Googled a question about something, found a Simply Quilts link, ended up following a trail to this board, and voila. The rest is history
"I know how you turn a blanket into a quilt, Mom. You add some love to it." ~ J., 7/08, age 7
I googled nickel swap and found the board and the swap that asimplelife was hosting. Love this place!
Simply Quilts TV show
The smallest Cross in the corner is the one you put in the room.
I hope all our daily ups and downs are with needle and thread.

I was lying on couch recovering from cancer and saw Simply Quilts episode on TV, husband bought me a quilt book and fabric, the rest is history! Love this board and all the members! Ali
I actually got here from the Holiday Crafts board. I had been watching a Carol Duvall show and wanted the pattern for something that she had made on the show. I got the website address and found my pattern, and I started checking out the various boards. I was a lurker for a couple of years and finally registered for these boards in Aug. of 2003. Have made a whole lot of cyber-friends since I joined, and in 2013, I'm finally going to get to meet some of them face to face at the Harrisburg retreat.
Exactly 7 years ago tonight I became a member of this family. Happy Anniversary to me! I had been a lurker for quite a few months and was actually too chicken to jump in as I was more of an Artsy Fartsy type of quilter and not what they call a "sane" quilter. Most of you already know that I'm as Crazy as my Crazy Quilting . Anyway, I've learned alot and have made quite a few quilts with all the tips and advice I've received over the years. The friends I've made will last a ifetime. Thanks Ladies.
Guess what .. this is my 10,000th post!!!! Where did you find me?!
Congrat's on 10000!
HGTV BOM! I'm SEW 'EGG'-cited!!
BOMchicks, check out my "Winners" post
here... found u here
Like most of us, it was Simply Quilts that led me here and I've always been grateful. This board has been so helpful and friendly. It is always amazing to see the creativity of the many projects--not just quilts. You all inspire me!
Also, some years back I made the HGTV Strolling the Block BOM quilt. I am sure many of have.
I also found my way here through Simply Quilts!
Simply Quilts, of course !! I was still working when I started watching, but was determined to learn to quilt when I retired. That was stupid---waiting until I retired--but I've been here ever since and have made such good friends--"quilty" friends--nothing like them, that's for sure.
Variety & Contrast means BUY EVERYTHING
Funny I have no idea how I ended up here, other than I'm sure I was looking for a quilt related answer to something.. and silly me, thought I had to register to read the forums.. so I registered right away. Didn't put much creative thought into my board name... hoping to be able to spend a little more time here now that my kids are getting a little older and I can hopefully go back to my quilting hobby I so miss!!!!! Happy New Year!!!!!
got here from the Kay Woods message board, this site was recommended by one of the members - met Piney there before HGTV
Happy new year to each and everyone of my quilty cyber friends.
Nicki I feel honored that your 10,000 th post was on my thread. I have been tied up with baby sitting the Grands while my DD is out celebrating the new year. One down and the other one is coloring. My only consolation is that when he does go to sleep he will sleep for 12 hours straight. He has done that since he was two weeks old. If he goes to bed at 7 pm he will sleep till 7 or 7:30 am. If he goes to bed at 1:00 am he will sleep till 1pm. In between he is 90 MPH.
Simply Quilts for me too! Once I joined I realized there was a retreat in Houston. I was telling DH about it-saying "how cool is that!" His answer was "why don't you go?" I flipped out, he made my reservations for my flight that night. I went to Houston not knowing a soul and the rest is history!
Like most of you, I came here via Simply Quilts; still miss that show. I used to be involved in lots of swaps but the last two I did (many years ago), I got lots of really junky fabric so quit doing them. I do miss that part (the good fabric I received part). May give it another try sometime. Happy New Year to all!! Another Washingtonian.
It has been so many years ago, I really don't remember but, I think it was though Simply Quilts too. I had been visiting my son in Las Vegas, and I watched HGTV out there. We didn't get it yet here. So, when we did, I started watching Simply Quilts. I know it was before you had to sign in. I have had to join another time when something got messed up and I couldn't get on. My date now is 2003 but should be a lot earlier. I was a quiet peeper for quite awhile, but am glad that I got involved and have met so many great friends. Love it!
Our lives are like quilts - bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love.
I am a member because of MountainLaurel. She is my dear quilting buddy. We get in trouble together. At the quilt shop, shows and retreats. She talked all the time about all you wonderful quilters and finally got me on board. I had a bit of trouble for a while getting logged on so she signed me up for things, but now I can function on my own, mostly. Thank you Carolyn for being you.
My cable co. started carrying HGTV on New Year's Day in '96? '97? Found the website not long after that. Back then, the "Crafts" board was nothing but a long list of question titles in blue -- no graphics on the page. You responded, and your answer showed up indented under the topic. Then came the crazy years of Home Talk, an unmoderated board here where anything & everything was posted! That changed in 2002 when registration was required. I didn't sign up right away...was busy with aging parents, so hobbies went by the wayside for awhile. But even after long breaks, it's good to know the board is still here, even though SQ isn't.
I found my way back to catch up on the chatter about the retreat at magnolia park in April. .
I was actually on the bhg.com site way before this one. When we learned that were shutting down, some one "took" us all over here. This was before you had to register. I watched Simply Quilts too, but I was on here before that.
Simply Quilts & Carol Duval
Watched Simply Quilts for entertainment, only, long before I was ever on any computer. While I was tentatively feeling my way at first with the computer, fraidy cat me, clicked on Message Boards, lurked awhile, decided I wanted to try quilting--applique, specifically--and MSC, Mary, graciously gave me "private lessons". (I do miss her.)
This board opened up a whole new world for me. When I talk about it to others, they still don't get the connections and depth of a group that at first and even now, are mostly cyber friends.
Although I definitely was a big fan of Simply Quilts, I don't remember if that was what led me here. I think I just happened to come across the board while looking for the answer to a quilting question. However I got here, I'm glad!
I have never watched any quilt shows. When I started quilting I wanted to make some charity blocks, not whole tops or quilts. I searched for "charity quilt blocks" and found Sunshine quilts which operated through the forums. I haven't done much since for sunshine quilters but I have made a few blocks for other causes, and plan to do more for Sunshine quilters again this year.
I WAS LOOKING FOR A QUILT STORE IN FLORIDA I WAS GOING TO ORLANDO AND I CAME HERE AND A LOT OF INFO. THAT WAS IN 2001 AND I STILL HERE LOVE MY FRIENDS AND I LEARD A LOT I STILL NOT POST MUCH MY WRITING IS TERIBLE.
I LOVE ALL OF YOU
I found my way here by surfing and really enjoy this forum. Someone always helps you when you have a problem.
So much fabric-so little time
I stumbled upon the HGTV message boards back when I was crafting...not quilting! I took my first quilting class in 1999, but was actually piecing quilts before then. I probably had the seed planted about HGTV from the tv channel. I used to watch it when it was primarily a craft channel and not a fix your house channel.
My quilt photos...
I found this wonderful board (yes - you ladies are wonderful!) from WarmBuns. She had a machine for sale and I contacted her and got to talking to her. I didn't buy her machine, but made the bestest friend. I started out lurking and still don't post much......then again sometimes I can be chatty cathy. I am amazed every day I come here at the volumes of information and tricks to quilting I find through my cyber buddies. Marj
