Our little group is having Christmas in July next week. I'd like to take each lady a gift. I was thinking a mini quilt inside of a canning jar. But I'm not sure what kind of mini quilt. Do you just put in fabric? OR do you actually cut up fabric so it's quilt?
Any suggestions greating appreciated. Thanks.
What a grand idea! I would say it would depend on how much work you want to put out but several ideas come to mind.
I did google this and thought someone had already done this but only found pictures of mini quilts.
However, after I got the list and a little blog hopping this one came up...
....and I thought it had potential as a quick do. Put in the pieces to make it or just put in the "books" and have them use background from their stash and include the URL ...
Another idea was to cut out a bunch of circles for yoyos, or squares for HST or if you have tons of time make HST ...a lot of designs can be made from them.

Do you have any way to cut acrylic? Get a sheet of acrylic at a home improvement store and cut it into squares. Mark the squares for a twister quilt. Add a bunch of squares and you have a quilt kit!
I don't know the size or how to mark the square but I think you could find that fairly easily. Didn't someone here post that info (of a link to it)?
How about a mini-coaster or mug rug and add a packet of cocoa, tea or coffee?
I've bought mini quilts in a brown paper bag from a LQS while on a shop hop. In the bag was enough uncut fabrics and a b/w printed pattern with the drawing on it and instructions. It made a tablemat about 24 x 20 ? maybe. That was a few years ago so I don't know why a jar wouldn't work... The instruction sheet was a 1/2 sheet of paper with writing/drawing on both sides of it.
City Sandie puts together little kits for her group, perhaps she could help you.
What a thoughtful idea you have.
I knew I could count on you guys here ... thanks for all the great ideas. Our party is Wed. so I need to get on the ball. Thanks again.
what about a fat quarter project. pick an easy pattern http://www.sewmamasew.com/tutorials.php and include a fat quarter. maybe include the paint chip needle holder:
This sounds like such a fun idea. I went looking for ideas and found this page of freebie ideas. Looks like they wouldn't take much fabric, so you could include that and maybe one of the patterns for inspiration! I especially thought the little wallet was cute!
