• • • Thought that might get your attention. Big Grin

I recently made a few COOL TIES and according to all the sources, they recommend using a ½ teaspoon of the crystals per pocket. Well, after letting them plump up, I thought they were TOO full. Besides, the little tube I bought only made about five ties. Mad

I did a little experimenting last night and it turns out I only needed a third of that for each pocket. If you let them soak for the full four hours, they plump up real nice and still have some squishy room. Wink

Now my second tube will fill 30 COOL TIES instead of five. BIG difference!

Hope this helps. I'm off to make a few more. Big Grin

Bet all the people without electricity and AC would love these too. Wonder if the wildfire firemen have something similar.

Just realized my DH might like one too. He wears a wet towel around his neck while golfing in 100+ temps. hmmmmmmmmm

What brand of crystals did you use? I went to the watersord site & they have them in 3 sizes...powder, medium & large. Will the 2# package make 30 ties? Do we get to see a picture?

• • • Nicki, I bought a one ounce tube at the State Fair a few years ago. And then another a year after that. Both were before I knew about that site.

I figure if I can get 30 ties out of one ounce of crystals, then the two pounds will make over 800. Eek Want to split a box? Big Grin

I want some of those crystals...my sweet hubby could sure use some of those while working in this heat...he remodels and builds houses...not to mention how handy they would be for fishing.

What is the name of the crystals and where can I buy them?...even smallones for Caleb at school...and most of my brother inlaws work outdoors too...I know what everyone will get for Christmas...LOL

• • • Trish, I will probably order a box this month. I can bring some with me to Branson for you.

I'm running another test right now. I want an easier method of measuring them. Working with the spoons is a pain in the b.u.t.t. I'll let you know how it goes.

I dont know if this is the same thing ...

WallyWorld.

I think I'm going to make some of these for the guys in the shop. There are about 60 guys & they work in the shop & heat all day long welding & fitting & it gets over 100 deg. in there at times. I bought some for them about 10 years ago but now I want to make some.

I'm thinking of ordering my crystals from one of these two places

• • • Nicki, I think the Watersorb would be your best price, it includes shipping. Two pounds of medium crystals for $19.95 sounds good to me.

K-mouse, I had gone to a local gardening center and they didn't have it. Recommended some other product which turned out to be NOT what I was looking for. Didn't even think to check Walmart. Thanks for the info.

Kim, how much do you have for sharing? Cost? I need to make some for the softball tournament in August.

Needlecrazy found the product at Lowe's, but thinks that Home Depot carries it also. She said it was in the garden center area.

I found SoilMoist granules at Lowe's. They were $12.97 for a one-pound bag. It comes with a scoop which I used (looks to be about a 1/4 tsp. scoop), and that was more than enough for one pocket. I will use about a half-scoop for the next ones I make.

That thing was marvelous yesterday at our pool party — it was already wet and then I kept tossing it into the ice chest.
