Have my great granny squares all finished and ready to put together. I loved the tutorial and the blocks were easy to put together. I used Kona white for the solid. I used scrappy yellows, the same red for each block but all the reds are different patterns, the same technique for the four in the middle. Some used sashings to put the blocks together from 2" to 2.5" wide, others did not use sashings. Here are 4 of my blocks.

Oooh texana those are beautiful. I have a crocheted granny square afghan that I made when I was in high school (full disclosure: I made the squares & my mom sewed them together - some things never change!). Making a quilted version would be great fun.
mandylifeboats. . .I did not sew them today. I made the blocks last month when I first read this blog. I cut all the white blocks needed, then laid each assembled block on some small design boards I made. I gage my time making by how long a football game lasts LOL, so it took me 2 football games to finish all eight. The blocks are pretty easy if you keep them on the design board next to your machine as you sew each row.
By the way, this blog also has a tutorial on how to make small design boards and I have made several of them , I really like the idea. I am making some to give to my roommates at Fall Quilt Retreat in a few weeks. Here is the link for the small decorated design boards so you can get an idea of what I am talking about. http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspo...-board-tutorial.html

mandylifeboats. . . I got my boards at our local WalMart $1.40 each! I cut each in half and it comes to roughly 15 x 20. The boards are in the office supply type area, pencils and such. Be sure to get the board white with white backing. I picked up my first one and did not bother to look at the back. It had a blue backing and it was more expensive

nancyc20 . . . I cut in one room and sew in 2 others LOL . As I cut, if it is a small project I make my blocks on one of the design small boards and just stack them. Many yrs ago I made design boards using odd pieces of flannel fabric. I used cut-up box cardboard for these.

well, i was so inspired by your quilts, that i decided to cut up a mary englebreit jelly roll i had forever. i also had an all-white jelly roll. i cut all my squares. now, is there a fast way to piece this, or should i make and finish each block separately? i am planning on making 20 blocks. my daughter looked at the fabric pile and said, ohhh boy, another one u won't finish.

The more I look at these excellent quilts the more I like the pattern...but in the back of my misfiring brain a voice says there is another name for this pattern....I just can't remember what it is?? Anyone else know this pattern by a different name?
