Just getting a headstart on the materials list for the Hexagon coasters jammie party for this coming Friday...they are fairly quick, once you have done a set or two and are prepared Smile
If you don't have the Hexagon templates, no need to fret, I will trace mine and add them here in a day or so as a PDF file for you to download and make your own.

Hexagon Coaster Materials List:
• 1- 5" strip of fabric cut the WOF (width of fabric) or if you prefer 2
different fabrics 2-5" x 22" strips of fabric
• 4 fussy cut hexagon shapes from a focus fabric (small enough print to fit
your smallest hexagon) floral and animal prints are good choices
• 1 -5" x 22 inch piece of batting/wadding
• 1- 4" x 22 inch piece of light weight double sided fusible web with paper backing/or fabric glue pen or stick (I prefer the fusible)
• Hexagon templates largest one measuring approximately 5" across the
widest point (2.5" sides) smallest one measuring approximately 4" across the
widest point (2" sides)
• Pencil or pen to mark with
• Matching thread
• Scissors, rotary cutter, ruler
• baking paper or pressing sheet/cloth
• seam ripper, pins

I usually make them 4 to a set because that's the number that fits across the width of my fabric, but have a set of 9 animals cut out and ready to sew of baby Aussie animals.

Karen hope you can make it Friday Smile I'll need someone to keep me on track...lol

Patty hope they have wifi and you can make it too!

Debbie, sorry you can't make it, but these really aren't that hard, and you should be able to come back to the thread and follow along.

I have made dozens of these for gifts, and as long as my sewing machine plays nicely, they are quick providing my fabrics are ironed and cut, and my fusible fabric is ready...I normally cut out my strips and trace my shapes and do the fusible one day for several sets, then sew them all the next day.

The set above is made from 2 fabrics...and the set below is made from 3 fabrics, as you can see, you really only see a border of one fabric around the focus fabric, but it does make a nice frame...it really just depends on your taste and stash...lol

My file I converted to PDF was too large to upload here...so I edited, and tried again

anyone wanna try printing these off for size and let me know how they go please?

They printed off fine for me, but I had to check print at 100% or they were smaller on the screen.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT cut on traced line...it will be your sewing line Smile tisme Wink Razz lol

Thanks ladies for jumping in for me and answering questions. The PJ parties usually start at 8:00pm Eastern time on Friday night, that is my 12:00pm Saturday noon. I could start earlier if you ladies prefer, just wanted everyone to have time to finish with dinner and prepare for the class. All the different time zones make it difficult, but we have FUN nontheless Smile

Glad the PDF is printing, and hoping to see you ladies Friday night!

Hi Deb Smile nice to see you jumping in and joining the FUN...the Friday night PJ parties are something that we do during the cooler months (well for y'all) It's summertime here in Australia...but we generally try to pop in and do a sew along,we each take turns volunteering hosting the classes and fishingwidow (Mary) does a good job of keeping a schedule for us. She has a PJ Party schedule discussion/thread here on the board. We muck around and are silly and get to know each other better...some ladies bring along chocolate and snacks to watch and some distract the teachers, and then we have our teachers pets...it's all bout good fun and learning something new...hope to see you Friday!

Trish

5" batting
4" inch piece of light weight double sided fusible
Hi Kentucky_Sunshine - would you please clarify what is needed. I understand the 5" wide piece of regular batting, but I'm not sure what the 4" piece should be (batting or interfacing?)

I've never made these before and am looking forward to your class....love the fabric in your samples!

Hi quiltcat, you only need one 5" piece of batting... I've never used interfacing on these as it used to stiffen or give body, but if you have it on hand I suppose you could use it, but ideally the 4" piece should be an iron on lightweight double side fusible web with a paper backing, such as steam a seam or heat and press ...but if you don't have it on hand I have used a fabric glue stick around the wrongside of my outside edges of the 4" hexagons to fuse in place...but I prefer fusible it is quicker and more secure I feel.

Simply you need something to adhere the back of the 4" hexagon onto the 5" hexagon Smile

looking forward to seeing you @ the party. these really do make nice handmade gifts, my sister loves hers.

1. Press all fabrics to be used, begin by pressing your strip of fabric/s right sides together on the ironing board, wrong side facing up, line up evenly and press gently, move them to your workspace to get ready to trace

Hiya Tammy & quiltcat Smile

If you are using two seperate fabrics, now is the time to choose which you want on the bottom and which you want on the top...the bottom stays on the bottom and the top stays on the top, you will only see about 1/2"of the top fabric all the way around, once you are finished.

2.Lay your large Hexagon template about 1/4" from one edge of your pressed fabrics and begin tracing your largest hexagon template, along the length of fabric leaving a scant 1/2" between hexagon shapes. You should be able to fit 4 .

Hi Sew Happy Smile

3. Once you have all large hexagon shapes traced on the wrong side of fabric, carefully sit aside and lay batting out and smooth it neatly, then gently place fabric strips back on top being careful they are still aligned, pin in place.
Once all 4 hexagon shapes have been pinned in place, take your scissors and cut them in between the traced shapes DO NOT cut on the traced lines, these will be your sewing lines. Set aside for a few minutes.

lay them right side down on a piece of baking paper which is placed on your ironing board, press them all to make sure they are nice and flat, place your double sided fusible on hexie shapes paper side facing you, bumpy side down and press according to fusible directions. Let cool then pull paper way from shapes and trim any excess adhesive from hexie shapes. Leave to cool on one end of ironing board.
