Hello Dreamers & Quilters,

This is the place to find instructions for the 2009 HGTV Quilt of Dreams that will be presented to the winner of the DH in Sonoma, CA.

It's a wonderful, generous project made by the HGTV mbers every year. This will be the 7th year the HGTV DH winner has received a quilt!

The people who WANT to make blocks can make them!

There doesn't need to be a set goal of how many blocks, just send what you can. It can be a little "throw" size quilt! It doesn't have to be huge. The quilt can be whatever size it turns out to be with whatever number of blocks we end up with.

You can use fabrics with grapes (purple, green, white, red), grape vines, wine bottles, wine labels; and mix them with solid fabrics of similar colors to the printed fabrics.

Since the "Rail Fence" blocks have 3 rails, the center rail can be used to put your avatar or signature on. You can use whatever color in the middle as long as your siggy shows up.

Here's the instructions for the Rail Fence Block: Easy RAIL FENCE BLOCK

Anything and everything goes! You can mix & match the little blocks or make them all be the same! We'll use them all! The center rail can be white, off white or whatever you like as long as your name/avatar shows up!

I will be checking in from time to time. Save your little blocks, so you can put other mbers names/avy's on them if you get a request and would like to help them out. Then you can send them all in at the same time. I'll be responsible for the center block.

You'll have all summer & winter to make Rail Fence blocks! Mailing Deadline will be Saturday, January 10, 2009 and will be FINAL with NO extensions. That will allow enough time to construct and complete the DQ for the 09 DH winner.

DH04 Quilt link w/My Address

When the DH MB opens back up in late December I'll repost these instructions. So, make blocks when you have the time and HAVE FUN!

Have a wonderful summer and many blessings,

SGD

Hi SGD,
Two quick question. Are each of the small little fences considered a block or the set of four small blocks put together? And... Do you want the names and/or avatars on the center post of each small one?

Judy

I would say that the set of 4 is the whole block. Marcia (quilterscache) says it's a 12inche block. JMO

Hey Judy,

Twostep is correct! The 4 little blocks (sewn together) make up one completed Rail Fence Block (12-1/2" square)!

Yes, you can put names/avy's on the center rails. You can have 4 rails with names on them if you like.

Tip: Remember to sew "SCANT" (or skinny) 1/4" seams - that way your blocks won't SHRINK too much.

Mue,
Here's a sample of what can be done! There are so many different variations of grape and grapevine fabrics. Then you can mix in solids too!

Smile So pretty SGD Smile

Don't forget to wash (pre-shrink) and press your fabric before cutting. I think a scant 1/4" is a smidge from the 1/4" and two smidges from the 1/8" Big Grin

Don't forget the carpenter's motto: "Measure Twice ~ Cut Once"

Dix you're not asleep. The QOD quilt project is only posted/discussed on THIS board when their own board is closed down for a period of time by HGTV.

Wow!! So that is it? You make that (easy) rail block and you can make as many as you want between now and January?! (using the fabric specified)

Well, if that is the case, sign me up! Big Grin
