I made a "Circle of Friends" table topper and it's a circle, now I need bias binding. I went on the net and looked for directions for a continous strip of bias binding. See next post.
PS tried free motion quilting. Turned out not too bad, Thanks Jayardi.

I cut the square, then cut on the diagonal and when I sew it together like the site said, it didn't match up so I could sew the ends together to make a nice tube. Can anyone tell me what to do next?? Thanks for your help. Pat

I know what you mean but my mind has gone blank on what to do next. I know you join or sew or do something that creates a stagger maybe Confused
so that when you cut in strips you have one long continuous one. Sorry my brain is on freezeup but I know someone will be by with the answer.

According to their instructions you need to:

Cut a square of fabric the size calculated to produce the length of binding required. Looks like you have done that step so next they say to:

Use pins to mark two opposite edges, then cut the square diagonally from one corner to the other.

Place the two pin-marked edges right sides together, raw edges aligned and triangle nubs overlapping equally at each end.

Sew the segments together with a 1/4" seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open.

(that is the next step you were wondering about. I found that by hitting the little arrow that gave the PREVIOUS info in the link above.

Hope it helps.

Maybe this will help...
What isn't working? Are the edges you are trying to sew together unequal? Did you start out with a rectangle instead of a square?

Also added for bluesnail...sizes of squares for binding needed. Smile

...love that - where did you get that pattern? and that is the good way to make bias binding all in one strip - one friend makes ALL her binding that way. (seems odd to me though) I think she's nuts.
....ps I went back to see your FMQ - looks pretty darn good ... fun, too, huh? Smile

Thanks Wildcat. Nice to have it all on one chart.

Sandie, you think she's nuts....you should see me trying to sew many strips together. Smile This way no lumpy bumpies in your binding. Gotta love that. Smile

.... I should have been more clear- she uses it on all her quilts - not just round or oval things! Still thinks she's nuts Smile Not you though .. you are not nuts .. but you will be after COF next year .. and hoarse and your sides will ache and you will need sleep and be sure to bring an extra carry along!

Thanks again for all your help---I got it finished today and my DIL came over and saw it, Loved and my son made sure I knew that she loved it. Not sure I want to give it up. But I just wanted to let you all know that it is finished and the binding went on like a dream, I was surprised at nicely it took to the curve. Pat

Pattij, so sorry I didn't see this thread in time to help you. Also sorry we didn't have enough time in class to show this technique. But thanks to Karen for posting the method. Also thanks for posting the measurements, Karen. I've got them jotted down - hope I don't lose them. LOL

Your table topper is great!

Lois, no need to worry, I used your idea to even think about making bias binding. When you mentioned that a cutting method would make a long strip and I needed bias binding I went to the web. My dog ate my hand quilting thread so I need to buy another spool so I can go to Sues' today and do more hand quilting.
The name of the pattern is "Circle of Friends" in the Runnermania book by Gathering Friends written by Katheryn Squibb and Deborah Jacobs found it at the LQS. Lots of fun runners in there. Pat
