If you haven't noticed, I am a HUGE Quiltville fan. Love Bonnie's patterns and I have made many of them. I try to cut up my excess fabrics into her "scrap saver system" sizes so that I can always just grab fabric and start sewing!

With most of my swaps, I have offered different sizes and colors to be used with Bonnie's free patterns. For 2013, I would like to really gear some swaps for particular quilt patterns and hope you might join in and make the quilt with us.

My favorite is the Bricks and Stepping Stones--a real easy four-patch with a brick. You can make it in one color family, scrappy or in brights--perfect for the kiddies in your life!

But there are so many more! I have selected a few suggestions, but if you have a favorite on Bonnie's website, just post it.

Question:
Would you be interested in swapping fabric geared for making a Quiltville quilt in 2013?

I voted for the bricks pattern, but, I would have also picked the pioneer braid and the Strip Twist too!!
Strip Twist I have made and love it!! (am thinking of doing it again.....!!)

I currently have two of the B & SS quilts to finish and sew together the blocks on a shabby chic strip twist for my mother. I had a jelly roll for years and it worked well for it.

Well gee KC! I'm going to go have a look at her patterns again! And I shouldn't be! LOL

i am dedicating 2013 to scrap busting. I will go look at the patterns and vote.

That was hard to pick one. I liked them all.

Warm buns, me too! My goal is to make between 20-30 quilts for charity. Most are already in the works or planned out for certain charities.

I love the Cheddar Bow Ties and I have some solid cheddar I've been saving.

Oh so many quilts and so little time!! I reall need to finish my UFO's before starting a new project.

Yes, I have all of Bonnie's books and awaiting the Pieced Hexies (by another author she carries). I'm ALL about the scrappy!

I'll leave this up a couple more days, but what you will want to think about if we go with the Bricks and Stepping Stone pattern, do you want to go scrappy or bright? (Still needs sashing and borders!)

I might be interested. Will keep watching. I went to 2 classes and a trunk show a couple of months ago. She is so impressive. If anyone ever has the opportunity to go see her, do it! You will not be disappointed. Would love to have her energy.

I too am not swapping or joining swaps till I get my quilt tops quilted. I have worked very hard since I got back from Branson and I have seven quilts finished. If I keep it up I might can finish the other twelve between now and 2013.

Ok, I haven't voted, but wanted to throw a few thoughts out there. For any that don't know, KC is the swap queen and a super hostess . I have been in a number of her swaps over the years and she rocks! I'm in the combo swap that is due November 17th and excited to see what I'll get back from all of those lovely categories.

Since I couldn't help myself, I looked at all of those patterns listed on Quiltville to see if there was some sort of efficiency that could be found for the cutting . Here's what I found:

Bricks and Stepping Stones--pretty straightforward since KC has done brick swaps in the past and 2 1/2" squares too--she mentioned using the 2 1/2" squares and then squaring up the four patch units since the pattern calls for 2" squares

Strip Twist--uses 2 1/2" strips that are at least 18" long--could swap half WOF noodles for this

Cheddar Bow ties--people could do whatever background they want and swap the bow tie fabrics--this could be done a few ways--by swapping 6" squares, people could cut their own components and have enough for two bow ties from each 6" square with a little left over--another way would be the half WOF 2 1/2" strips again, they would yield enough for three bow ties from each strip

Hidden Spools--uses 2" x WOF strips

Pioneer Braid--uses 2 1/2" x 6" pieces--could be done from the 2 1/2" strips either half WOF or WOF

There are definitely some common numbers that could be swapped and then the recipients can come up with their own plan. I know that KC will come up with something fabulous, she always does !

Having said all of that, I will likely hold off on swapping for next year. My sewing room is in a MAJOR renovation right now and I'm getting all of my past swap fabrics organized in a useable way. Of course, there may be something that comes up that I can't resist, but I'm going to try and behave.

OMG count me in! I have all of her books and my Orca Bay is almost finished! The Strip Twist would use up so many pieces of fabrics in a quick fashion!

One question though....I rarely pre-wash my fabric, will this be a problem.

Texana, I'll jump in with a little help for you . KC does have a pre-washing requirement for her swaps. She is thorough with her guidelines and I'll post the link for the upcoming combo swap as an example:

Another important part of the requirements include sending the swap fabric in "sets". Each type is specified to that it is clear, but there are generally no mixed sets (one exception noted in the current swap). For example, when the swap indicates that there are 10 squares in a set, all of them need to be the same fabric and that fabric can not be repeated in another set. That is to make for a smooth swap and preserve KC's sanity. No willy nilly mixed sets, unless there is a specific exception.

Thanks for all the help, Lisa! Yes, the fabric does need to be washed. I'm allergic to the chemicals and all my fabric goes right into the washer before I touch it. Sorry!

i love this idea, but can not join swaps due to postage..

i just had a idea - if you do the stepping stones - maybe have those sending attach the 4patch to the bricks before mailing.. this would make it easier for receivers to assemble their quilts faster maybe..

Darn. . . my fabric is cut up and divided already for any of Bonnie's quilts thus not pre-washed.

Could I swap with someone who would not mind unwashed fabric? I do understand about the allergy to fabric though having other allergies myself, bummer.

If anyone would like to step up and hostess a unwashed swap, it would be workable!

If not, or if postage is holding you back from swapping with us, why not still do the pattern with us as inspiration to complete a Bonnie quilt!

Since we were just dunking our toes in the water to check the temp, we don't have to be set in stone. I do, however, like to offer a prize drawing for a $50 JA or Connecting Threads gift certificate for those who submit a finished quilt within our time frame. You don't have to swap to play!

I don't have time to host a swap but if anyone would like to just swap some fabric for any of these quilts ***knowing ahead of time that I do not pre-wash my fabrics ***** feel free to send me a DM.

But with that said I just might go through some of my fq's and pre-wash so I play along with everyone. You guys are enablers, look at me changing my way for the love of friendship and swapping !

But my first note on swapping unwashed pieces still goes .

Today is a busy day, so many football games on TV and the World Series game tonight. I have been working on sewing Spool blocks ala Bonnie way and have over 75 ready and about as many kitted LOL.

Hey KC1930, remember me?? . As you know I don't come to the boards much anymore but have a google alert set up to notify my via email of anything on the net that mentions Quiltville or Bonnie Hunter... You'd be surprised at how many Bonnie Hunter obituaries that come up! Thankfully none of them "our" Bonnie. But that's how I found out about this post from my google alert.

I love the idea of everyone working on a quiltville pattern together. I'll join in too but not for swapping just the sew along. Love the idea of strip twist

Ha, ha, I knew you would be coming out of the woodwork when I mentioned Bonnie! You don't have to swap, just sew along with us!

I just finished a Strip Twist queen sized quilt using batiks. It was fun to do - and looks great. Love the batiks for this pattern.

All the patterns look fun...and having been in some of your swaps I've got a good start on any of them!!

Yes, since I have made three of my last quilts with lime green, I need to take a break from that color. I think I might go with 30's fabrics. Need to work my way into the cabinet tomorrow to see what I can do. I have several large cuts of repro yellow, green and pink solids I can use for my constant. Are you doing it?

I love Bonnie's patterns- esp the strip pieced ones. Started a Scrappy Trips Around the World in June at her class in VT. Have about 14 blocks done. So quick and easy! I've been wanting to start one with brights or 30's, so I'm in!
