I am planning a trip to see some family close to Paducah. How long does it take to see the Museum and are there other interesting places to see? Cannot make the quilt show but will be there 2 weeks later. Would appreciate any recommendations , thanks.

It depends on whether you take the time to read about each quilt on display. Allow a couple of hours if you can. If it takes less, you will be fine. Would hate for you to have to be rushing through it. ETA: While in the musuem area, go to Carol Bryer Fallert's Studio! Also near her studio are some nice shops. The area is having a comeback. There are the murals on the flood wall. There is a history museum downtown. Think on Kentucky Ave. It is near the Finkle Bldg. Called Market Musuem. Not sure of the hours. Hanc* cks of Paducah is a must see in mho. Eleanor Burns has a store on 4th street and think maybe another location. Didn't know if other location was just for quilt week or not. Some nice shops in the downtown area. Patty's 1880's Settlement out at Grand Rivers. If kids are with you, they may like the Superman statue in Metropolis, ILL. Not sure of the spelling. It is just over the river from Paducah, about 6 miles. If you like catfish, be sure to go to The Catfish Kitchen. Out a little ways, but worth the trip. If you want baked, call ahead. Another good place to eat is the Willow Pond. Near the Super8 Motel. Can't find the booklet that they gave us at the show. Check with tourist bureau. It is a very pretty area. Have fun. Let us know about your trip. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Strings, Strings Friends divide our sorrows and multiply our joys.

The Quilt Museum will take a couple of hours. Agree with Strings on everything else. I do think the Hanc*ocks of Paducah store is closed on Mondays (maybe Sunday too?) and holidays so check their days and hours against what day you will be there.

I agree with everything already said. Here are the hours for Hanc ocks, copied from their website: Monday: 8am – 5:30pm Tuesday: 8am – 5:30pm Wednesday: 8am – 5:30pm Thursday: 8am – 5:30pm Friday: 8am – 5:30pm Saturday: 9am – 3pm Sunday: Closed Eleanor Burns' second location was only during the quilt show but her shop is nice even if it's not very large. There is a nice quilt shop in nearby Mayfield that I really like, partly because the prices aren't as high as many places. The name is Backyard Fabric. I don't think they have a website but they do have a facebook page. If you like "Branson style" entertainment, checkout the Badgett Theater schedule here. Have fun!

I don't have any specific things to tell you to do in Paducah because I haven't lived there in a long time. There are lots of antique shops downtown and of course Eleanor Burns and Carol Fallert's places are always open. You can check the quilting museum web for classes they have. There are also summer festival events every Friday night with music and food downtown. If you or your husband likes to fish or boat, check out Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake. You can find things to do under Western Kentucky waterways online; there are lots of small towns that have different fests going on. There is also a Kentucky Opry near the Catfish Kitchen we went to if you like country music. The above is from a friend who used to live there. Check out some of the classes at the museum and at the Bryerpatch, Carol Bryer Fallert's Studio. It is near the museum. Let us know what all you got to do while there. Have a great time.
