There is a quilt show I want to attend in August and thought that I would pay myself $5 for each UFO I completed, that way I can use up my stash as well as complete UFO's which have been staring me in the face. Then I will have extra cash to buy more stash.

at one time on this board.. when we were all trying to save up money for one of the retreats... lots of us.. paid ourselves.. so much per block made.. so much for top finished.. so much for quilt done.. so much for UFO done.. etc.. it was a great way to get a bit of extra money and get something done as well..

BTW... i think $5 per UFO is a little to little.. they are usually UFO'S for a reason.. lol.. if you're gonna get those done... you should pay yourself a bit more..

i hope you get lots done and put lots of money away for the quilt show.. have fun..

Great idea! Got a quilt show coming up in March. The only problem I have is I am in between projects & trying to clean out for big yard sale in April. Maybe I could pay myself a little to get THAT done!

Well, lets just say I did pay myself $5 for my PhD's!! I would be paying myself over $250 when I got my 'degree'!

And I am not kidding. : I took my sewing area apart the other day with DD's help and as I started to rearrange things, I thought, write down the projects you have on the go already, so I did.
Got myself a little clip board and paper and started to write. I kept making jokes about haveing 50 projects on the to, but, I was not sure..... by the end of that day, my list was at 48. And I laughed thinking, close, but no cigar!!

Well, in bed later that night, I was thinking..."Did I write down this? What about that???..." And by morning, my list got bigger - and when I find more (because I will... ) I am wondering if I have 60 things I have started then saw something else I 'have to do!!' and dropped that to the side to now do this 'new thing people are doing'....

So, yeah, that is my evil little habit that I am changing this year - and instead of starting, except for actul planned starts, like a class or a project with friends, my guild mystery for one, I do not want to catch myself starting ANYTHING on a whim.... like that 'really quick to make baby quilt' I found myself pulling FQ's for last night!!! UH NO!!!! So, I put them all away, gave myself heck and left the room!!!

The pattern I was looking at, I am thinking, could I make backing using this idea for my 12+ tops that need to go to the next stage of completion this year??? And thought, well, make a baby quilt and see how that goes, if you like it. NO!! That is not a good idea!!

I already have this pattern in my UFO pile, I will check out how well it would be for backing (using up stash, small pieces for a pieces back WHEN I make the actual project!!!!)

this UFO thing - needs to be taken under a wing and taught how not to get out of control...

And paying yourself for the work you do? I think what gets you to the finish line and makes you happy - GO FOR IT!!!!

I also want to share what I did with my applique society chapter last year.

We weren't getting any projects for show and tell — none for 3 months! So, I made up prize baskets to be awarded at the holiday party in December.

One ticket for any project that was finished — bound, etc. Two additional tickets if it had applique on it (after all, we are an applique group). Two additional tickets if it was donated to our charity stack.

Well, boy howdy, did people start dragging out projects and getting them done. Things that just needed binding. One lady was going to donate a boy's quilt to the charity stack. She decided to applique some cars and street designs onto it so she could get the extra tickets!

The challenge was so popular that I've continued it for this year. So, incentives are good things, ladies!

I had a few chuckles reading these responses. What a good idea the appliqué group did to get many to finish up their projects. ONWARD!
