Yours is beautiful Nana and I don't have any luck posting photos either. Thankfully my friend Will Quilt for Chocolate posts them for me! We're lucky to have such nice quilting friends!

Nice block Northern Nana, glad you joined us. WCFC- hope your dentist appointment went OK. I also would rather sew than go to the dentist. Glad you were able to start your block. Sue

I was finally able to sit down in front of my sewing machine & put together my secret block- I'm very pleased with how it came out. If everything goes well, I'll get February's block together this week-end!

Happy Stitching All!

I've got 1/4 of Feb's block done. I've had a few bumps along the road, but things are going okay. I understand the basics of paperpiecing & I've made paperpiecing christmas ornaments, but this is the first time that I've joined two paperpieced sections together. I thought I had everything lined up & sewed the two, but I ended up riping that seam out & doing it again.

I thought that I had some paperpiecing paper to run thru my printer, but I can't find it so I'm using my regular printer paper. I've got a sinking feeling that it's going to be too thick as I tend to use a higher quality printer paper. I'm seriously tempted to go out & purchased a pkg. of cheaper paper just so it will be easier to take out at the end.

If anyone has any suggestions or words of advice, my ears are open.

Happy Stitching All!
Susan

Susan, I have used regular printer paper before, and when I do...I generally use a larger needle in my machine, and a smaller stitch...when I was sewing my blocks together, I found it more accurate to make sure the seams butted together and matched nicely, and didn't worry so much about the rest, and although mine isn't perfect it turned out pretty good.

Susan, I used regular printer paper for my block. I think it was CBQ who told us to cut just a bit of the paper off at the point/center to help keep that straight and it worked for me. I pinned like crazy too. I pressed my seams open and that helped, then at the center points I would nip just a bit of the tip of fabric off before pinning the next piece on to sew, to eliminate some of the bulk.
Mine is not perfect! I rarely paper piece and found this a challenge!
I hope the rest of the block goes good for you.

SusanTN, I used regular printer paper for mine too. When I sewed the sections together, I removed the paper from the seam alliance before stitching the two pieces together.

Four sleeps left before the March block shows up!
Can we make it to 20 finishers this month? Smile

Susan, sorry the bulk is giving you problems. I always buy scribble pads at the dollar store and cut them to fit my printer. Trish's suggestions for a larger needle and smaller stitch length are spot on. A walking foot helps too.
Good luck!

just stopped by here tonight for a moment and couldn't help but take a peek at the new 2013 BOM... WOW you ladies are rockin my socks off with those BEAUTIFUL paper pieced blocks!!! wow!

I'm using last year's HGTV BOM with my guild this year and tomorrow night I get to intorduce the 2nd block to them. There were 40+ sign up in January but so far just under a dozen participants have made the first blcok and shared photo with me via emial to get sneak peek at the Feb pattern. I guess I'll find out how many official "blockheads" there really are at the meeting tomorrow night. Wink Feel free to take a look at their photos on our guild's face book page. You can find us by searching Sew 'N Tell Quilt Guild.

keep on keepin on Sandi!
