Now that I've figured out how to post pictures, I'd like to share a picture of my Stack and Whack quilt that won Grand Champion and Sweepstakes at our county fair last year. The crystal bowl pictured on the left side, was the sweepstake prize.

This turned out to be a very special quilt to me. I call it my "Cancer quilt". We had a local shop owner do a workshop for our quilt guild, and she taught us how to do this pattern. She taught the class in Oct. and succumbed to cancer in Dec.

Fast forward to Jan., my Mom is diagnosed with cancer, and in the hospital. I hurriedly quilted and bound the quilt, so I could work on the binding while sitting with her at the hospital. She lost her 8 week fight at the end of Feb.

I feel I had a couple of Angels helping me to win the awards!

What a great quilt and a special story behind it. I'm sorry about the death of your mother, it eases as time passes but she'll always be on your mind and there with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

A really lovely quilt, Karen. I haven't tried a Stack n'Whack yet, but quilts such as yours really make it hard to resist.

Also, good job on posting the picture. Pictures can look blurry if you enlarge them from the original size.

Where are you in Kansas?

Hello everybody, I have not posted here in many months. Just wanted to say the quilt is beautiful and I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer 2 weeks before Christmas, we have already been through chemo and radiation and as of March 31st surgery. The drs. are please with how he is doing but I need your prayers and since his sickness I have just gotten out of touch with all my quilting projects. I started a log cabin when he first got sick and I am still working on it. I will post when I finish it. Love to read all your post. Thanks for listening. Bonnie from Ky.

Karen, your quilt is beautiful and deserves all the awards. I am sorry for the loss of your mother and your teacher.

Bonnie, I am sure it has been a difficult time for you as you go through this with your DH. The quilting will be waiting, and we will be here also to keep you company if you need extra t's & p's.

Oh Karen, what a beautiful quilt and it will always hold special memories for you.
Don't worry about the fuzzy pic, perhaps the setting was wrong on your camera.
Thanks for sharing,
Margaret.

Bonnie - hope to see you a little more. Take care of yourself during this stressful time. It's easy to forget about doing that but so very important. P*rayers for your DH.

Thanks for all the nice comments, and the special notes about Mom. It was a year in Feb., and I still miss her sooo much. I don't know how many times I've wanted to pick up that phone and call her.

Wildcat Mom, I am in NW Kansas, north of Hays. Going from your screen name, I'm guessing your a KSU fan. DH is a grad., and everything is purple around here. Oldest son is a HS Junior, and is strongly thinking of going to KSU

Karen, thanks for showing us a picture of your prize winning quilt. It is gorgeous!! I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. My Mom passed away a year and a half ago from cancer. I, too, miss her terribly and many times have picked up the phone to call her. We will have fond memories of our mothers and will always miss them.
