I have this wonderful book full of eye candy, " Art Charms & Jewelry" by Peggy Kryzyzewski & Christine Hansen. And in the back is a little interview with a lady that does art charm swaps kinda like we do swaps here & that got me wondering if any of you would be interested in swapping art charms?

MY DEFINITION OF ART CHARM: a little decorative tidbit you have manipulated that can be worn on a bracelet or necklace

Rules:

1. We will swap sets of ten. The 10 in each set can be the same, multiple sets must be different.

2. You have to manipulate it in some manner. It can't JUST be a charm you bought somewhere, you have to alter it, add it to something, paint it, melt it, whatever you can think of to do to it to make it YOUR creation.

3. It has to include metal, glass & fabric.

4. It has to be durable enough to wear & have a jump ring (little bitty tiny metal ring) or equivilant to hook it onto things.

5. They have to be in the mail to me NLT 28 April, which just so happens to be International Art Charm Day.

6. Please include a self-addressed envelope and enough postage to cover return postage.

7. Please have some sort of identification with each charm so we all know who made what.

ETA: Size: lets keep them smallish, maybe no more than 2 inches? -ish? (if your muse INSISTS on 2 1/2 who am I to argue, lol)

so, who wants to join me?

Craft stores = Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby sell a paper-punch looking thingy just for putting the hole for the grommet and smashing the grommet on the fabric. These are little ones like shown in one of the above photos. Gosh darn, I had one when I was making doll clothes, but passed it on to my niece. Frown

I think that I can say yes without over-committing myself. These seem so cool and I have some ideas brewing. So the use of polymer clay on the charms is ok too?

Smile

Looking forward to some fun!

Great!! Polymer clay is perfectly acceptable. My only rules are in the first post and should be considered guidelines, not all-inclusive: Metal, glass & fabric are a jumpin off point, not a stopping point.

You do not have to use grommets if u don't want to, it just needs something to hang from. That could be a simple jump ring stitched to the top or a grommet piercing the fabric or a piece of wire forming some sort of loopy piece, or a big ol' hoop earring, etc.

The important aspect is the ability to secure it to a chain or string or cord so someone can wear it.
