I thought I would check quick before going to bed. I have done a little paper piercing and loved the results but it really made me think while doing it. I will give this one a try on Sunday.

Good Morning BOM friends ! I hear the sun is coming out today, but I'm staying in ... 9 in the morning is just not my idea of fun outside Here's my contribution for BOM ... I know it might look tough, but it's REALLY NOT! Like the Crazy gal said, if you just follow the directions, and just take one element at a time, it's alot easier than it looks ... and the points on this block ROCK! That's one thing about PP'g, the points are sharp and exact I've already raised all the protests my BOM friends would want to ... but seriously, even for someone like me that doesn't do PP'g, it was good And let me just say ... IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN! I'm not a paper piecer per se, but this one was good ... I was surprised at how easy it actually was ... CBQ gives excellent directions, so just follow the directions and ask questions where you need to We're looking forward to seeing all the beautiful creativity that comes out this month! C'MON .... YOU CAN DO IT ! PLEASE HELP SUPPORT MY WALK ... on my RELAY FOR LIFE PAGE Bring on the New Year ... it's MY YEAR for sewing! ![]()

Beautiful blocks ladies. I am one that likes paper piecing, but don't know about my color selections for this one.. um rwb...?? Just a point on printing the templates.. if your program doesn't print to the 1" test square. I had to change my paper size to 8 x 10" (20 x 25 metric) in order to get the right size. Still used my 8.5 x 11 paper, just printed to the smaller size. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Elainetoo,

Thanks for sharing your beautiful blocks with us. Paper Piecing!!! Not my cup of tea, but I did print out the directions. Maybe I can have Sew Happy do mine for me , see she loves paper piecing. LOL Will work on it smoetime this month. Sue
LOVE IT!!! Paper piecing is right up my alley. Can't wait to print it off and get started. Today I have to work on my Valentine PC's, but I will get to this ASAP.
BOM Chickies...nice blocks! Always so helpful to see them made up! I actually don't mind paperpiecing but am always worried about the sizing so for that sizing tip, Elainetoo, I thank you!!
I think y'all know that I am not a fan of paper piecing ... but I'd like to lay down a CHALLENGE to the BOM friends ... even if you're not a fan of paper piecing, give it a try... you might surprise yourself, and really like it Thanks for stretching ME, CBQ PLEASE HELP SUPPORT MY WALK ... on my RELAY FOR LIFE PAGE Bring on the New Year ... it's MY YEAR for sewing!

I have my instructions and patterns printed. Now to decided on colors. That's my project for this weekend. I have 4 chain blocks finished and two more started. That was all I had cut so I'll get the rest of them cut this weekend also. In order to see the rainbow, first you must endure the rain.
I just knew we had a group of paper piecer's who would like to see a PP block.
I was positive that we would have pping block this year. Now to print out the pattern and actually make it. Just a question. with the sizes of the rectangles and triangles are they sized generously or just making do? I took a pping class at LQS cut the fabric to the size they said and because I was new with that technique I didn't have an easy time making the pieces fit and it was so frustrating, I gave up.
Patty before you cut your fabric, pin it to your paper to see what will fit. I cut mine generously to be sure, but still try not to waste too much.
Thanks Patricia,,, I think I don't mind wasting a little fabric, so I'm going to make a trial and then adjust the size as needed. That way when Sue comes down I'll have it right for her. I don't like things when they are so precise that there isn't any cushion. Does that make sense??
You're correct Sue, I do like PP'g but I wouldn't want to take the fun experience away from you!! Keep calm and carry on Life is good!!! Patty (KD0ICU) In God We Trust http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j66/PattyannC/
Patty~ did you read the 'Additional Notes' in RED above? I really did try to make it easy for everyone.
Sew Happy- just had to offer the opportunity to you. LOL. I am sure I can do it, but not this weekend. Sue

LOVE IT!! Both blocks are terrific ladies! Like them both very much.
you ladies are sewwwwww cute and funny...and I have one page of this done...3 more to go...but Caleb thinks it's time for momma to play with him...lol...of course he dosen't really understand momma was already playing ~sigh It's not hard...and comes out beautiful...but I still don't like PP'ing Sue there's plenty of room with fabric, the cuts are generous " Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.. "
Not overly thrilled with PP!! Looks like it will be a challenge but I'll give it a whirl, maybe, over the weekend. I like both of the blocks shown... beautiful colors!
Well, I set aside the Valentine PC's and Did my BOM tonight. I am so happy with how it turned out. Tomorrow I will post a picture because tonight in artificial light it looks gray! It really is amythest in color, so hopefully in daylight the true color will show.
I decided not to procrastinate this month, and finished mine and 2 chain blocks after dinner, got the 2 fellas tucked into bed, and took a pic Funny how when I don't wanna do something or like doing it...i'd rather just get'er done! LOL " Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.. " ![]()

Great block! I really like the red and white Keep calm and carry on Life is good!!! Patty (KD0ICU) In God We Trust http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j66/PattyannC/

KS- you did you! I like your block and especially the red and white. Maybe that's the key when you don't like pp... just do it! I'll remember that about the middle being bulky and wonder if the Chicks have any hints on that part? Good job getting it done so fast!

Very nice KS. Like the red and white. I pulled out the fabric and printed the pattern yesterday. Have to go to the LQS today and hopefully find my background fabric. Was going to do scrappy background, but don't like what I have on hand.. we'll see what I find. The other LQS where I'm sure I can find something is a little drive, so maybe later this week a short road trip.

Kentucky your red and white block is very striking!
Trish - your block turned out great! For someone who didn't want to do it, you did it well and first!
KS, you block is very striking. see pp's isn't so bad, right? one suggestion I have is take the paper off the sections before the final assembly. it went together so much better. Now I have my picture ready. finished last night.
Thanks everyone for the compliments ohhh I just love your block Patricia Anne, Amethyst is my birthstone, and yellow is another of my favorite colors, great colors together. ETA: Although this was not hard...I still DO NOT enjoy pp'ing " Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.. "
Patricia Anne- great block and thanks for the tips. Will work on mine later this month. Sue
Kentucky and PatriciaAnne...GREAT job! Your blocks are gorgeous! Really love the red and white. I may have to do a red and white quilt some time.
Whoohoo Kentucky and Patrician Anne! Your blocks are both wonderful!! I do have a passion for red/white! I took the paper out of the seam allowances and pressed those joining seams open to reduce the bulk in the center~ ![]()
Another quick finish! Nice block Patricia Anne... I like the colors! Thanks for the tip about taking the paper off before putting the sections together. I need all the hints & tips I can get! Just saw your tip CBQ... thanks!
Hello my stitch friends! Worked a bit this morning on my Feb. block and got it finished...YEA! The background is really a sage green and the red is an Asian print that I thought looked like Chirstm@s balls so hope it all goes together in the end! Just glad it is finished! ![]()
Oh, My! Love that block with the red and black! Very nice and what a good job on it! I like seeing all the different color choices.
Ok girls I caught up with myself here is January and February Block J Lu ![]()

J Lu, this will be an impressive quilt!
J Lu, love those blocks! The black and red make for a beautiful look. Now you're all caught up until March's block... good job!
Blocks are looking good ladies. Here is mine. ![]()
Ooooh...ST....dramatic block!! I will have to go back and see your January block now...was it the one with the little embroidered flower in the center?
Beautiful blocks ladies, I too love seeing all the color choices, each one is so pretty! " Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.. "
ST- another beauty! The different colors make the block look so different. I've pulled my fabric and will try this tomorrow. It helps seeing the blocks that have been made just to get an idea for color placement. So glad we're sharing them!
![]() |
Oh, nice fabric/color selections.
Very pretty Elainetoo...isn't it interesting how different the blocks all look with different fabric colors and values? Love this part...seeing everyone's work.
