Malou... that's a great idea! Also, like the idea of the cover being made out of 'strings'.

Sorry Quiltbea...the lining is the 11" x 15.5" piece of co-ordinating fabric or muslin. Finsh the short edges with a zig-zag stitch.

I just laid the notebook down on top of the cover to check the size after turning the flaps out to the front (shown in step 2). If the flaps are even with the edge of the notebook, you're good- otherwise adjust the flaps so they are even with the edges of the notebook.

Then, remove the notebook & set it aside. Keeping the flaps turned (as in the step 2 picture), lay the lining piece face down (right sides together) on the cover fabric. Pin through all layers on the 2 long edges (top & bottom edges)

Does this help any?

Thanks Angela. Yes, that's a big help. I find the older I get the more photos I need for the steps. Darn old age, my problem not yours.
You're doing a great job with these instructions.

My hubby bought a package of that white almond bark stuff at Wallies and he mixed in dried cranberries and pretzel bits and something else... maybe it was chopped almonds - YUM! It was a pretty 'bark candy' when made up. When we travel home for the holidays we're going to make it again with our family!

I'm sewing some buttons on for a little 'touch' before taking a picture.
WQFC said she would post the picture for me.
I should be done soon.

And that's all she wrote girls! You still have time to catch some of Bonnie Hunter's Quiltcam if you're so inclined! Hope I didn't keep you all too long.

Quiltbea, I'm glad you "got it". I was afraid that might happen when I realized I was missing that one picture Frown

Jessica, that bark sounds good, but would be even better (IMHO) with dark chocolate, not a huge fan of white chocolate.

Thank you everybody for bringing snacks, especially Malou for the toffee Yummy

Now...I wanna see pictures!!

Jessica, the flap is a good idea too. I think I'd sew that on after quilting, but before turning the flaps & lining.

Where did I get lost? I think I started out lost trying to do this when I felt so tired. Plus my fabric was the size you gave us but my exercise book was bigger than yours. I think I will look for one of those at Walmart tomorrow & redo, salvaging what I have done so far.

Great job teaching/ hostessing this PJ party Angela. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of all the journal covers that everyone gets made thanks to your great instructions.

Thank you Angela. That was a nice class.

I'll have to finish mine tomorrow. Once I got off track I fouled up a bit and have to redo part of the cover. Like I said, my mistake, not yours. I didn't get much sleep last nite and had to rise early today to get my snow tires put on before our snow this weekend so my eyes aren't cooperating either.
I'll finish this when my brain and eyes are working in sync. Big Grin
You did good!

Got my material for my cover and will put in a pen/pencil slot. Nice cover you gals made.

Malou, I think I am going on a quick drive tomorrow, early in the a.m. Visit someone south of me who has a fridge full of toffee in her garage. Might 'borrow' a few boxes (haha).

Thanks much for the great class, Angela. Will post pics when I finish up.

No, Thank YOU! I was worried no one would show up!

Malou, I love yours!! Colors are great & the buttons & the decorative stitch are a nice added detail.

Quiltbea, snow? Yuck! At least you'll have something to do if you're snowed in!

Len, sorry that you got off track so early...I hope you can salvage it & show us a picture soon!

Heartmania, how many will you be making for Christmas gifts?

Mary, I'm looking forward to seeing yours too!

Again, thank you all for being here! Big Grin

If you've got a scrap of leftover fabric, you can make a matching pen. RSVP pens can be easily taken apart, roll fabric tightly around the ink part and put into the pen. I made a dozen journals with matching pens last week.
