A new year, a new start, a new list, lol! I am making some quilting resolutions this year.

1. reduce the number of tops hanging unfinished in my closet.

2. finish my Floribunda applique quilt (pattern was a bom from One Piece at a Time blog)

3. make a quilted beach theme shower curtain

4. Add to my pile of small quilts to hang in my tabletop stand

Those are the first ones that come to mind.

So lets have it - what are your quilty goals for 2013?

2. Quilt more! I've had a quilt in the frame for 2 years now...since I started working full time. I haven't even completed one row...I WILL finish it this year!!!

In the year 2013 I will have the following quilting goals,
Including learning to use my Christmas present tools,
Finishing the Dortmund soccer art quilt for my mom's wall,
And entering the Scraps to Treasure challenge (and finishing) it at least 36" tall.

January, February, March and May rag quilts are ready to hang,
But need to finish the rest of the year with a bang,
Need to plan for Christmas gifts starting this week,
So I am not rushing last minute, but hide them so no one will peek!

I will use up more stash and spend less on fabric and such,
And try to balance work so I can quilt more so much,
Finally I will try to make smaller quilts than last year,
And finish hand quilting at least 3 quilts so the pile doesn't cause fear!

I have so many UFOs that I shouldn't start another new thing although I already know that isn't going to happen. So, here is my list so far.

1. finish 2 UFOs a month.

2. Try not to buy a lot of fabric, as I already have more than I will use in my lifetime.

3. Do some of the kits that I bought and just loved but never got around to it.

4. Sew up my 12" kits for my table frame.

5. Sew something for Christmas gifts every month, so, that I am not sewing like crazy in December.

6. Take some time for my crazy quilting. I haven't done any in a long time.

7. Also, I need to have some electrical (Not sewing related but yet it is) work done in my sewing room, so, that I can put up my quilting frame and machine and learn how to quilt my own quilts.

How about everyone else? I know we all can make a list, but can we stick to it? I am hoping to.

My quilting goals for 2013......
1. Have someone explain in clear and uncertain terms why I should finish ufo's and not start new quilt projects.
2. Have someone explain why I shouldn't buy more fabric, especially if I see beautiful new prints.
3. Why I should quilt some of the mannnnnnny tops that are stacked up.
4. That I should get and understand the explanation.

This year I'm going to borrow someone's suggestion from last year - I wish I could remember whose it was - I think it was one of the board members whose name begins with "L" if that helps.

Anyway, she suggested using a timer and setting it for 20 minutes each day, to dedicate that time to sewing tasks. Usually when I come home from work, I can get overwhelmed with the thought of a large task, and so I don't start it. But I think I can manage 20 minutes a day.

I could have many goals, but one of them will be to reduce my stash, by using it. Try not to buy any more fabric unless it is absolutely necessary, which is all the time. LOL. Quilting with Patty J , making doll quilts and QWL quilts for 2013. Keep up with the BOM . Just to have a fun year quilting in 2013 will be my main goal. Sue

I have goals this year ... I did my goals for last year making my family quilts and the Branson retreat

This year I want to finish some of my UFOs ... reduce my ever growing stash ... learning more on the long arm ... finding out all the bells and whistles of my new friend Jenny ... making a king size quilt for my bed ... making the strip twist quilt from Bonnie Hunter (always been one of my favorites)... making some Quilts of Valor quilts, some for the Ronald McDonald House, and
SEWING JUST FOR ME! Anything I want! Just fun this year ... lotsa fun!

I always end up tidying up my sewing room at Christmas time. It doubles as my guest room and my parents come to visit. So this year, as I was trying to clean up and organize, I saw all the books and patterns that I bought in the past year and haven't even started.

So, my goal for this year is to not buy any new books or patterns. I want to work on those things that I 'just HAD to have' in 2012!

Wish me luck!

Accomplishing #1 means figuring out WHAT to make, so I need to be checking patterns & blog tutorials more.

I will steadily continue stitching an hour a day when I can sew. And I will continue using up my stash. I've reduced it down to about two containers and have made scrappy quilts for the last three years. Next one up will be using up some of the blues.

I plan on:

1) Finishing WIP's

2) Completing UFO's

3)Only buying fabric to complete one of the projects above.

4) Watch out for my enabler (Needlecrazy) as she tends to add to my WIP's and UFO list! LOL!!! (We are riding together to the COF retreat this summer, My poor van will be loaded with WIP's and UFO's coming home!)

Get back to my landscape quilts!

Here is my list:

1. Complete at least one UFO a month
2. Not buy any more fabric unless it is to complete a project
3. Keep up with the BOM
4. Use my stash, use my stash, use my stash!!!

Here's my list:

1. Spend at least 2 hours over the course of a week in my sewing area- this is for mental health - it really does work

2. Drastically reduce magazine piles

3. Start whatever I want when I want and not feel guilty for not sticking to the "plan"

4. Spend more time visiting shops finding fabrics that are crying out to live at my house.

5. All of this will bring calmness into my life - I need that! If I end up with some gifts - even better, If I don't, maybe next year

Royalboomer, I think I may have to adopt your 1st, 3rd and 4th ideas! I wonder why we attach guilt to something that we do for ourselves? You have inspired me to enjoy quilting for what it is - MY hobby!

Spent a couple hours in the sewing room this morning trying to make some sense of it! Now I know what goals to aim for in this new year:

1. Try to keep sewing area more organized.

2. Finish the BOM from this board, which was done in 2010. I have the first nine months done, and cut pieces for the Oct. block, so I have a start on this one.

3. Work in UFO's

4. Do more hand quilting, to improve my stitches.

5. Will I remember any of these goals the next time I go downstairs to sew?? Na da! It's off to another fun year of quilting and sewing, girls!

My goal is to make time to quilt WEEKLY. I haven't quilted in a couple months now and I really, really need to. It relaxes me. I have things I need to finish and things I want to try.

Have already cut way back on my fabric purchases in order to use my vast stash, so will try to stick to that for this year too. Only buy what I have an immediate use for, like flannel for baby blankets or fabric for QWL pillowcases.

Cut back on my purchases of Christmas ribbon, paper, cards and trims till I use up what I have already.

Cut back on buying quilt magazines, books, patterns, etc. unless it is SBS or log cabin related.

Use up my stash, read magazines, go thru books, reduce, reduce, reduce my craft related items.

Stay out of Joanns as much as possible, no matter how good the sale... Chris

#1 Get the 2 projects that are almost done --DONE.
#2 Get some sewing done every day. Charting on the calendar really helps keep me on target.
#3 Use my healthy stash.
#4 Finish several of my UFO's. (And of course add to them.) That goes without saying....
#5 Learn/master some new techniques.
#6 Have fun with all the above!

My goal is not to make any goals so I can do what i want to LOL.

I would love to make quilts for everyone in my family. But that is not a goal. Thats just a dream. Goal for 2013...SEW more & BUY less.

My only really serious resolution for 2013 is to finally, once and for all, get my work room cleaned out and organized. I've been doing it little by little for the past 4 years (since I moved into my current apartment), but I want to get it all finished. I have so many projects that I want to do, but I'm having some trouble finding all of the materials that I need (not just fabric). So, I will be definitely working on that organizational project first.

I already spend a LOT of time in my sewing room, but I'm not always sewing. My goal is to actually do more sewing and quilt some of the tops that are waiting patiently. And TRY not to buy so much fabric (cause I've run out of storage space!!!!).

My word for 2013 is FINISH. I'm starting the year with 78 UFOs so my goals are pretty concise.

1. Finish a UFO each week.
2. Learn how to FMQ.

Hah! I wrote goals last year and think I got a few done. I could ditto A LOT of what has already been said - but basically I want to enjoy what I do this year and not feel pressured because of deadlines.

I'm going to be different and make a goal for this week. When my girlfriend Sam died in Oct, 2011, I saved all her jeans, about 15 pair. They've been sitting folded up on my laundry room table. This weekend I cut up the side seams, and started cutting into 6 inch squares. My goal for this week is to get at least half the pile cut up.

Make a quilt for my mom and one for my dad.

Mom has loudly voiced her opinions of block quilts as boring and rather ugly, so it will be an art quilt with a western or horseback riding theme. Unfortunately, she lived near an accomplished quilter before I started quilting and her expectations are very high.

My dad and his wife would probably like an applique/pieced quilt with either beachy or musical or Christmas themes.

My goal for this year is to incorporate my skills into some money making activities. Still trying to figure out the best way to make that happen...

I have 4 tops pieced waiting for quilting and binding and one that just needs binding. I like to piece during the summer and fall --then quilt them during the winter.

I have a sampler of 6 inch blocks pieced to a very large lap, but after seeing it this far, I would like to make more blocks to increase it to a queen. Completing this quilt is another goal.

I have 2 kits that I bought last year that have not been touched and I would like to piece the tops or even finish them.

I bought a new machine last year and did quilt over 15 quilts on it. I am very comfortable quilting on it, but would like to explore other features of the machine in more depth this year. I found a nice book "Your Machines's Decorative Stitches" by Karen Linduska. This book has 14 very small projects (basically 10 inch squares and I am decreasing them to about 7 inches) that build up skills and get you to play with stitches. I plan on working through this book.

I have loads more ideas, but for now this is enough as I usually add in something else along the way! I keep a log of all my projects and their progress. It works really well. In the end, I have finished most of what I started--or stop it very early in the process (I did abandon one on line block of the week--but used most of the completed blocks in my 6 inch sampler so it really was not much of a waste at all!).

I didn't do so well at tracking the stash last year. I started out really well, but then fell off the wagon when I did the Wisconsin Shop Hop, 2 store closing sales with great deals and big purchases at the quilt expo. Overall 2012 was a GREAT quilting year for me. I had loads of fun, but need to try and curb some of those buying sprees this year! I am starting off with a clean tracking page, but it is good to go back and see which purchases I actually use! Maybe the message will sink in one of these years.

1. Continue to work on the Cathedral Window quilt still in the machine piecing stage.
2. Baste the primitive panel quilt, machine quilt and start the hand applique for the border.
3. Baste and quilt the Autumn BOM quilt.
4. Hand wash DD's beloved, filthy quiltie - do I dare? Keep the extra fabric in my stash handy and replace the hearts that desolve in the sink.
5. Begin and Finish the Hexagon Swap - nice hand project for a change - get mailed off.
6. Design a quilt for the Patriotic blocks I was given.
7. Finish the Seminole patchwork border and piece/baste/quilt the Wild Horse Quilt for F.T.E.A auction in November.
8. Find a Quilting Bee or Quilt Guild in my area.

As someone who never makes New Year's Resolutions, I decided 2013 will be the one exception.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope the holidays were not too difficult. With those jeans, slip the back pockets off the back of each pair. I machine embroider right on top of the pocket or iron-on something. You could add these little pockets all over the quilt to add individual memories/moments with Sam. (These little pockets also make great doorknob decorations.)
