I've been racking my brain on how to fix this! Below is a pic of what my problemlooks like. When I quilt on my machine frame, my needle is catching the thread (where the loop is)as it stitches a few more stitches. I have a Brother PQ1500s. It is equivilent to a Juki. I have changed needles, changed thread, threaded/rethreaded the machine, taken the bobbin out and reinserted, I've even tried a different bobbin. I've adjusted the tension in both the top and bobbin. I'm at wits end as to what to do next. Does anybody have any other suggestions as to what I can do to correct this problem?

Someone suggested that maybe my quilt was on the frame too tight. I backed off a little with that tension and it didn't make a difference. I'm stumped on this one....

I have a pfaff, 18.8 grandquilter and this generally happens to me when the tension is not tight enough. I know this is not helpful because you said you already tried that.

I've changed to using TopStitch 90/14 needles when quilting on my Juki. It looks like your needle is having trouble with that thick seam and my Juki doesn't like the regular needles when I hit seams. With the high speed of these machines my bobbin thread isn't always caught. Very irritating but it helps to slow down a little if this happens.

I can't get the picture to come up either.

I have a juki on a frame and the only time I've had that problem is when I've threaded something wrong. I know you've threaded and rethreaded but if you havent used it in a while it's easy to miss one little thing.

Wish I could be more help, it's so frustrating to have this happen when you're ready to go.

Good point. I hadn't used my Juki in several months and did miss a step in my rethreading last month. Watch a YouTube video and noticed my mistake. It did make a difference.

I'm still at wits end on this. I had to quit working on it. I'll try again tomorrow. I'll get with the sewing center where I bought it to see if they can help me figure it out. I'll also double check my needle size to see if that changes anything. I appreciate everyone's help!

I've changed the brand of needle and still it hangs up. Looks like I need to get with my Brother Dealer.

Any chance the top thread is getting "hooked" by the point of an open toe foot?

No...my foot isn't open. It has a plastic piece on the inside closing it in. I've even checked it for burrs and have filed it down on both sides with an emery board. I'm not sure what's going on. I wish I could get it figured out though because my work is getting backed up.

Strange. It doesn't appear as if the machine is skipping a stitch - just something is grabbing onto the thread. I know you said you checked out the foot for rough spots but I'd be tempted to try another one just in case. The only other thing I can thing of that might stick up/out is the pin feed. (I have been known to free motion quilt with mine engaged - not for long since I can feel the difference in the way the quilt moves but that might not be as noticeable with a frame.)

I went and bought a new quilting foot. I had filed the other one on the top and bottom because I thought it might have burrs that I couldn't feel. I couldn't file it inside the needle hole, so I decided this had to be what was wrong. I haven't tried it yet. I sure hope this fixes things $35 later...

Problem solved! I went and bought a new foot,but it doesn't fit my machine. I put masking tape on the top and bottom of my quilting foot (it has a plastic thing on the inside of the metal foot). I had DH drill through the hole to clean it out. We used a nail file to make sure that the drill didn't leave any burrs. I put the foot backon my machine and it worked like a charm. I'll be returning the foot that I bought. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I'm hoping I can get a refund on the foot I bought at their reccommendation. It doesn't even work with my machine! I may have to get something in place of the foot...maybe some prewound bobbins if they have to do a store credit.

So it was a burr on you regular foot? I've gone thru four fmq feet. I love quilting FAST and I think it eats at the plastic. Glad to know this.

Evelyn...yes, it was the foot. DH drilled a hole in my FM foot. He used a bit that was larger than the original hole in the plastic on the foot. It took care of whatever was snagging threads. You still have to sandpaper the top/bottom afterwards. He also took his pocketknife and spun it around both ends of the hole to remove any extra plastic. Works like a charm!

I have a round tool to make tge holes in my beads a bit larger. I wonder if it would work. My DH doesn't do tools so it's up to me. Do the Dremels have fine tips? When my Juki works it's the ideal machine. TFS

nuquiltr...It wasn't DH's idea...I asked him to help me do it. I couldn't hold the foot and work the drill at the same time, so he did the drilling and did the holding...LOL. He was out there to hang my light over my quilting frame that he gave me for my birthday. He decided that I needed two, so he's going topick up another one for me. I guess I'll keep him...LOL

Evelyn...a dremel tool would probably work just fine
