I have several blogs I follow. Several are quilters/artists/historians whose lives revolve around quilts. One person is Bill Volckening (sp?), he can be found at www.willywonkyquilts.blogspot.com .
His blog is very informative to read. He is a collector and that has amassed quite a collection. He does a lot of research and shares that with his readers. I enjoy his blog very much.
Anyone of us that is a quilter, has been touched by a quilter, a recipient of a quilt, etc. needs to read a post he has on an article that was posted in the Chatanooga Times. Quilt is a dying art that has run its course... go read. You will be surprised what this guy has to say. It is directed towards the quilt museum housed at the University of Nebraska. I for one would love to visit that one day, also the quilts housed at the University of Michigan and the over 350 that the DAR has at their museum in Washington DC! Obviously this man is not very educated.
I would imagine they did tourist studies done before they rec their monies. Just think of the monies these quilters spend while they are in town to visit this museum.
Starry you make me scream!!! Now to go read this person's post.
eta: I think this person might be attempting to create revenue for his paper by getting some of the thousands of quilters around the world roused up. If he/she were actually legit and actually erudite, he/she would have signed his/her name!

I have made quite a few quilts so I guess I could be called a quilter, have received a few quilts from folks long gone as well as some from folks still living. I read the article and really don't see any reason to be angry, hurt, or insulted. The way I see it the person is just expressing their opinion.

Several years ago, the media decided that quilting/crafting was a non-profit making venture and removed those type shows from the TV scheduling. The claim that those endeavors were not money makers seems to have lead to the demise of many of our favorite shows.
Perhaps this writer is a few years behind the media curve. Better late than never, they say.
Just take a look at the Comments generated from this article....The writer did not even bother to sign thir name...maybe they don't know who they are either??? Probably a good thing or the author might end up SID or zig-zgged in the binding..
The writer sounds like some of my "acquaintances" who think what I do is silly, juvenile and worthless. These same people have no hobbies or creative interests themselves, so what do they know? I keep these people at arms length. Their loss.
