Grab some nice hot tea and join in our cozy little chat here Everyone is welcome! Bring your shuttle or needles
Want to learn to needle tatt? It's easy! For those interested in learning to needle tatt here are links to purchase the items to get you started, no fuss no muss (trust me!)
A Good thread to start out with is any light color 10 wt. crochet cotton. Light color so you can see your stitches - trust me, it is easier... i made the mistake of doing my first medallion in black and i almost went blind LOL! You can also use perle cotton. A few of us find that it slips off the needle nicely because of the sheen it has to it.
Found this how to needle tatting link. It shows exactly like it does in the book i suggested: Needle tatting how to.
mttlr... i think that looks more confusing then anything!!! i'll see if i can find the site that i found helpful and post that link here. i'm sure you can learn something from that site you posted, but i know there is an easier 'video/segment' out there that would be a lot easier to learn by
so whats all our tatters up to? i've not seen any new photos lately.. come on, share some goodies to keep me inspired!!

Ok, the two above are helpful. the biggest trick between needle tatting and shuttle tatting is the 'flip'. so be sure and watch that part carefully. ( you are using the shuttle thread to make the first half of the ds, but its actually the thread across your fingers that is becoming the ds) kind of hard to explain. BUT watching the video VEYR CLOSELY you will see how its done. they use different colored thread so show it a little better.
holler if you need more help... i'll do the best i can. i helped mn grandma via pms and the phone. as long as you know the needle tatting, getting the whole concept of the shuttle tatting down won't be quite as hard.
heck, i've been tatting lately without a shuttle at all, just using the thread. can't do as many things, but i can 'piddle' around with it!!

Thanks Lisa, I tried the video site before and couldn't get them to work. Now all of a sudden they are working for me. A little blurry but maybe I can make do. I think I need a new shuttle first. I have the metal with removeable bobbin and was told that wasn't a very good one to start with as a beginner. I should get the simple plastic type. I should have paid for attention to the brand, but maybe that doesn't matter. I will see if I can find out more. What about the length, I see you can get different sizes?
Nana Sews, your doily and cross bookmark are both just lovely. Thanks for sharing with us.
I've had no time to tatt lately So sad. I cannot wait until these pillowcases are done. I have barely touched them too. I have one for each mother done. At the rate i'm going, there is going to be an "I O U another pillowcase" in each gift box
.... and to think... ALLLLLL this gorgeous new thread i could be playing with, and i'm stuck in no-motivation-land. sheesh i su ck at life.

OK, I'm not a tatter YET! But I did try to crochet some itty bitties for crazy quilting. I must say its taking some time for my brain and hands to remember how to do this. And considering I like your tatted baskets better, I may try to learn on my own before the next retreat. Here's a pic of my feeble attempts.
Two baskets in the top row - one in varigated tans and one in natural. Flowers in varigated pink, heart in varigated lavenders, butterfly in pinks (without a body - have to finish her up) and a fan in tans.
