Mom told me this morning that she got a call on Friday, that went like this:

"Good morning, Mrs. Seaman...this is Roger with the phone company. I've been tasked to correct a problem with your phone billing. It seems that we over-charged you last year, and you have a substantial adjustment due you."

My mother asked..."What phone company are you with?"

The man hung up...

Obviously, he is not with any phone company...as he had no idea what carrier my mother uses...or he would have said so in the beginning.

So, just beware...there's another scam out there.

..... please allow me to jump on here and add another kind of warning - please remind your parents or other older folks, that they do not HAVE to answer questions on the phone just because someone asks them ,,,, there was my mom. recently widowed, telling some window sales guy that yes she needed new windows but Mr T had just died and she was alone and didn't have enough money in the SS check .. you get the picture .. MOM - I yelled, grabbed the phone and hung it up .. she thought I was rude, I thought she was about to be phone raped.
None of us is safe from the predators, and while some phones sales are legit, we just can't be too careful.

I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me.

Also, I got a phone call from some so called computer service tech at Microsoft about the software on my computer. When he asked what kind I was using I told him it was none of his flipping business and further I was on the do not call list and what business did he have calling me. He stammered and said what? When I told him I was going to report him and his company he hung up.

My neighbor fell for the phone call from "microsoft." She even gave him her credit card number. Then she had to spend the rest of the week closing her account and straighten out the mess.

Then there's a SS scam. All that is needed to change anything electronically with SSA is an SS#, name and address. The crooks open a debit card and change the place of your direct deposit. You don't know until it is too late. I live in a small senior community of 1100 homes and more than a dozen have been hit. It appears these people may use the same doctor, lab or hospital. You can go online to SSA and block electronic access to your records. Changes then can only be made in person. I did it.

I also get calls from Rachel- sometimes twice in one day. If you press the #3 to stop the calls from coming it does not work. Now I just let it ring, without answering it. Sue
