OF US VIA EMAIL, and we will BE HAPPY to resize them and post for you !!!

HGTV BOM! I'm SEW 'EGG'-cited!!
Step 2~ the surrounding blocks~
Sashing~ Cut 2.5 inch strips. Two are cut at 12.5 inches, and two are cut at 16.5 inches. Sew to block.
Large Flying Geese
Make them the same way you made the small flying geese in the block, but use~
6.5 inch rectangles
and two 3.5 inch squares for each 'goose'
Cut 1.5 inch squares for the little strip~ 3 dark and 3 light.
***Sew together and save the cut off HST's~ you will be that much farther ahead next month ****
Small 4 patch blocks
I cut a 1.5 by 3.25 inch strip of a dark and and light sewed them together, pressed to the dark. Cut off two 1.5 inch segments (you will have just a scant bit of waste for accuracy) and pieced individual 4 patch blocks. You need 12 blocks. They should measure 2.5 inches.
Alternate the 4 patch blocks with 12~ 2.5 inch squares. This section will measure 6.5 x 16.5 inches. Add it to your block first, then add the flying geese row.
And that's it! Pretty easy month, wouldn't you agree?

Great block chickies
Didn't I tell you last month I don't like those tiny pieces?
Where oh where will I put my little splash of color this month??????
Keep calm and carry on
Life is good!!!
In God We Trust
I printed out the directions for Patty j and me. we got togehter to try to do the Bear applique for Patty j DH. we need to rework several pieces of the Bear. Should get it done by next week. I will try my BOM this weekend. LOL. Sue
Arghhh!! What happened to the printer friendly version...I can barely see the tiny print Looks like I'd better get out my magnifying glass.
I realized recently that I made the wrong Jacob's Ladder blocks for the small blocks for one of the months....the one I did was more complicated than the one shown. Boy did I feel dumb I went on "memory" and obviously that was off. So now I try to print off the instructions with the picture and bring it downstairs to refer to.
I took the day off from housework, gardening, cooking, barn chores and.....
Made up the June block Yah!!! If I dont sew these early in the month, I just dont seem to get to it. (still have not STARTED April's Block, ugh...)
eta: No design wall - it has been taken over by a row robin. This message has been edited. Last edited by: DJBrown,
Pwife...Congratulations! So happy for her...and you!
DJB...Your block is lovely! And already done!!
Wow PFwife, what a fun event! We would love to see a photo of the beautiful bride.
Great block DJ! I just love your colors.
and I drew the name for May~~
are you ready?
I will get your squishie to you soon!!
Thank you very much- I like all the small blocks- it would certainly be a learning tool for beginners. Keep up the good work.
WOW congrats SDgranny! Enjoy your squishie
Congratulations SDgranny. I have my June block done. I just need to do a final press and take a picture of it.
Ivy and CBQ, thank you again for all of your efforts so that the rest of us can all play! You are appreciated!
Congrat's SDGranny- enjoy the prize. The blocks are looking great for June. I hope to get mine started this week, but will have to see what other projects will need to be done. LOL. Sue
Here is my June block.I really think this is going to be my favorite quilt.
DJ and Becky, beautiful blocks!
I don't know when I'm going to make this one. I'm off to France in a few dayss and will be back June 24th.
Becky, your quilt is beautiful and I look forward to seeing your quilt when it is completed. We are half way there. Anael, I hope you have a great trip and enjoy the sights. Sue
Your block is beautiful Becky. Anael- have a fun vacation in France
I made my block different on purpose. I saw some of the blocks that Marcia had for examples and really liked how the star showed up with the dark in the middle, so that's what I decided to do.
I completed my Asian Block- enjoyed working with this pattern. Sue
Sister Sue and PattyJ, like your blocks, might have to copy you
I was thinking about making a big quilt with the blocks with the dark in the middle. It looked so neat, but with all those little pieces and all those seams, I thought it might be hard to quilt.
I tried to copy and paste what it looks like with a set of 6 blocks together with the dark in the middle, but I can't move it over here. Maybe DH will have time to help me, It is really neat looking.
ETA: this is from Marcia Hohns site where they show examples of other blocks they made. This message has been edited. Last edited by: patty j,
I did say that I would post a picture of my June block.
Handie Ann WOW! Beautiful block.
Patti That would make a beautiful quilt. I love how you get a second block from it.
Ah, nice blocks ladies. Just got back from 2 weeks of camping and riding. Copied the block instructions so now to find time to do May and June. Think it might be awhile. sigh!
Patty, Sister Sue and Handi...LOVE your blocks! Don't they look great??!!
Becky from NY...just went back through pix and realized I missed yours...I really like the way you made the center dark.
Gorgeous blocks so far and I love the variations.
Rec'd my beautiful fat quarter yesterday. It will fit perfectly with my autumn theme. Thanks chickies!!
Here is my June block. I lost the points on the flying geese when I sewed that piece to the main block.....may redo it.
I have all the inner pieces for the main block ready to sew into rows...whew! I wish I would have picked a darker fabric to go with the background - I haven't gotten my sewing table retrofitted to the Janome yet so I'm using the acrylic table that came with it. Thee is a gap betwen the acrylic and the machine bed....sewing multiple flying geese leaving the main part behind. You'd think I'd learn after the first one I have got to find someone to fix my table very soon, I don't like sewing on it this way.
Here is my first June block. Am working on the smaller blocks for the second block.
STinMT...isn't that just the cutest block! Your quilts are really going to be wonderful!
Chlynn...your R-W-B block is very nice...crisp and fresh looking. This will be a wonderful quilt!
Ladies, all the blocks look great. I really like this block. Will do the sashing and the sides and post pictures.
Everyone's blocks are looking great and hope to see more as the days go by. I did a second block, but reversed the light and dark. Like Patty j posted with the brown and white. I am thinking of making a quilt with the Green Asian fabric to see how that would look. Will post my block after I get a few more done to see if I really like it. Sue
Here is my second block.
