Malou... that's a great idea! Also, like the idea of the cover being made out of 'strings'.
Sorry Quiltbea...the lining is the 11" x 15.5" piece of co-ordinating fabric or muslin. Finsh the short edges with a zig-zag stitch.
I just laid the notebook down on top of the cover to check the size after turning the flaps out to the front (shown in step 2). If the flaps are even with the edge of the notebook, you're good- otherwise adjust the flaps so they are even with the edges of the notebook.
Then, remove the notebook & set it aside. Keeping the flaps turned (as in the step 2 picture), lay the lining piece face down (right sides together) on the cover fabric. Pin through all layers on the 2 long edges (top & bottom edges)
Does this help any?
I am with you . I got a little behind because I was running around looking for that toffee. Think I might have gotten the last piece YUMMY
Flip the flaps to the inside & press the edges of the cover
That toffee CAN be distracting, can't it?! But oh so good!
Lens, where did you get lost? This message has been edited. Last edited by: AngelaC,
Insert your notebook into the flaps
My hubby bought a package of that white almond bark stuff at Wallies and he mixed in dried cranberries and pretzel bits and something else... maybe it was chopped almonds - YUM! It was a pretty 'bark candy' when made up. When we travel home for the holidays we're going to make it again with our family!
All done! Enjoy.
I'm sewing some buttons on for a little 'touch' before taking a picture.
WQFC said she would post the picture for me.
I should be done soon.
Very nice, Angela!!
I'd like to add a flap on the front that would Velcro onto the back...
And that's all she wrote girls! You still have time to catch some of Bonnie Hunter's Quiltcam if you're so inclined! Hope I didn't keep you all too long.
Quiltbea, I'm glad you "got it". I was afraid that might happen when I realized I was missing that one picture
Jessica, that bark sounds good, but would be even better (IMHO) with dark chocolate, not a huge fan of white chocolate.
Thank you everybody for bringing snacks, especially Malou for the toffee
Now...I wanna see pictures!!
Pretty Batik Cover, Will Quilt!
Thank you so much for the class, AngelaC! I'll post my pictures tomorrow!
Love it Jill! Thanks for showing it
Jessica, the flap is a good idea too. I think I'd sew that on after quilting, but before turning the flaps & lining.
Thanks Angela.... you did good!
Jill, I like your cover... pretty!
I emailed a photo to WQFC... she will post it soon for me. (thanks!)
If anyone needs more toffee just let me know! I've been making to give as Christmas gifts... the garage refrigerator is filled with 35 half-pound boxes!!! (Don't you wish you were here with me!!)
Oooo! I'm a Dark Chocolate-lover too!
Enjoy the sewing, everyone!
Edited to add: Thank you, Angela... I'll make a note for the flap! This message has been edited. Last edited by: jessicasews,
Thank you for doing this this class. You did a great job of teaching and presentation. Christmas is getting here so fast and this will help me get ready.
Where did I get lost? I think I started out lost trying to do this when I felt so tired. Plus my fabric was the size you gave us but my exercise book was bigger than yours. I think I will look for one of those at Walmart tomorrow & redo, salvaging what I have done so far.
Great job teaching/ hostessing this PJ party Angela. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of all the journal covers that everyone gets made thanks to your great instructions.
Thanks for the kind words about my journal. Wait until you see Malou's! Very cute!
Thank you Angela. That was a nice class.
I'll have to finish mine tomorrow. Once I got off track I fouled up a bit and have to redo part of the cover. Like I said, my mistake, not yours. I didn't get much sleep last nite and had to rise early today to get my snow tires put on before our snow this weekend so my eyes aren't cooperating either.
I'll finish this when my brain and eyes are working in sync.
You did good!
The colors a little off... the light is more of a gold.
This was fun and I will make more. I know some friends who would like one.
Thank you Angela for all the work involved showing us how to do this!
OH love em Jill and Malou.I have loop sewed on the right side done before the sides so it ends up right will do botton on left front to close.I have it now Angela,TX for the great class.I use mine for all my passwords etc: will be nice to have one that fits.
BLESSED WITH THE BEST !!!!
Got my material for my cover and will put in a pen/pencil slot. Nice cover you gals made.
Malou, I think I am going on a quick drive tomorrow, early in the a.m. Visit someone south of me who has a fridge full of toffee in her garage. Might 'borrow' a few boxes (haha).
Thanks much for the great class, Angela. Will post pics when I finish up.
Come on over Mary! I'll be home all day until about 4pm. Going out for dinner with friends... they all want their toffee for Christmas!
When you borrow something you have to return it in same condition you got it,borrow my foot !!!!!!
BLESSED WITH THE BEST !!!!
No, Thank YOU! I was worried no one would show up!
Malou, I love yours!! Colors are great & the buttons & the decorative stitch are a nice added detail.
Quiltbea, snow? Yuck! At least you'll have something to do if you're snowed in!
Len, sorry that you got off track so early...I hope you can salvage it & show us a picture soon!
Heartmania, how many will you be making for Christmas gifts?
Mary, I'm looking forward to seeing yours too!
Again, thank you all for being here!
Thanks for the offer, Malou. But too much on my plate from now till Chr*stmas.
Happy baking, sewing and candy making.
Does this hat make my butt look big?
I'm reading and eating pumpkin pie. Didn't cut any pieces...just have a spoon stuck in the pie. come on over and bring your spoon. Wondering if I can do this with oilcloth..just got some black and white checks. cute as a bug's ear.
"It's bad to supress laughter. It goes back down and spreads to your hips."
Nancy, I don't see why not. In fact, I would think it wouldn't even need batting/quilting- 'cuz, isn't oilcloth pretty thick?
What cuties these all are! The instructions were great, even though I didn't get to be here!
Will Quilt - Your notebook cover is PRETTY!
Couldn't get to your class but got it all this morning. Thank you very much- you are a good teacher. Sorry I missed the toffee but love all the covers that were finished.
So much fabric-so little time
Somehow I missed this last night, but I'm definitely going to make one. The directions look very easy. Everyone's covers are really nice and I really like the tablerunner near WQFCs journal! It's gorgeous! Did anyone else notice it?
Where's the blushing emoticon? Thanks Teddylady! Here's a picture of the entire thing.
Angela, I'm truly sorry that I hurt your feelings. Something unexpected came up last night (and it wasn't fun) I think I'll be able to make this from what I read. Your pictures are really great. I'm planning on making this for my grandaughter, she loves to Journal.
Thanks for doing this class. Again sorry I couldn't make it. Looks like it was fun and I missed the famous toffee.
Angela, THX so much for a great tutorial. I've always wanted to make one of these and you provided easy instruction. ;-)
WQFC - Your tablerunner is fabulous!
"We are all here.....because we are not all there."
Patty - I saved you some toffee!!! Sorry you had to miss. Angela made these easy and fun. It will be a snap for you!
Malou, Your notebook cover is SO pretty! It looks 'ready for gifting'!!
I am so sorry I miss out but after reading the instructions, I think I can do one. The ones that were shown are all real nice.
I am real sorry I missed the toffee.
I will never forget the night I came back to my room in Branson and started going thru my stuff and found the little box of toffee. I was a so good and I was so tired. I sat back and relaxed while it melted in my mouth. Thanks for the memory.
Love all the covers made - great job ladies!
Angela, I wasn't around last night to join your little party but I do plan on making one this weekend. Your instructions were great and I love your way of making the side slots. Thank you!
Angela, We got home way to late for the P.J. Party but I love your instructions. I'm going to make 3 of these for children of a couple of co-workers of mine for Christmas. I'll try to get them made this week-end & will post pics when they are done. Thanks for the great class!
We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.
Angela, very cute. Good instructions, I will have to try one.
Glad to see that more of you were able to stop by this morning Maybe I'lll see some more pics when I get home from work tonite (around midnight)?
Jill, here's your blush (that's : o without the space). That tablerunner is a beauty!
Patty, you know you're forgiven...I was just messin' with you a little. Hope everything is ok now.
If you've got a scrap of leftover fabric, you can make a matching pen. RSVP pens can be easily taken apart, roll fabric tightly around the ink part and put into the pen. I made a dozen journals with matching pens last week.
EvelynB, love the idea for the pen. They themselves can make nice inexspensive gifts when you have alot to give. Great way to use up stash.
Angela, Sorry I forgot and was doing another project. I can follow those directions easy enough.
All the finished notebooks look really nice!
It's nice seeing more going to give this a try! Angela's directions are do good... you'll love how they go together. Good idea with the pen!
Happy Erme, glad you enjoyed that toffee in Branson!
Jill, that table runner is just gorgeous! Loved that you gave us a good view of it.
jessica, it's already wrapped for my friend!
Hope we see more photos when you're done making one!
