I made two cute crayola holders this week. This one is for a nephew of one of my co-workers. These are so easy to make (takes about 30 minutes) & would be great for the kids to take on trips.

This one is for a daughter of one of my co-workers. They both hold 16 crayons.

Adorable, Nicki!!! Now tell me please- are those pont tail bands on the end? If so, is there a big button to hold it closed? I think I may want to start making some of these for GKs!!

Did you use a pattern? If so, I'd love to get it!

Hollie- You are up early to get this post started. Nicki- love the cranyon holder and the fabric is so colorful- great job. Sue

I made another batch of "scrub hats" for kids having surgical procedures. I try to make a variety some for girls (puffy hat with elastic around the back), some for boys (the ones with ties), fabrics suitable for different ages. Each child gets to choose one they want.

About the pattern - there isn't a commercial one. In the past I asked the person who gave it to me if it was OK to share it here. She asked me not to do that and I have honored her request. Sorry.

For years, I made ornaments for Xmas for relatives and friends until the list got too big and I ran out of ideas! Two years ago, I made table runners for our Aunts in an Xmas theme. Last year, I made them red, white and blue table runners. This year it is spring colors!

stm1804 - beautiful runners! I am a huge fan of twister quilts and have made several myself (just not this week )

• • • I've been really busy with non-quilting things lately. Mostly computer related issues and I am still trying to get all my files organized. I was/am having problems getting my photos into the computer so I never got a chance to post the final photo of the B&W I whipped up.

This was donated to the MDA Event last weekend. It was a big success and this year I had inquiries for custom orders.

Love all the projects.

stm1804... What size twister ruler did you use on these reunners? They are beautiful.

Love the table runners. How smart to make a holiday one and then spring colors. I bet they treasure them.

The black, white and red is wonderful. I love the geometric feel of it. I'm starting some black and white today for a baby quilt.

Last summer our retreat did some hst's using striped fabric. I didn't get mine together until this week. Here's the first baby blanket I made.

I used the rest of the striped hst to make another baby blanket. It's fun playing with different settings.

Then I decided to make one with pastel striped fabric.

Evelyn - those are so fun - really look 3-D!

mn_lady_us - I started with 5" squares, then used the 3 1/2 square twister ruler. I used up left over fabrics so some of the table runners are different lengths!

jayardi - love the black and white. Cool back! I always forget that you can piece the backing together!

Nice projects already this weekend. Thanks to all for sharing. Rainbow, tell the girls the dresses are really cute and I give them credit for trying to make a dress. What a fun memory you have.

Thanks, ladies. Sorry but I don't have a pattern or instructions. One of the ladies at retreat last summer showed us how to do them.
1) Buy 2 yards of striped fabric with a variety of colors and stripe widths.
2) Do NOT wash the fabric.
3) Cut the fabric lengthwise into 5" width strips.
4) Fold a strip of fabric in half right sides together. (I carefully pressed and spray starched my strips here.) Cut into 5" squares and then across one diagonal.
5) Carefully sew along the diagonal for the hst and you get 7 matching squares.
6) Carefully press the squares open. Trim the ears off the block. Any size squares should work. I chose 5" so I wouldn't waste much of my 41" width striped fabric.
7) Now is the fun part. Lay out the squares to form whatever pattern you like.
Here's one possible design that doesn't require matching like blocks:

Evelyn, those are great!!! Alot of bang for the buck! makes me want to buy some striped fabric, which I usually avoid!

Oh, I have to try that. Love the op-art effect. Any hints on keeping the stripes matched up? Thanks for sharing.

The only hint I can give you is to starch before cutting the squares and use a new cutting blade. The last seam I did (down the center) is a bit off and I may redo it before quilting. I was tired and didn't pin well enough. But I do like the effect even if the stripes don't match perfectly. I used EQ6 to try one with even stripes that are sewn off and even like the wavy lines formed.

must be the week for twisters...I made a halloween one for the top of my sofa table, have an idea for another one.

and this little "sew easy wallet" It was truly the easiest little purse I have made (after a couple of changes!) I did not like the batting in it,changed to craft bond and it is perfect and NO hand sewing except for the button!!

What a great wallet. Love the inside pocket. I haven't one like that. Those would make nice gifts.

Here's my 2nd attempt at a baby quilt for my friend. I posted the first top last week, but my DD's and their friend didn't like it. I think this one is better for a baby.

Joan I would suggest using elmer's washable school glue to keep the stripes lined up.

Sandy "Sew Easy Wallet" is from sophisti-cats design. But it appears to be available most evrywhere. I have seen it a LQS, on line, in catalogues (Clotilda) and I bought mine @ JoAnns.

Great projects everyone. I thank that salsa is beautiful. I love to decorate with colorful jars of veggies and jellies in the fall.

I get in those slumps when I dont get enough sleep Mountain Laurel. I try to force myself to go to bed early for a few nights in a row and it comes back.

My next project is getting a quilt quilted for my friend from Wisconsin who is patiently waiting on me I just know by next Friday I can post a picture of it.

I have had a busy week getting my GD settled into her college dorm.

First I covered her a bulletin board and then I made her and her roomies a cushion to go into those wooden chairs that come with their desk.
They are like sitting on a brick.

Levi likes her cushion. I put each one of their initials on the pillow. The pillow is made of orange (bright) dupioni silk and the fringe I found at Joanns for 50% off.

Here is her bulletin board.

I put rick rack on all the seams and a colorful button where they cross. She can use push pins, regular sewing pins or slip stuff under the rick rack. She loved it.

I hemmed sheers to go on all their windows and put the black out fabric behind the curtains so they can sleep late when they do not have classes.

The black out is all I have on the windows yet.
She just picked up the curtains yesterday.

Finally made myself sit long enough to finish something...this goes in the box to DS. There's still room and I hate to stuff it with packing material...maybe buy a pillow and send it with a pillowcase?

He lives 320 miles south of me and his last couple/three trips up he's been on a motorcycle...not much room to take anything back. A friend gave me her son's motorcycle rain coat that didn't sell for $10 in a garage sale. I thought it was merely a summer textile jacket and since he had one, did not buy it at the garage sale. Afterwards she brought it to my office and gave it to me to send to him. Only after I got it home and DH looked at it did we find out that it's $175 worth of rain gear... NICE gift!

Edited to add: Oh...the fabric was brought to a mini retreat in Houston...given to her by someone else's relative. I brought this home for a scrub top. There wasn't enough as you can see...that blue does match some of the blue around Taz...probably should've gone with a denim...at least the residents will be able to see him coming!

I have spent exactly 10 minutes handquilting my MDA quilt challenge quilt this week-- being back to work (teaching) has snagged all my time. Can't share though since it is a challenge!

Quilter Jen -- glad you ARE working this year!! You'll settle into a routine soon enough.

Everything is great looks great. I sewed while camping this week and made some quilt as you go row quilts for Project Linus and decorated some cloth diapers with scraps and/or odd blocks.
